EXTREME neck POPPinG FOLLOWED BY neck/SHOULDER PAin: Woke up one morning in Oct and neck started making popping sounds (hundreds of times a day). I never crack my neck so it was unusual. Within a week, sharp pains started in my neck & shoulder (always on the right hand side). For the last 3 months, I have had these pops (300 times a day) and sharp quick pains (50-100 times/day). Chiropractic services was no help in Oct/Nov. Physical therapy excerises during all Dec did not help.
I was waking up this morning and stretching laying down and I felt and heard this loud crunching pop sound in my neck. Now my neck and back around my shoulder are really stiff and it hurts to turn my head in any direction but I can manage well enough to reach for things. It's a constant soreness/pain but hurts anytime I move. Is this something I need to go to the hospital for? Should I just relax and message it or would heat help?

Never have I seen some one in so much pain. He did have an x-ray and it showed deteriation in his neck, a form of arthritis, however no medication he takes seems to help the pain, or the extreme popping noise. Any thoughts?

Hi Thanks for writing to the forum! The pain in the shoulder and neck can originate either in the neck or in the shoulder. neck pathology has been ruled out more or less. However injury or inflammation of facet joints of the neck too can cause pain in the shoulder neck area. Similarly injury or inflammation of the shoulder joint, its synovial membrane or rotator cough too can cause a similar pain. Do consult an orthopedic specialist. Hope this helps. .
Hi all for the last few days I have neck and shoulder pain the shoulders hurt a little more and the neck pain feels more like bone pain then muscular, also i have upper back pain btwn the shoulder blades like if i take a deep breath i can feel a POPPinG like in my back when it pops it doesnt hurt awfully bad but it is noticeable.
My PT thinks my shoulder is impinged and that I have cubital tunnel in my elbow. I have neck pain, mostly on the sides. My neck cracks and creaks when I turn it. My shoulder hurts on the front by my armpit, and the back just below my right shoulder blade. My shoulder pops and cracks when I move it up, and I have difficulty pushing in or out with my arm. My shoulder often feels stiff, like I need to crack it, and I try not to. It hurts to lift my arm over my head, or to lift heavy things.
On top of that, my neck is also in pain at the base where my neck meets my shoulders, and my back also aches between my shoulders. I would describe the neck, back, shoulder and neck pain as nagging. I seem to be able to control the back pain with yoga, but exercise makes my shoulder pain worse. This is the strangest thing: When I inhale, I hear what I would describe as a crunching or popping noise. This occurs anywhere between 5-20 times a day.
My specialist advised that my neck pain is caused by arthritis (i am 28) brought on by years of sitting at a computer and the shoulder blade pain from a damaged ligament and has recommended exercise for my neck and a cortisone injection for my shoulder blade. Is there anyone that can offer an opinion about what it wrong, if the two problems are connected to one another and how to go about easing the pain? I have has Chiro, PT treatment and acupuncture in the past which has not really helped.
Rotator cuff signs and symptoms would consist of shoulder pain and also deltoid muscle pain in your upper arm, weakness during shoulder functions and also clicking in the shoulder with popping a prominent feature in some people. It occurs in a dominant arm and the pain may interfere with sleep and worse at night. There is problem with lifting of weights with the effected shoulder and decrease in ability to move the arm, especially out to the side.
perhaps your posture while you are working lead to neck trouble, then conductable pain go to shoulder ,compensative pain in back. Treat it ASAP,in case chronic problem come out Good luck.
Two weeks ago I woke up with the terrible pain in my left shoulder and lower neck. I work out a lot and have been under unusual stress. Bed I was sleeping in was terrible. I went to ER fearing a heart attack. All clear on that account. Doc told me I had a pinched nerve or severe muscle strain. Got hydrocodone and it helped some. Went on a 5 day cruise thinking it would be relaxing. Got a very vigorous massage - very bad decision.
He gave me the injection in a trigger point and miraculously the pain in my shoulder and neck disappeared for about 4 or 5 months. When it came back I thought I could get another injection, however, the second time it didn't help. I asked the doctor to MRI my shoulder since the relief of pain from the injection indicated that my shoulder might be the culprit of the neck pain. instead he sent me to a rheumatologist to check for fibromyalgia.

Every now and then, the headache is also accompanied by a low-volume high-pitch ringing in my left ear. and at times the pain will radiate into my left shoulder. But the pain also comes with severe dizziness and light-headedness. Dizziness to the point that I have fallen several times, and it makes everyday life very difficult.

I have pain between my shoulder blades and tightness and popping in my back and chest for 10 years now. I am 30 yrs old and have been to the physical therapist and chiropractor also for this problem. I noticed the problem started when I was around 20 years old when I first started working at a job where I was at a computer all day.
The pains are constantly present and are located between my spine and left shoulder blade, my left trapezoid, and my left chest between the breast bone and nipple. The pain increases when breathing deeply and also while lying down on my back. But the weirdest part of all of this is while lying on my back or on my left side, if I breathe in deeply I can hear & feel clicking or popping deep within the chest. This also occurs on the deep exhale.
Later in the summer, I was doing shrugs (dumb and useless, I know) and ended up straining my trap muscle. I could barely move my neck and it was decently painful. After 3 days, it felt good and I thought I was fine. Within a week or so, I went back to the gym again and started off with my normal routine. My routine consisted of a lot of cycles, and there was virtually little to no rest. I would usually do something like calves or (prior to my trap injury) or shrugs or abs in between.
