Avatar n tn There may be an initial increase in hair growth or reduction in hair loss experienced by few women when they start taking birth control pills or estrogen replacement pills. Since you have been taking it continuously estrogen levels will stabilize and the natural hair growth cycle might be restored. Long term use of hormonal contraceptives should be discouraged. You may try discontinuing the pill when you are trying to get pregnant. Give your hair extra nourishment and take a balanced diet.
Avatar m tn I was having usual symptoms of hypothyroidism - fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, hair loss, etc. Have been on Levothyroxine for several months now and have seen improvements in all symptoms except hair loss. I'm also on Plavix (due to a TIA), which I understand can also cause hair loss. I started on it shortly before beginning to exhibit thyroid symptons. I've had breast cancer, so can't take estrogen.
Avatar f tn You may even want to consider a short style until at least 6 months postpartum, when estrogen levels return to normal and hair loss is minimized.
Avatar f tn http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/symptoms/hair_loss/treatments.htm I believe I've also heard of people using Vitamin A for hair loss.
Avatar f tn Your estrogen levels are way too high. Total estrogen normal reference range: Day 1 - 10: 61 - 394pg/mL, Day 11–20: 122–437 pg/mL; Day 21–30: 156–350 pg/mL. High estrogen leads to excessive production of thyroid binding globulin (TBG). Although there are enough thyroid hormones in the blood, they are not taken up by the body's cells as they are inactivated by TBG. In other words, thyroid labs are in range but you have signs of low thyroid function.
Avatar f tn But then multivitamins contain very little iron.Iron is in two areas one in blood other is stored.
Avatar m tn t convert to estrogen, even if one took Tamoxifen a long with it for a short cycle (3-4 weeks) would it shut the bodies natural production of testosterone down? Would you even need Tamoxifen if it didn't convert to estrogen? Increased testosterone can also lead to liver damage, hair loss and increased acne due to oily skin, as well as an enlarged prostate. Can I have an honest scientific answer besides the typical "drugs are bad mmmkay." ?
Avatar f tn I know that the testosterone could be the culpret with hair loss, but the suddenness of the hair loss makes me question whether it is the cause. I have an appointment in a few weeks with my GYN to discuss my October lab work. I am in my late 50's and I don't think that many women in their 50's and 60's know how much better testosterone can make you feel - energy and sense of well being. I hope that I don't have to give it up.
Avatar n tn m ready, is there an alternative pill to birth control that will combat the hair loss. It is the yasmin birth control that is stopping my hair from falling out and helped regrow hair. So I was wondering if there is medication that contains whichever ingredients are contained in birth control that has aided in my hair regrowth that I could take so that I can go off the pill when I'm ready to get pregnant and not have my hair fall out again.
Avatar m tn s muscle, skin, breast and fat), which is used to convert androgens (hormones produced by the adrenal glands) into estrogen. In the absence of estrogen, tumors dependent on this hormone for growth will shrink. For more information regarding this drug and side effects you can check out the website chemocare.com. Avatar n tn I've been on synthroid for about a year loss and have a lot of hair loss. My doc says that my thyroid levels are too high and that when I bring them down it will stop. But could it be from the synthroid? I was previously on the levoxyl until it got recalled. Any suggestions on how to stop my hair loss and what it can be from?
Avatar n tn I also have low thyroid so take meds for that as well. There are different methods of delivery for the estrogen and testosterone: pills, creams, gels, patches and pellets. I get the pellets. They are implanted under the skin on my hip about every 3-5 months. I also recommend seeing a doctor that specializes in bioidentical hormones and menopause. Good luck!
Avatar f tn So I've posted before about my hair feeling like hay since I been pregnant and my doc said it's normal it can go either way. Well I'm 100% natural and usually dnt have problems with finding good hair products. I've decided to cut it and start over but with wen products. I know it says it works on all types of hair and races but I'm a little skeptical about how it will work on natural hair. Has anyone used this before and seen great results!?
Avatar n tn Hi I am 48 and experiencing all the aforementioned - hair loss (for which I've been using Rogaine), crepy skin, wrinkles, dry skin, sagging everything, varicose and bulging veins, and basically the loss of my looks. And I am so tired. I take a host of supplements, and use a red laser about 3 times a week. I have had no exercise in the last few months though and alot of stress. I weigh 115 at 5'3. Any advice other than cry and add exercise back in as well as quit my profession lol?
Avatar f tn If you insist on the all-natural route, you could try wild yam cream for estrogen, but I am not familiar enough with the topic to tell you what women do to replace progesterone.
1112541 tn?1286311213 Charliegirl: So glad to hear that your doctor is open to alternative remedies. There are so many that are very closed-minded, and refuse to even consider alternatives to HRT or other prescription meds. Please keep us updated! SassyLassie: You are so right about taking progestins to "oppose" any estrogens that we are taking - especially for those of us who haven't had a hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn t take the sublingual, bioidentical progesterone he prescribed nor should I continue to eat protein bars and other sources of soy protein which provide a natural bioidentical estrogen. She said there is an increased cancer risk associated with both progesterone and estrogen supplementation. Since I have high risk HPV (cancer causing) I should not take these supplements. Does anybody know anything about the increased cancer risk associated with bioidentical hormone enhancement???
Avatar n tn Thank you for posting this information. It's been about a year and a half that I have been talking about this stuff too - on a personal level. How it worked for me was - when I was left untreated - not feeling well - etc etc.... My body was "borrowing" energy and other things from other parts of the endocrine hormonal system to keep me going. Unfortunately when that is happening - it hard to get anyone to look at that until you basically completely drained out.
215752 tn?1278004771 I want to say that IVF meds CAN cause hair loss for certain. My doctor confirmed it with me and said while it is not as common they can have that side effect. I should know because on Menopur, Femara and other drugs my hair has massively massively fallen out. It has been SO distressing and upsetting, beyond words. Simply horrible to have this problem on top of infertility. I don't think I can even continue this side effects are so bad.
Avatar f tn I want to share my stratedgy for hair loss with this my second go around. Maybe some of you women will benefit. There is no avoiding the loss of hair and it's the least of all the side effects, but psychologically it can be important, especially for those of us who work with public. I started wearing a wig a week before I started treatment. I thought better to start while looking healthy. Lots of positive comments at work, and one less thing to deal with in the morning.
Avatar n tn I continued the supplement for a couple more days after noticing, but discontinued use in hopes that my hair loss would stop. I have been off of the supplement for about 6 days now, and my hair is still falling out. I'm taking other vitamins, including Biotin, B complex, fish oil, iron, zinc, vitamin D, and magnesium, in hopes of encouraging hair growth, but my hair continues to fall out and it's becoming very concerning.
