1393709 tn?1280178870 I've been having a plugged up nose for about a month now.. It's so bad that I had to finally went to the store and bought myself a nasal congestion spray. It is called "Afrin". My nose is plugged the whole day through out the night, it's literly plugged 24/7 and I have to breath through my mouth only. The Afrin helps my nose clear out 10 to 12 hours and then after that it's plugged again and then I have to spray the afrin up my nostril again.
Avatar n tn He prescribed Nasonex which helps with the congestion and helped ween me off of the dependency on Afrin. The Nasonex is not addictive or carry the strong side effects that Afrin does. Aside from doing the obvious and reading (AND following) the label warnings, I would recommend consulting your doctor before using ANY nasal decongestant. As for me...I've thrown away every bottle of Afrin in the house and will never use it again.
Avatar f tn A few months ago I started using Nasonex every day because of allergies. Shortly after my heart started acting up, I was getting short bursts of tachycardia lasting no more than 30 seconds, but disconcerting never the less. That hadn't happened to me for several years, since my medications were switched. My GP told me that Nasonex wouldn't do that but I stopped using it anyway. I had an appt with my EP today and I asked about it.
579469 tn?1311705550 kick my nose spray addiction. Yes. I am addicted to Afrin nose spray. I have been addicted for probably 5 years or more. Problem is I have BAD seasonal allergies. From March to June I am a complete mess. But, July through Feb I'm ok, but can't put the spray down. I stock up on Afrin like it's the end of the world!! Out of all my addictions, this one has to be the most....embarrassing. Anyway, my question is.....have any of you on this board been addicted to nose spray?
Avatar m tn Have you seen an allergist? You may need allergy shots to gain control of this. Also, nasal saline sprays have a very small effect. Try the NeilMed sinus rinse bottle instead. The greater volume of water makes it much more effective. Exactly what nasal sprays have you tried? Please list by category - steroid or antihistamine. Have you tried atrovent (dries up the sinuses so it may not be the best thing for thick drainage) and NasalCrom?
Avatar f tn m running a sleep deficit that precludes my being an effective mom/wife/employee I snort some Afrin and keel over from exhaustion. I need help to figure this out, I'm 44, female, seasonal allergies in the past decade but nothing major or prior. I have the name of an allergist is that the route to go or should I revisit my GP first?
Avatar m tn I took a Xanax and a Nucynta 3 hours before this appointment. I also take Nasonex, Allegra, Ranitidine, Liver Support by 1 Body and also rarely Afrin for Spring allergies. I just finished a 5 day Prednisone pack for inflamed muscles in neck from degenerative discs Just recently diagnosed with Hep C. I am now left out on a limb and being treated like I am a liar and a drug addict. What would give me a false positive for morphine and a false negative for xanax?
Avatar n tn He put me on Nasonex, a steroid nasal spray, to reduce the inflammation. I also hear my heartbeat in my ear at times, and he's hoping that a month on Nasonex will stop that. If not, he'll do a CT scan and other work to see what's going on. Here's my question: Are any of you using something like Nasonex or Flonase? I do have a headache behind my eyes and feel tired a lot, but I had that before too.
1402935 tn?1281958699 I am always congested it seems and have trouble breathing through my nose. Nasonex helps some. I was prescribed symbocort because when i get real bad I can't breath through my mouth either. I was told it may be allergies. Was given Zyrtec. My sinus mucus swelled up so bad i could hardly breath and my face turned bright red. I did not take it again after that. I tried just general Benadryl and had the same reaction. Red face hard to breath through the nose.
Avatar f tn nasonex, afrin, mucinex-d, claritin, allegra, zyrtec, flonase, etc. Another ENT thought it was acid reflux. I tried: prilosec for 14 days, nexium for 3 days (I had too many side effects from nexium so I discontinued it). I had no symptoms of acid reflux so I felt there was no point to take these meds, but I tried anyway with no success. I got a CT scan and they found there was a cyst in my left maxillary sinus and mucus thickening in the ethmoid on the same side.
218451 tn?1274994552 Yep, the Afrin caused the most damage. When you get use to Afrin, your nose is open and breathing is a snap, but without it, you cant breath through your nose. Feels like someone inflated a balloon inside your head. Like a bad sinus pressure. The coke was only very very rarely. Maybe once or twice a year in small amounts. The oc's never gave me any problem's surprisingly enough. Wow, I sure am glad those scientists did something right.
