Nasonex and post nasal drip

Common Questions and Answers about Nasonex and post nasal drip

nasonex

Just taking treatment will not help. You need to find the cause of post nasal drip. This could be due to allergy. If allergy is the cause you would need to take tests to rule this out. The other possibility is that you have a foreign body in nose or a deviated nasal septum. This makes a person prone to repeated infections and allergy like symptoms. Another possibility is laryngopharyngeal reflux. This throws the stomach content into the throat without heartburn.
but you ladies have helped me about before here i had a real bad sinus infection back in january...and ever since i have had post nasal drip...so bad at times i cant even swallow (theres so much stuff in my throat) I cant cough it up...and when i do happen to get some out..its clear, but with small green chunks (sorry, gross but no other way to describe it) its driving me nuts..and i keep thinking maybe it will just go away. I ve been on Nasonex for about a month now..and its not helping..
I have been suffering for four weeks now with post nasal congestion and post nasal drip. I first went to the doctors and was diagnosed with sinus infection and was given antibiotics for 5 days. It got better but gave me a UTI and stomach cramps then when antibiotics were done the congestion and drip was back with the UTI. I was then given 10 days of antibiotics for sinus infection and another antibiotic for UTI. The UTI got better but the congestion stayed.
I went to my doctor when experiencing thick post nasal drip, dizziness, puffy eye and she diagnosed me with a sinus infection and put me on augmenten for 10 days. The mucus is now clear but the thick clear sticky post nasal drip is still chronic. I'm constantly snorting and spitting up mucus. I went to the ENT and he prescribed Nasonex and Mucinex. But it did not help. He then did a scope and found an abudnance of thick sticky mucus and he suctioned some of it out.
I had an operation to remove a cyst and some polyp's about 5 years ago. This never stopped the post nasal drip, and i have since had ct scans done and it reveals that i once again have polyps. I seem to be getting different story's from every specialist i see, with the most recent one saying that the polyps wouldn't be causing you trouble and there is nothing he can do.
and rulide but finsihed but now he prescirbed me sudafed to treat it first day of taking it could the nausea be from my post nasal drip i really want to study and eat normaly and become a normal person can symtoms this bad run for soo long ?
post nasal drip. I am seeing a doctor for this problem and I am taking different nasal medication for it : sometimes I use nasonex, other times atrovent and sometimes just saline. I dont have a severe case of post nasal drip but when I have it I just feel like the food get stuck in my throat. Doctor tells me this is just a feeling, nothing dangerous. My question is : do I have more chances of choking (on food or on mucus) because I have this problem of post nasal?
I have this problem with gagging, what seems to be caused by post nasal drip. When i wake up i tend to have a dry mucus build up in the post nasal area of my throat. The thing is when i gagg, trying to free the mucus from my throat, nothing seems to loosen up, which makes me have this feeling of vomiting. These symptoms are 10 fold when i am in any social situation, or have to tend to any type of stressfull situation.
This all also coincided with quitting smoking (I'm 28 - smoked on and off for about 9 years.) I was having terrible post-nasal drip and a constant feeling of junk in the back of my throat. The cough is bad on some days and then I'll have days where I barely cough at all.
I have the constant Post Nasal Drip and throat clearing as a result of it. This has bothered me for about eighteen years and just keeps getting worse. Being a stand up comedian, this really hampers my profession. On December 8,2005 I was doing a show in Virgina and saw a local doctor there. She gave me Tussionex and within the hour of the first dosage the drainage stopped. The next week was wonderful as I was even able to cough up stuff for the first time in a long time.
The current idea (from my ENT) is that i have post nasal drip caused by allergies which it may well be! I have also had acid reflux which was corrected with operation (Nissen Fundoplication)and no longer a problem but phlegm still very bad! I use sinus wash, nasal steroid spray (nasonex) and antihistamine (loratadine) every day (for last 6-12 mths) but they have no effect and i feel like they never will, if anything my phlegm is getting worse.
i have post nasal drip and sinus infections to the point that i have to pour salt water in my nose once a week. i'm sure someone out there can relate. i use to get sore throats, now it just feel like it's a blockage in my throat, i can swallow and eat but you can feel that it is not going down like it should. has anyone experienced this?? i have sinus problems so badthat a lot of time i feel as though i am getting dizzy or in another zone. does anyone experience this??
Hello, All these symptoms are leading to the possibility of chronic post nasal drip. Post-nasal drip is mucus accumulation in the back of the nose and throat leading to, or giving the sensation of, mucus dripping downward from the back of the nose. Post-nasal drip can be caused by excessive or thick secretions, or impairment in the normal clearance of mucus from the nose and throat.
I have been having such bad congestion, especially at night and post nasal drip. ENT said looks like polyp tissue starting to re-grow. GREAT! So I took the 6 day prednisone pack which was great, could smell again for 7 days, along with Leviquin for 14 days. As soon as I was off the prednisone the congestion came back. Now the DR wants me back on Leviquin for another 10 days. Not real happy about this. I also use Flonase everyday and saline nasal spray 5 times a day.
