545944 tn?1227827002 L-arginine enhances NO synthesis, improves endothelial dilatation, decreases platelet aggregation, reverses endothelial dysfunction which may improve quality of life. http://www.jewishhospitalcincinnati.com/cholesterol/Research/prinzmetals_angina.html This may resolve why my family has history of early cardiac related death, he's doing PCR tests free of charge to study participants, but diagnosis must be established first. Thanks for being willing to help, I appreciate your opinion!
Avatar f tn Atherosclerosis (Atherosclerosis, AS) is a form of vascular endothelial cells (vascular endothelial cell, VEC) damage, vascular smooth muscle cells (vascular smooth muscle cell, VSMC) proliferation as the main pathological features of vascular disease.

712042 tn?1254569209 Wow! I'm amazed. I did get an article from CHEST-Volume 133,issue 3, March 2008 and it states exactly what you stated. It helps me to understand what micro-level processes are going on with me and that this is another area of research. Fourth night of CPAP, oximetery indicates no need for additional oxygen at this point and feeling rested this morning. This has changed my view on 'hot flashes'. Thank you so much. Joan.
990627 tn?1265230141 The key to the disease is endothelium dysfunction. Endothelial dysfunction is a physiological dysfunction of normal biochemical processes carried out by the endothelium, the cells that line the vessels.
Avatar m tn L-Arg supplement serves as a potential adjunctive therapy for severe malaria, because it improves NO bioavailability and reverses endothelial dysfunction in severe malaria patients. In this study, we investigated the effect of dietary L-Arg supplement on host immune responses during subsequent malaria infection using the Plasmodium yoelii 17XL - BALB/c mouse model.
Avatar m tn Both hypertension and diabetes mellitus alter endothelial cell structure and function. In large and medium size vessels and in the kidney, endothelial dysfunction leads to enhanced growth and vasoconstriction of vascular smooth muscle cells and mesangial cells, respectively. These changes in the cells of smooth muscle lineage play a key role in the development of both atherosclerosis and glomerulosclerosis.
Avatar f tn Besides the mechanism of stent expansion with vessel wall rupture, there are the superimposed permanent radial mechanical strain applied to arterial wall, the presence of an intravascular residual metallic foreign material, and ischemic phenomena induced by endothelial dysfunction. The stent struts cause focal deep vascular trauma, and it has been demonstrated that the initial inflammatory reaction is more accentuated at the points of greatest strain of the stent struts on the arterial wall.
Avatar f tn Sometimes chest pain can be associated with vessel spasms and go undected unless the event happens during a test. Also, there could be endothelial dysfunction...this interferes with the normal contractioning and dilating of the vessels. Coronary Artery Spasm This type of chest pain is caused by ischemia (oxygen starvation) of the cardiac muscle. Coronary spasm is a sudden and temporary narrowing or tightening of a small part of the coronary artery, which supplies blood to the heart.
Avatar f tn Hi, All beta blockers are known to result in some degree of erectile dysfunction in males & decreased libido in females. However, nebivolol is one beta blocker which has got vasodilatory properties & hence can be one of the alternatives of carvedilol. However, you can continue taking lisinopril. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
712042 tn?1254569209 I understand the catechoalamine reaction and that was the missing science piece I needed to understand and manage this microvascular endothelial dysfunction. To see my medical journey to this diagnosis read my short journal here at 'joanincarolina'. Best wishes to ALL the dedicated medical and research people out there working on this medical problem. Thanks again.
Avatar f tn My mother currently taking nebivolol 5mg in morning and amlodipine/perindopril 5/8mg in evening for hypertension. Her blood pressure has recently been improved and taking both pills cause low blood pressure, she is also suffering from cough as a side effect from perindopril. I am considering to shift her to nebivolol only but 5 mg once a day is not controlling the blood pressure well. My question is can nebivolol be taken twice a day in 2.
Avatar f tn It can be detected by the Endothelial dysfunction test, wherein dye is injected into the artery that causes the small vessels in the heart to open and then the blood flow through those vessels is measured. Although this test is invasive, it's a good way to detect small vessel disease. It is unlikely to cause problems related to the valves. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I try being on a diet but know i am taking Crestor 20mg for triglicerides, and nebivolol 5mg for my bp. I have had some cases of high heart beat and doctors said its nothing to worry about. I had onew 12 years ago, 1one 8 years ago and one 2 yeears ago. They come and go within 10 minutes. Its something with my electrical paths of my heart but doctors said there is no need to worry for now.My docotr said that high bp is due to my sensitive character, and tryglicerides is gentics.
Avatar f tn Cardiologist suspects POTS and discharged me months ago, but my older symptoms make me worry that this might be a worsening of some underlying condition like endothelial or microvascular dysfunction. Never discussed these with cardiologist. Possible, or might my symptoms really be benign? As I type this, my left arm and shoulder are aching and I feel hot and nauseous.
Avatar n tn Migraines are also common in those of us with this mutation as a function of endothelial dysfunction. Get your blood tested to see if you are heterozygous or homozygous. (There are numerous mutations but the most common/studied are A1298C and C677T. ) Homozygous is much more serious but heterozygous can be serious as well depending on comorbid mutations. See websites by Dr Ben Lynch or Dr Amy Yasko or Theheartfixer for more info and help. Ben Lynch was a great place to start for me.
Avatar f tn It has been associated with mild coronary artery disease and endothelial dysfunction. The fact that you are essentially chemically postmenopausal probably played a role in this, however, hormone supplementation carries its own risks and may have caused other problems had you been on it after the hysterectomy. Norvasc is very good in treating this.
Avatar f tn other serious health conditions associated with this mutation include strokes, dementia, mood disorders, neurological disorders, endothelial dysfunction, inflammatory diseases like fibromyalgia, etcetera, sleep apnea and a generally early onset of these disease states and others. Activated folic acid (methyl-folate), NOT folic acid, is used by the body to repair itself and DNA/RNA. Without it we slowly (heterozygous) or much more quickly (homozygous mutants) fall prey to a host of diseases.
Avatar n tn Residual or recoarctation contributes to hypertension, but abnormalities of the aortic wall, peripheral conduit arteries and resistance vessels, present even after successful repair, may also be important. We have previously demonstrated depressed endothelial and smooth muscle function in the precoarctation vascular bed, in contrast to normal function in the femoral and posterior tibial arteries late after successful repair.
Avatar m tn thank you for the input, but that does not answer my question.
Avatar m tn hi, just some thoughts about two things seem to stand out: "symptoms started suddenly when I was 21" Did you have a bad virus cold at that time? Did you move to a new home or work place? Did you travel anyplace where you might have gotten an exotic parasite or infection? "consistently elevated eosinophils" What if whatever is provoking the eosinophilia is also creating endothelial dysfunction, and that's causing poor oxygen transport to tissue?
