Avatar m tn This will identify what she is allergic to, so she can avoid those substances, and if certain allergies are identified that are amendable to immunotherapy, that may help her allergy and asthma symptoms. With specific regard to your hair dye allergy concerns: Hair dye allergy often produces a skin irritation at the hairline, forehead, neck, or swelling about the eyes and face, none of which you mentioned in your post.
Avatar n tn It is clear that yours is a very unique experience and that any attempts to diagnose and treat it will have to be conducted at an institution actively engaged in research on urticaria and related diseases. One such institution is National Jewish Health®, formerly National Jewish Medical and Research Center, in Denver, Colorado. You might want to visit the National Jewish Health website for additional information at http://www.nationaljewish.org/.
Avatar n tn How do allergy doctors determine an allergy from asthma? My pediatrician wants me to take my son for allergy testing, but his only symptom is coughing. He has no other symptoms, has had a chest and sinus X-ray, which were normal. He has had antibiotics and steroids. The cough has not gone away. Not sure why he thinks it is an allergy... Please advise. Thanks!
Avatar m tn Were the itching accompanied by hives (urticaria) would add allergy to the equation. The abstract, below, addresses this possibility. It would be most important that you be observed by a physician skilled in the diagnosis of cardio-pulmonary disease and the diagnosis of systemic diseases that might cause your symptons. The observations would be most helpful when any of your symptoms are present spontaneously or in response to exercise.
Avatar f tn My 15 year old son gets hives after every shower that last about 30 minutes.... This is a question for any and all of you on this site( looks like at least 10+ of you with similar condition).. How many of you are getting a scratchy throat or trouble swallowing or short of breath, or any other internal/systemic symptom after you take a shower. He's had this aquagenic urticaria for about 8 months now and I am just worried it is going to progress to anaphylaxis like internal/ symptoms.
Avatar f tn My son has allergys and just recently was diagonosed with asthma brought on especially from exertion. He plays soccer and doesnt have the painful itching then, but after a shower?? I'm no so sure it's UC then. Anyone else have this? What helps he is really in pain.
Avatar n tn Allergy testing starts with a thorough history to uncover what things may be causing your allergy symptoms. These are called allergens. When it is not clear what allergens are causing your symptoms blood testing is often the next step. This will help to focus the list of possible allergens. With blood testing it is possible to have false positives. So blood testing is more likely to show that you are allergic to something that you may not really react to.

Avatar f tn I have a 3 1/2 year old son, since he was about 7months we have struggled with asthma and allergy issues. As a new and first time mother I could not get any one (including 6 peditricians) to listen to me until he was a year old and had to hospitalized for croup in June. Apparently this is out of the norm for our area. Even at that point no one was concerned or felt that we should do any type of preventitive medications.
Avatar f tn Went thru the 201 allergy reaction tests and am allergic to nothing. After a year finally tracked the hives down. My asthma inhaler Combivent was causing the hives. I have no problem with albuterol; it was the ipratropium bromide in Combivent causing the hives. I now stay away from any inhaler (like Spiriva) containing similar bromide components. Also check meds you take for sulphur. I can tell a new med contains sulphur when my hands itch like crazy from hives.
Avatar m tn I'm in mid 20's and a boy. Please advice if you are a medical doctor. I have cold + cough (producing white color (phlegm or mucus or whatever)) since past 3 days. I did not smoke / drink. I felt warm in mouth (temperature) yesterday but did not have fever as such measured from outside. I'm not finding difficult to breath but inhalation is producing sounds since past 2-3 days.
Avatar n tn The cause of the Urticaria could also be related to the cause of your cough and, treatment for the Urticaria might even provide cough relief. Another simple method to determine if a med is causing your problems is to withhold that drug or use an unrelated substitute. Don’t do this on your own but only after consultation with your doctor.
Avatar f tn This forum is not a substitute for a medical examination, but you may have asthma. Asthma causes your airways to spasm causing breathing problems and could be triggered by cold weather. You may also consider getting tested for allergies, as the trigger for your breathing problems.
Avatar n tn Even with the use of appropriate medication, appropriately administered, a person can have a bad attack, poorly responsive to the meds. Your description strongly suggests that your asthma is out of control and that you should seek medical assistance without delay. Given your multiple allergies, it is possible that your immune system has been overwhelmed by unusually high concentrations of one or more of these allergens.
Avatar m tn Another thought would be your dust and pet allergy. Do you have allergy proof bedding covers on your matress, boxsprings and pillows. Those will go a long way to help reduce morning allergy symptoms. Also, you should keep any pets out of your bedroom. Lastly, showering before bed will wash away any allergens you have picked up during the day.
Avatar m tn I am a 20 year old college student. I have had asthma since I was 6 years old. Every time I have gone home for more then 3-4 days I have reaction to something either my cat or my parents cigarette smoking. As I return to college I have a constant cough for a week or so. The first break thats all it was, was a cough with light constant asthma. The second break I completely lost my voice for a week, coughed a lot and had constant asthma.
Avatar n tn His lungs are clear so they have ruled out asthma. Now they are referring him to an allergy doctor. How can it be an allergy when he does not have any allergy symptoms? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn An adult allergy or pulmonary consultation would be appropriate. Also such specialists sometimes identify themselves as asthmatologists. Some academic institutions such as National Jewish Health in Denver, Colorado, the University of Pittsburgh Hospitals in Pennsylvania and Duke University in Durham, North Carolina offer highly specialized, expert asthma consultation. Your description of the episodes between October and May does suggest the diagnosis of seasonal asthma.
Avatar f tn I had cat hair allergy and it is much reduced now
Avatar n tn An examination and testing by an Allergy/Asthma specialist is certainly suggested, and if there are positive allergy results, specific therapy directed at addressing those allergies, may be beneficial. Asthma is a chronic disease so you would be better off getting on a regimen under the direction of a specialist to control it, rather than only using what is termed "rescue" treatments.
Avatar n tn So for some background, on Monday, I layed out to get some sun and accidently fell asleep, and ended up being outside for about 2 hours. I got sunburnt on my chest and stomach, and nowhere else. I normally tan, and my skin doesn't peel when I get burnt. That night, I was fine. On Tuesday, the next night, I went to sleep and the next morning I had what I think were hives on my back and sides.