I've never suffered from allergies, and this condition (which an ENT says is aggravated, but not solely caused, by a deviated septum) isn't accompanied by any classic symptoms of rhinitis--runny nose, mucous, etc. In fact, my nasal passages tend to be rather dry, except for low grade post-nasal drip, usually on the side that feels most blocked. My spouse often reports that I begin tossing and turning around 2 AM, about 3 hours after I retire. By 3 or 4, I'm waking up every 15 min.
Ok, so, 4 weeks ago I had acute bronchitis. It DID eventually go away (for the MOST part) on it's own within 2-2.5 weeks; however, after the constant, initially hacking, but eventually crazy productive cough went away .... almost immediately as that slowed down I developed a stuffy/runny nose. Well, WITH that runny nose, NEW "cough" symptoms arose. The "cough" had definitely changed and was not the same "bronchitis cough" from before.
Hi, I have a post-nasal drip and didn't really know what was causing it. If you don't know what that is, basically my nose is constantly running backwards and down my throat meaning my throat is always congested causing a need to cough or to clear it, but basically it never gets clear. I went to the doctors and he referred me to a specialist who tried to put a camera up my nose and down the back of my throat without any sort of numbing medication.
However, on another page of this forum, people have suggested it could be nasal polyps(blocking mucous flow), post nasal drip, atrophic rhinitis(not really sure what it is except that it's rare), or those things that come from your tonsils. Others posted that they have used several nasal washes and sprays, some had surgery, and nothing seems to help. All I know is, this smell drives me crazy, and nothing tastes normal when I have it. Can somebody give me some insight PLEASE! Thank you.
Sinus infections can cause stuffiness of the nose with nasal blockage, which can make breathing through the nose difficult. It can also cause post nasal drip and lead to an irritation in the throat. But shortness of breath or heavier breathing in the chest could be due to lower respiratory infections like pneumonia and bronchitis. So, please seek medical attention at the earliest. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
I am 4 months post treatment and I now have post nasal drip. I wake up coughing with a tickle in my throat. I used the neti post during treatment. But after treatment I didn't use it. Thanks Jim I think I will go back to using the neti pot. I have tried Sudafed, claritan, Afrin nasal spray, benedryl and nothing seems to help. If the neti pot doesn't work, I will go to my doctor and see if I can get a nasal spray to help. If you find something that works, please let me know.
I first got it last fall, went to my doctor who thought it might have something to do with mold but was otherwise pretty much clueless. I was given nasal spray and some other meds which didn't help. It went away after a month and was fine throughout the rest of the winter, spring and summer, but as of 9/15/07 have it again. I feel great otherwise, no other symptoms. I did get over a cold a few weeks ago so not sure if there related.
I have this weird smell, sort of burning, amonia, sensation. I also have a post nasal drip which requires mucinix to get it out of my throat. The doctor put me on Omnaris and I am taking penecillin tablets. I have had this problem for about eight weeks. Sometimes are worse than others. I have never had a problem like this before ever. I had a serious cold at the beginning of the summer which lasted a long time. I hope it goes away. any suggestions?
You're not getting a cold every other day for the last 6 months. You're having perennial allergic rhinitis and post-nasal drip. Hong Kong has plenty of dust, my parents are from there, I've visited from time to time. The allergy medicines can help. Especially nasal steroids like rhinocort, nasonex, flonase, beconase, etc. Rinsing with nasal saline beforehand helps even more. Allergy shots from an allergist can help too Good luck Sheeba!
Hi, I have post-nasal drip from allergies. My sinuses are really irratated and I am positive it is not an infection. I take Astelin, Nasonex, Zyrtec, and Singulair everyday. I am allergic to pseudoephedrin, aspirin, amoxicillan and erythromycin. I now have build up in my chest and drainage affecting my throat and voice. Besides expertorant and nasal wash, which I have been doing are there any other suggestions.
- I say it like that because I have had the scratch test and injections and did not show to have any seasonal allergies. However, with my sore throat I have a lot of post nasal drip (possible cause of sore throat?). I take a combo of ibuphrophen, tylenol, and musinex to manage the pain. About 7 years ago I had reoccurring tonsillitis, saw an ENT and he put me on a strong antibiotic for 3 weeks.
I definitely have post nasal drip and currently take nasonex. A ct scan oy sinuses revealed that I have a devisted septum. I sometimes wake up with a tight feeling in my chest. Could this be asthma maybe? Why would I get fluid in my right ear? Thanks for your attention to this matter.
Throbbing pain in my nose (like pulse or heatbeat), constant headache, darck circles under eyes and severe post nasal drip. I have been on many type of antibiotics, use a saline rinse 2-3 times a day, take Nasonex, Astepro, Xyzal, Singulair and headache medicine. Some days are better than other but most days are constant pain, numbness, throbbing.
Usually one gets more follow up post op pit - and has replacements for hydrocortisone (cortisol) and thyroid - which may account for why you feel old.Growth hormone is usually the first hormone to go but that is usually a more subtle downturn in most people. Do you have copies of your testing? If not, get a copy. In range is one thing - but where you should be is another.
Other common causes of chronic cough include asthma, allergic rhinitis, sinus problems (for example sinus infection),post nasal drip and esophageal reflux of stomach contents and these also should be investigated and ruled out. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
