narcolepsy

729135 tn?1247495402 Sometimes, it can be difficult to accurately diagnosis a condition when all the pieces of the puzzle do not fit quite right and symptoms overlap. Over time, diagnoses sometimes change when additional evidence or symptoms appear. Regarding genetic testing for narcolepsy, positive test results indicate a susceptibility to narcolepsy but do not definatively diagnose narcolepsy. Positive genetic tests results are used to support a clinical diagnosis of narcolepsy.
Avatar n tn See a sleep center. Recurrent "Bells Palsy," memory problems, insomnia symptoms, chronic pain, and twitchy feelings in muscles are actually very characteristic of narcolepsy with cataplexy, and it can be exacerbated by the hormone shifts that happen with menstrual cycles. In fact, often times, people don't have "Bells Palsy," but cataplexy. Viruses and some vaccines (namely the H1N1) can actually precipitate this, but it can happen seemingly in random fashion, too.
Avatar f tn I am assuming you had an overnight sleep test along with an MSLT nap test to receive this narcolepsy diagnosis. Did you have any other sleep disorders show up? Do you have episodes of cataplexy? My sleep doctor is one who (in general) doesn't entertain a diagnosis of narcolepsy until any other sleep disorders are therapeutically treated, as long term sleep disorders can mimic narcolepsy in some respects.
Avatar f tn It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. Avatar f tn I have Narcolepsy - It took 2 yrs of severe symptoms to be diagnosed which looking back I had these symptoms my whole life. There is hope after diagnosis, but a proper one and a good doc will get you the help you need to reduce there severity of your symptoms.
Avatar f tn are you able to wake up and remember your dreams. (Again these symptoms like MS symptoms are sporadic, they come and go over time.) Several times in the past 6 years I have woken up and been crying because the dream was just so real. (So less than 10 times in 6 years. You can see that it may be very sporadic.) Auditory: I have noticed (and last week was very bad) that when I lay down to sleep I hear other sounds.

Avatar f tn I am diagnosis with narcolepsy and have had symptoms for 5 years now. I have been taking 500 mg. of nuvigil for over 2 years. Plus, 60 mg of adderall a day. My symptoms have slowed down a little, but I have to take 2 naps a day and not drive anywhere. I have sleep studies twice a year and it seems to get worse each time. Its very aggravating to me! It seems like something would help. I see a team of specialists at Vanderbilt, but I need something else, but what? Anyone have any suggestions?
Avatar n tn Any facial nerve problems or bell’s palsy can cause a person to have weakness in the arm. Other symptoms are facial weakness and droop to one side, trouble tasting foods and dry eyes. Physical therapy along with neuromuscular retraining helps a person with Bell ’s palsy.Strokes, diabetic nerve damage, multiple sclerosis, endocrine disorder like Addison’s disease, ALS, etc are other serious causes of arm weakness. Guilaain barre syndrome also needs to be excluded.
Avatar n tn Short hand version of the story. I had periods that were leaving me anemic every month so in 2011 with diagnosis of a genetic disorder I didn't want to give to a child anyway my Ob/gyn agreed to do a Nova Sure ablation. No tubal ligation. I have never had a period since. Met the love of my life two years ago, we became sexually active, he uses condoms because I have a high rate of women who have stroked out with birth control in my family.
Avatar m tn Some doctors hesitate to give you a diagnosis of narcolepsy because your driver's license may be revoked if the condition is severe enough.
Avatar f tn I guess I don’t want to take the trouble to do sleep tests and meet with specialists and all that if my symptoms aren’t what narcoleptic people have experienced. I also don’t have any sleep paralysis or cataplexy symptoms that I know are common with narcoleptics too. I’m wanting opinions from those experienced with narcolepsy and am hoping you can give me valuable help to determine if I should do anything about these issues. Thank you very much in advance!

Avatar f tn If diagnosed with narcolepsy, and regulated and controlled with Meds can I still do whatever job? I want to be an under water welder, and I'm worried that once I get the diagnosis I won't be able to do the job I really want to do.

Avatar n tn i saw a show yesterday about narcolepsy and they mentioned a vaccination was given to a 13 year old girl and 2 hours later she was experiencing cataplexly (a paralyzing catatonic state that is a symptom of narcolepsy) but they did not say which vaccination.
1745492 tn?1320198340 My husband was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea and narcolepsy about 5 years ago and the narcolepsy is under control with 200 mg of Provigil. He had hypnogogic hallucinations, body jerks when falling sleep, imaginary conversations with no one, talked in his sleep, fell asleep driving, talking and even in activities you'd never imagine a male would fall asleep. He appears to always have had it since about puberty but it got worse as his sleep apnea did.
Avatar f tn I have Narcolepsy- My vitamin B 12 level is 235- should it be higher for my condition?
Avatar f tn Hi, I am a 28 yr old female, I had an ablation for AVNRT about 5 years ago and continue to have symptoms. My heart rate is usually around 140 and my blood pressure is usually 150/100. I take cardizem and bystolic but have not had any relief. My holter showed that I have episodes of a junctional rhythm that produce symptoms. I was hospitalized for 5 days not too long ago and my heart rate was sinus tach. at about 140-150.
Avatar m tn I went undiagnosed for about 15 years, until I finally saw a sleep specialist and she nailed the diagnosis right away. The vast majority of doctors have absolutely no idea what it is or what it looks like, and no routine lab tests, MRI, CT scan, x-ray or anything of that nature will detect it. 75% of people with narcolepsy never get diagnosed in their lifetime. It doesn't look the way you think it looks. Common misdiagnoses are depression, epilepsy, and migraines.