29837 tn?1414534648 Recently I went to an eye, ear, nose specialist who prescribed Nasonex. Anyone have any success with it? I say that because I tried it now for two days with no effect. Do I need to try it longer? Anyone?
Avatar f tn I was on nasonex spray prn or I take 1 puff each nose at times for few years= 4 years. Now I noticed hair thinning and loss. I have stopped the nasonex now. Will my hair grow back as usual? I am so worried. Iam not taking any other medication. But on hair supplements- zinc, vitamin E and multivitamin. Started my hair massage!
1236313 tn?1295726268 I have tried Nasonex, Flonase, etc. I started allergy shots about 8 months ago. The only relief I get is from Afrin, and that doesn't even last the 12 hours. (I don't want to hear about how you shouldn't take it for more than 3 days either!) My family doctor had put me on the Z-pack and Biaxin and it works for a SHORT period of time, if at all, and then I go back to the congestion. I have had a CAT scan that shows some inflammation, but does show that I am draining.
612551 tn?1450022175 t help much, not ow Astepro (not a steroid) which is a little more help, but none are as good as the over the counter Afrin (or similar) which can not be used for long periods. This congestion led me to recognize I have some trouble waking up with a suffocation sensession. .
Avatar f tn I am 6 weeks pregnant and have a severly stuffy nose. I have been researching afrin during pregnancy and there's so much conflicting information. Most sites say it's ok to use here and there others say not at all. Has anyone used afrin in early pregnancy? Was your baby born healthy?
531684 tn?1216745984 t even get to the end of the complaints on the internet about nose bleeds from nasonex! Well, my nose bleeds started with nasonex, the first time around was in the '90's, and no one seemed to know then that the nose bleeds were a side effect, although I kept having them and realized then that they occurred after using nasonex. Later, around 2007, I was told by a doctor, that it wouldn't be a bad idea to try it again, that it was actually a good drug.
Avatar m tn I used Afrin a couple days ago. One day after using it, I realized that I could not taste my food although my nose was clear. I figured it was just temporary and would return. Now, two days later, as I was just cleaning some old moldy food out of the refridgerator, I realized that I didn't smell a thing. Nothing. This has never happened to me previously. And I, too, found this forum by searching on Afrin and "olafactory loss". I am very sure it is related to the Afrin.
Avatar f tn I think it actually says on the afrin bottle not to use it more than 3 days in a row. It becomes addicting.
Avatar f tn It probably is from that... I suggest getting off the Afrin for at least two weeks. Afrin is very addictive and your systems have probably become totally reliant. You mentioned dryness so you know a little moisture is needed. You will probably get a lot until your system gets over the Afrin. Do not use any other nasal spray. If your nose starts running excessively move to an OTC non-drowsy tablet for nasal congestion and take only one tablet a day.
Avatar f tn I have used Afrin for nasal congestion. And to my ignorance, I was actually used it for several months when you were supposed to only take it for 3 days. After stopping for several months, severe anxiety attacks started to occur. I'm thinking now it might've been a rebound effect of Afrin. But I've read somewhere that Afrin is one of OTC medications you should not be taking(as a warning). Might be best to talk to your doctor first and foremost before using it.
Avatar f tn What kind of nasal spray? Is it a prescription like Nasacort or Flonase or the OTC stuff like Afrin? If it's Afrin that is not supposed to be used all the time, it's really bad. If your nose is bleeding, that could be an infection or maybe from the spray. I'm not sure about the blood pressure. I think you should try to wean off the Afrin. You are probably having what's called *rebound* congestion. Read the label on it. It tells you not to use for more than 3 days.
Avatar n tn Thank you ladies! It was Afrin. I didn't know I was pregnant because during pregnancy I avoid all medication. Thank you !
Avatar n tn Hello, I have been taking Nasonex for 5 months now and starting 10 days ago, I started experiencing weird sensation in the left area of my chest, it would only happen 3 to 6 times a day and it would feel like someone just tapped the someone of my chest with a finger or two, after 3 or 4 days experiencing this, I just completly stopped using Nasonex and have been off Nasonex for 5 days and 11 hours now.
