Avatar f tn My doc mentioned estrogen too, if my hot flashes were too much but I declined. The hot flashes actually went away for about 6 - 8 months and I thought maybe it was a change of climate and also I did some online reading and found that some women say some foods, like spicy foods might trigger hot flashes so I limited my diet. They're back now though and I'm not sure why except I am back to eating more variety in foods, even spicy foods.
Avatar n tn I have had a terrible time losing weight, I cry easily, I have hot flashes, and insomnia. I cannot take HRT due to my cancer and family history of breast cancer. Are there any natural products I can use to help any of these symptoms? Will soy milk be of any help or am I putting myself at risk of breast cancer. This discussion is related to Soy and ovarian cancer.
Avatar f tn This helps manage your glucose which helps manage your hormones. Ginseng is something else people use for hot flashes. For vaginal dryness, they do make some products you can buy or just vitamin E or the all purpose coconut oil. Sleep is tricky with menopause. I suffer insomnia. I practice good sleep hygiene and work in extra sleep periods. A nap never hurt anyone. Exercise also helps with irritability. As does sleep. Learning to relax, breath, meditate, do yoga all help keep you calm.
Avatar f tn Black cohosh. Used in Europe for more than 40 years, this herb may help moderate hot flashes, mood swings and insomnia, and has proven to be effective in several studies. For relief of menopausal symptoms, especially hot flashes, begin taking 20 mg twice a day for six weeks, then try increasing the dose to 40 mg twice per day if hot flashes do not decrease in severity or intensity.
Avatar n tn ve suffered from extreme hot flashes to the point where I was on a snowing mountain and had to strip off to a singlet. It happens daily, Is this normal- or a side affect from my period?
Avatar f tn Should I get treated for the estrogen or should they level out once my thyroid is fixed? I am taking natural supplements for my adrenals and might want to try HC but I have heard not so good stories about it. Are there natural adrenal meds or how should I go abouts treating it? I finally feel abit better but I don't want to move cause moving equals hot flashes/sweating.
Avatar n tn No, you don't. But giving up all dairy products is just smart. All dairy cows produce a lot of estrogen just to produce milk. Forget the fact that they are given de-wormers, antibiotics, growth hormones and such. And animal estrogen isn't a good thing. Then there comes the debate about phytoestrogens in plants. Soy for instance .... so many studies and so many different answers! Keep everything in moderation and you will do well. I actually take a drug called neurontin for hot flashes.
Avatar f tn I have been on estrogen replacement since my surgery in 1998. I still have moderate-severe hot flashes and they seem to be getting more intense with age. I switched from oral Premarin which covered me pretty well but I didn't want to be taking pills the rest of my life. Since then I have tried a variety of patches that are really not very effective on a regular basis and very expensive. At my age, what do you recommend. Is Premarin dangerous (risk of DVT).
Avatar n tn 7 months ago I started having hot flashes which have become almost unbearable now. One of the hot flashes lasted in excess of 3 hours and left me completely drained of energy. For the past 5 months I have been on a tablet Angeliq and although the hot flashes are less, they still occur at the most inconvenient times. The doctor recently advised me to add a Premarin tablet (the green one, small dose) to the Angeliq and I now have one or two hot flashes every day.
Avatar n tn I am a breast cancer survivor for 8 years now; I have severe hot flashes; every 45 minutes day and night; it has totally affected my quality of life...and ability to sleep; I recently found out I could take this drug. I am on 200 mg nightly; so far I have been waking up and had insomnia; will this get better and go away; I have only taken it for two nights; also how long does it take before one might notice their hot flashes have decrease? My dr. said I might have to go up to 400 mg.
Avatar m tn I am heavy but I really don’t want to correct the low testosterone everything else is fine. I just want relief for hot flashes-Yes I get them in the cold weather. My wife told me to try estrogen pills or creams. How do you get your doctor or NP to prescribe estrogen. Over the counter creams & pill are two expensive. I do have part d insurance. Avatar f tn 60 yr old dying from hot flashes!Coped with heart attack, stent, lupus, fibro and surgical hysterectomy,POS.All HRTs,etc compounding creams,Premarin cause angina.SSRIs work but severe side effects.Have tried everything for 3years.Homeopathy hasn't helped. My life is a wreck from this, can anyone help?
Avatar n tn Hi Grandma 1964, I’m surprised that the estrogen has not helped you with the hot flashes after all this time. It seems that helping hot flashes is the one thing that almost everyone agrees estrogen does do well. What particular medication are you taking? I took Premarin for four months last year, and while it did help with the flashes and night sweats, it did little to help with my anxiety, stress and mood swings. If anything, it seemed to make things worse.
