941766 tn?1257796601 Can anyone advise of good vitamins to take for anxiety and depression. I am starting to feel better and want to control by natural vitamins and exercise. Also has anyone tried 5-htp or any of the natural stuff? I can't take anti-depressants. I do take 1.5 mgs of Kolopin at bedtime which has finally started to help.

535882 tn?1396576685 She gives a pretty thorough description of all the natural supplements for anxiety and depression, or not all but the ones she knows about. I managed health food stores for many years, and studied a lot about this subject, but the thing is, everyone's different. What works for one won't necessarily work for another. The other thing with natural products is that herbs and amino acids are generally used in combination, since no one is all that strong.
Avatar f tn Sam-E is NOT for people with BP. I like to use naturals. This time I have been on a combination of naturals. There is a drawback. One, when you take 5htp...triptophan you are constantly sleepy. I was put on a small amount and it did NOT cut the depression. So I got up to 5,000 mg of 5htp and other combination of naturals. Now when taking prescription meds for your condition, you MUST tell your psych about everything you take.
560272 tn?1311350293 ) (these are also vitamins and dosages recommended BY doctors that help with anxiety and depression, for example out of the anxiety/phobia workbook) I honestly would be far more scared of antidepressents and benzos than vitamins. And I don't do herbs, I'm not brave enough to try them.
1136046 tn?1260577435 well to start with the cure for depression is in ones own hands but he/she has to depends on therapies/medicines when it goes beyond his/her control.the best way to come out of depression is to think positive and if ur relegious try to implement its tenets in ur daily life uwill definetly find some change.well other ways are to just close ur eyes and to take 10 long deep breaths inhale as quickly as possible and exhaling as slowly as possible.
Avatar n tn There are a number of vitamins, herbs, supplements, etc., that claim to help with depression. 5HTP, St. John's Wort, B6, etc. There is a lot of conflicting info out there and everyone's different. I've noted a few supplements I have for moods have 5HTP, so maybe there is some value in it. I have a nutritionist/Dr. whom treats me for hypothyroid, and the accompanying or maybe, co-existing, depression. He put me on something called NeuroReplete and claimed that it should help.
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried any vitamins for anxiety or panic attacks? Such as Niacin, Valerian vitamin b3, b12 or anything? I was reading up on some things.
Avatar f tn Has your doctor ruled out other causes for the sweating? Both these medications carry "sweating" as a side effect. Is it your GP prescribing this or a psychiatrist? Psychiatrists are most knowlegeable when it comes to these types of medications, and what is best for you. I would ask your doctor "why" he feels Bupropion is a better choice and go from there. It may be that the incidents reported of sweating with the Bupropion is lower than the Citolopram.
Avatar f tn I have even heard that SAM-E can help. B vitamins are essential for proper brain function as well. If there is hyperactivity involved, magnesium is very relaxing and may help. I hope that you continue to try the no-medication route. Being placed on prescription stimulants for ADHD at 6 years old and being on them for years has left me with disabling, treatment-resistant depression.
Avatar f tn I am considering using it as a more natural way of dealing with my depression. I am currenty on prescription anti-depressants but am sick of the side effects. Can anyone give me some feedback please.
Avatar f tn St. John's Wort is supposed to be a "natural" cure for depression, but I have absolutely NO idea how this would affect a pregnancy. You may want to check with your doctor to see if there are any natural herbs/vitamins that you can take safely.
Avatar f tn So this is day 4 for me without any painkillers. Just wanted to know if depression is a major withdraw effect. I like keep crying for no reason. I'm a wreck. I'm on paxil but I don't think enough. When I called for a higher dose I almost started crying again!! Anyone have this? How long will it last?
Avatar f tn m looking for any type of foods or drinks that help combat depression and any natural ways to combat depression as well. What vitamins, minerals, supplements help combat and help fight depression? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Magnesium is more associated with anxiety than depression; there are a host of natural remedies for anxiety and depression, which can be studied further in book by Hyla Cass called Natural Highs; she's a professor at UCLA who uses natural remedies in her psychiatric practice.
Avatar f tn t apply to natural medicine at all. There are conditions for which natural remedies work best and those for which prescription works best, and people for whom one or the other works best due to their individual reactions. If you know which companies to buy from you can avoid the tainted products, which are usually sold by discounters and on-line direct marketers. Many manufacturers of natural remedies, particularly vitamins, follow pharmaceutical standards for manufacture.
457745 tn?1212925510 Anxiety and depression can go hand in hand. They certainly did for me. My doc told me that antidepressant medication works to cure anxiety too, but there is never any guarantee for a particular individual that a med will do the job. You are wise to seek help immediately. You may be in depression, or heading for one, or just need help pulling through this tough time.
Avatar f tn Be aware that supplementing medication is not easy for the average layperson to do safely -- medications have a lot of contraindications against taking some of the best "natural" remedies for depression. I put natural in quotes. because some natural remedies aren't all that natural, they're still pharmaceutical products, but because they do use substances found in nature they can't be patented.
Avatar f tn I was on a natural hi for 2 days and i knew it would end i just didnt know how bad and now it sucks but whatever i know i can make it just need ti get outa this place in my life
Avatar f tn I am not sure there is medication specifically for depression that can be bought over the counter. I have tried St John's Wort and 5HTP, and think they are the only ones apart from supplements that are supposed to help. Also tried Kalm, and Quiet Days. None of them effective for me really.
1042487 tn?1275279899 Most of the B vitamins have been recognized as coenzymes, and they all appear to be essential in facilitating the metabolic processes that are essential for life. These vitamins are essential for the breakdown of carbohydrates into glucose, which provides us energy, the breakdown of fats and proteins, which aids the normal functioning of the nervous system, muscle tone in the stomach and intestinal tract, and healthy skin, hair, and eyes.
Avatar f tn They can be helpful for many things, but I strongly believe exercise should be a natural process, not one pushed by supplements. That becomes unhealthy too much of the time as you move to more and more unnatural supplements that can work but aren't good for you because you aren't satisfied with the slow results that natural processes produce.
