Avatar f tn Since that time, I have taken many different kinds of OTC herbal remedies to stop the hot flashes, night sweats, moodiness, headaches and especially the weight gain. Nothing seems to help. I have gained 40 lbs since 2001 and I honestly can say I do not eat more than I did then, nor am I a junk food addict. I am cautious of what I eat...but nothing helps my problem. I am 48 years old so I was 40 when I had my hysterectomy....too young to be suffering from these horrible conditions.
Avatar n tn I think hot flushes should be given to men! ;-P I suffered greatly with hot flushes but, am going through some kind of imbalance somewhere, somehow and am seeking out help from a gynecologist for it. I've also had the weight gain...right around the mid-section. Grrrrrr. I think that most of us will say that the hot flushes and the weight gain are pretty annoying to say the least. Estrogen can cause weight gain but, can help with the hot flushes some.
Avatar f tn I am not sure I would jump straight to hormones. There are many natural products on the market that control things like hot flashes and night sweats. There is so much controversy about using HRT or not. Not sure how old you are or if cancer risk is an issue, but having lived through breast cancer I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Natural products don't cause weight gain.
Avatar f tn so can anybody tell me if it is common to gain weight after hysterectomy or is that just depending on the medicine you're given for hormones

Avatar f tn Your labs are hyper, but many of us who are hyper gain weight. Thryoid diseases affect our metabolism, which can be a cause of a lot of weight issues, higher and lower. This is not that unusual at all. Can you confirm a sonogram/ultrasound diagnosis?
Avatar f tn Higher doses of estrogen in birth control pills is known to cause weight gain in women due to fluid retention. Get your estrogen levels checked. For weight loss, apart from diet control, indulge in physical exercise daily for which you can even join a gym. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar m tn Also to mention that a weight gain of so much weight also can be a cause of a heightening of the hot flushes. Fat stores estrogen and it's believed that estrogen is partially to blame for the hot flushes. There often isn't enough progesterone in the body to offset the extra estrogen and very often, doctors will make the mistake of giving estrogen when the real problem is a lack of progestrone.
Avatar n tn I have always heard that weight gain is inevitable after a hysterectomy, but does that also apply if you are having one AFTER menopause ? Will bio identical hormones help with this ?
Avatar f tn I say this because it typically is the Lack of Estrogen that will cause weight gain and not the abundance. On the other hand, since you are also taking progesterone, you may have been out of balance between the two hormones. My other thought is that you may be the type of person who does really well on progesterone without added Estrogen, although the more I research recent studies on this, those people are few and far between.
Avatar f tn High levels of estrogen cause unexplained weight gain and feeling fatigued or lethargic. Low thyroid hormone is a consideration since there is family history of thyroid disease but high estrogen is a more likely cause in my opinion. A good article on high estrogen is "High Estrogen Overload Symptoms. Dangers Every Woman Should Be Aware Of" from the Healthy You Naturally website. An excerpt....

Avatar n tn Zeligs, MD As we age, many tissues in our bodies become chronically inflamed, resulting in an increased risk of weight gain, diabetes, and cancer. By aiding healthy hormone metabolism and assisting the body to recognize and eliminate stressed cells, we can reduce generalized inflammation and slow the progress of aging-related disorders.
Avatar n tn I have had a terrible time losing weight, I cry easily, I have hot flashes, and insomnia. I cannot take HRT due to my cancer and family history of breast cancer. Are there any natural products I can use to help any of these symptoms? Will soy milk be of any help or am I putting myself at risk of breast cancer. This discussion is related to Soy and ovarian cancer.
Avatar f tn d suggest that if your weight is lower than healthy then weight gain might stable out your emotions. However, I understand if this is not possible as weight gain can be hard for metabolic reasons etc. Again, I think seeing a doctor would be the best opinion, emotions can change for a whole host of reasons they're not always hormone related so it's best to be sure before making any changes. Hope you feel better soon!
1638247 tn?1300467050 I've always been heavier than everyone else, even though I ate less and exercised more. But from the age of eight onward, I began gaining a lot of weight for no reason. No matter how little I eat or rigorously I work out, my body won't respond to diet or exercise. At one point, I was living on 200 cals a day while strength training and arobics morning, noon, and night.
Avatar f tn Does everyone gain weight with Hashimotos and hypothyroid. It is so depressing. I am thinking on going on WW or Nutrisystem, but will I lose weight if my thyroid is still screwed up? I have low motility too when it comes to digestion too. Took the sitz test and an average person can poop out the beads in 2 days and it took 7 for me. What have other done? I am frustrated!
Avatar n tn Last year I saw a naturopathic holistic doctor to find relief from PMS symptoms and general fatigue and irritability, and acne. He prescribed me a natural progesterone cream to be used between days 14-28 of my cycle. It has made a huge difference in my energy levels, mood, skin clarity and elasticity, has even helped me lose some weight. I did not know this before, but it is common for women with hypothyroidism to also have a progesterone deficiency.