1112615 tn?1258650318 Thanks for the advice but the Phytoestrogen vitamins that I take do have black kosh in them but obviously are not working with me or maybe I need more of it. I am not sure. Or I need more of the progesterone cream. I guess I just need to find me a biodentical doctor because I just decided to go with these combos because my mother uses these combonations any they work for her but like they say, everyone is different.
279234 tn?1363105249 Hi, I'm 37 and I've had a whole list of complications when it came to female issues. I had a partial hysterectomy in 2006 due to a prolapsed uterus. In 2008, I develop a hemorrhagic cyst on my left ovary. It grew to the size of a grape fruit and relocated to where my uterus use to be, attached itself to my abdominal wall, bladder, and bowel.
Avatar f tn Thank you for writing back to me. I would give anything to stop these night sweats. They are destroying my sleep, and I can barely function. Could you just tell me the names of the herbs, please. I'm post menopausal, but have been on an estrogen patch for years. The flashes were controlled until this summer. You're right, it was the same time I was diagnosed with the B6 toxicity. I'm also on 100mg of Wellbrutin which I 've heard can also cause sweats.
Avatar f tn 075mcg generic levothyroxine for the past 6 yrs. I am also past menopause but continue to have hot flashes. they subside for a while but about every 3 months or so come back w/ a vengeance. i am taking various menopausal vitamins and supplelments, but those have stopped working and again the flashes are back. i am now beginning to wonder if the hot flashes are related to the thyroid and not menopause. Would taking a brand name rather than a generic drug help?
Avatar n tn I had no hot flashes with any of my IUI treatments. I think that I might have during my first IVF but maybe didn't link it. But this last IVF before and after have been heck on me. I have gained weight and have had to do all but a striptease at a couple of social functions. My face would get red and my hair would get ringing wet. I could tell that it was the hormones. So embarrassing when you are trying to schmooze for business.
Avatar m tn three months ago I had Pnemonia and even with using bi -est, I am having hot flashes and night sweats which has never happened to me on a constant basis. My husband thinks the pnemunia/fever rearranged my hormones and it will take awhile for them to settle down. I am 57 and was pretty stable on the bi-est. has this ever happened to anyone else?? Thx!
Avatar n tn I also read another article that said that the only symptoms that are proven to be linked to menopause are hot flashes and vaginal dryness. Some real natural remedies for these are mint (in a tea, bath, or body lotion) and some people have said that eating soy products, leafy greens, and and whole grains while cutting back on red meat and simple carbs (white bread and pasta, white rice) has worked well. And it can't hurt to eat better anyway....
Avatar f tn I had a hysterectomy in 2001. I was on estrogen for about 5 years. I stopped taking them in fear of cancer. Since that time, I have taken many different kinds of OTC herbal remedies to stop the hot flashes, night sweats, moodiness, headaches and especially the weight gain. Nothing seems to help. I have gained 40 lbs since 2001 and I honestly can say I do not eat more than I did then, nor am I a junk food addict. I am cautious of what I eat...but nothing helps my problem.
Avatar n tn t want to do any hormone therapy. I just wanted something natural that work for hot flashes. She told me Black Cohosh or Estroven. I'm looking for them tomorrow. First thing is make sure you've just had your thyroid tested and it's normal because symptoms of peri-menopause can be the same for thyroid. Also make sure you've had a yearly physical so they know everything is ok.
Avatar f tn I have suffered with hot flashes for 20 years. They are not as extreme as they once were..but I still have them. I wake up in the night (middle of winter, and I only sleep with one blanket on) and have to throw the covers off...AND.. I search the other side of the bed out just for the cold sheets...to cool down. In the last couple of years..... I get cold and search out the spare blanket that I have started keeping on the bed. So I wake up sweating, throw off the covers.......cool down...
Avatar f tn I have been using the estrogen patch (Vivelle dot .1) since my surgery and have had no problems with hot flashes. However, for the past 8 months I having been getting hot flashes every now and then. Is this normal? When I mentioned it to my doctor, he just said I was already taking the highest dose the patch comes in and didn't like the idea of me using the oral kind. I'm just wondering why this would start after so many years and if anyone else has experienced this.
Avatar f tn I was prepared for the mood swings, hot flashes, and all the other weird stuff that came with it. But not for this long. And now depression, no sex drive, major hot flashes, and bad insomnia. Nobody can answer me on how much longer. I think I ran my only ova into the ground. What should I do?
Avatar f tn After saliva test i was told i have low adrelas and cortisol, DHNA and progesteron level in comparison to estrogen. I was taking natural progesteron for 1 month but only 50 mg bc i was too drowsy with full pull. But I fill more hot flashes and adrenal fatigue is worse. I think one of the reason is adrenal cream i used with GABA but probably also progesterone. Just in case I stopped using it. How long it should be used? Is there is something else to help with estrogen dominance?
