namenda

20003388 tn?1515166040 I'm just curious if anyone has been on Namenda and could tell me how long the initial brain fog lasted for you? I just started Namenda yesterday, 5 mg a day for 1 week then 10 mg a day in divided doses. I have memory issues and severe cognitive impairment. I was put on Namenda by a neurologist after a thorough examination. I expect the brain fog from starting Namenda up but am just trying to get a time frame for when I could expect the initial brain fog to wear off. Thanks everyone.
Avatar n tn my husband just started on Namenda, starter doses, however, while I was at work today, he took 3 of the pills(5mg), should I be concerned? do I just have him continue tomorrow with the correct one pill in the morning? doesn''t seem to have any side effects.

Avatar f tn I, like many of you, take handfuls of drugs just to live thru the day and suffer side effects from the drugs is just as debilitating as the pain. My doctor allowed me to try Namenda, which is a alzheimer drug that works by calming overactive neurons in the brain. There has been studies to see if it helped chronic pain and most of them showed it did not. I wanted to try it for myself and she allowed me too. My shrink also thought it was a good idea to try.
Avatar f tn Now she is pretty confused, asking me over and over what day it is, and having great difficulty with normal day to day tasks. Her neurologist put her on Namenda without much of a result. Her only other medications are Warfrin, she had a stroke a few years ago, a hole behind her heart. And high blood pressrure medication. Sorry I do not have the name or dosage availabe to me. I notice when she sleeps she talks and moans in her sleep almost constantly.
585414 tn?1288941302 Yes I am somewhat familiar with that. For example Namenda which is used to treat dementia is in clinical study as a mood stabilizer and to treat tardive dyskinesia. However as those medications specifically effect those receptors by mitigating their activity they work in an opposite manner to glycine and the NMDA receptor modulates.

Avatar n tn Hi Margypops, Axona is a brand-new prescription therapy launched in March 2009 for the treatment of mild-moderate Alzheimer's disease. As Alzheimer's is marked by a decrease in glucose in the brain (the primary source of food for the brain), Axona acts by providing/metabolizing glucose in the body to act as an alternate source of food for the brain.

Avatar f tn She did a mini neuro/cognitive eval and said this may be something more than MS. Now she has prescribed Namenda XR for me. I googled it and it says it's for Alzheimers. I do have family that have/had dementia/Alzheimers. Does anyone else with MS take this??? Or do you know anyone with MS that takes it? From what I read, it makes symptoms worse with people who have MS. Sad face...

767538 tn?1276575320 It actually worked the 1st day. During the infusions they put me on namenda which seemed to counteract the benefits of the ketamine and it made me sick. Its now 5 days after my infusions and Im starting to some pain so I am again trying the Namenda.
Avatar n tn He is delusional, on disability and is taking Zyprexa, Amantadine, Namenda, Cymbalta and excelon patch. Still, he seems to worsen. He now has symptoms of Parkinsons with balance issues. He is 55 years old - much to young to be this dibilitated. He was tremendously active, a college graduate who owned his own business. I just cannot accept that after beating all the odds and surviving we are now dealing with this. Do you have any suggestions?

Avatar n tn Hi! Have you tried any of the anti-epileptics? Usually the first one that is tried is Topamax. That helped me for awhile. The only side effects that I had from it were some numbness and tingling in my hands and feet. They say that is pretty normal. I also tried Lamictal, Keppra, and Depakote. The drug that I have found the most relief from is actually an Alzheimer's drug. It is called Namenda. There has been some research that has shown that it helps to prevent migraine.
Avatar m tn Hey everyone, I have tried many different ocd drug therapies, but have yet to try a glutamate modulating therapy such as Memantine (Namenda), Riluzole (Rilutek), N-acetyl cysteine, or amantadine. If anyone has information on or experience with any of the above medications, would you please share that with me? I am desperate. Thanks so much.
Avatar n tn A year and a half ago the doctor said he had the first stages of dementia. It seems to be getting worse. He is taking Namenda. He also has a heart condition and a lung condition. Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with congenital idiopathic nystagmus due to my prominent vestibulo-cochlear reflex as a kid. A few years ago I was having pain in my legs and trouble sleeping and thought that my nystagmus was due to an underlying condition like fibromyalgia and told my doctor about my concern and a muscle biopsy revealed that I did have fibromyalgia. The pain is not that bad and my insomia is gone.
Avatar m tn I have a very difficult migraine to treat, so none of the usual daily meds worked for me, but Botox worked wonders. Also an off-label med called Namenda at 25% of the usual dose gave me significant relief. So don't give up. There are other treatments as well. But start out with the Amitriptlylene. Good luck. Migraines can be terrible.
