I, like many of you, take handfuls of drugs just to live thru the day and suffer side effects from the drugs is just as debilitating as the pain. My doctor allowed me to try Namenda, which is a alzheimer drug that works by calming overactive neurons in the brain. There has been studies to see if it helped chronic pain and most of them showed it did not. I wanted to try it for myself and she allowed me too. My shrink also thought it was a good idea to try.

I'm just curious if anyone has been on Namenda and could tell me how long the initial brain fog lasted for you? I just started Namenda yesterday, 5 mg a day for 1 week then 10 mg a day in divided doses. I have memory issues and severe cognitive impairment. I was put on Namenda by a neurologist after a thorough examination. I expect the brain fog from starting Namenda up but am just trying to get a time frame for when I could expect the initial brain fog to wear off. Thanks everyone.

my husband just started on Namenda, starter doses, however, while I was at work today, he took 3 of the pills(5mg), should I be concerned? do I just have him continue tomorrow with the correct one pill in the morning? doesn''t seem to have any side effects.

Hi! Have you tried any of the anti-epileptics? Usually the first one that is tried is Topamax. That helped me for awhile. The only side effects that I had from it were some numbness and tingling in my hands and feet. They say that is pretty normal. I also tried Lamictal, Keppra, and Depakote. The drug that I have found the most relief from is actually an Alzheimer's drug. It is called Namenda. There has been some research that has shown that it helps to prevent migraine.

Supposedly if you got TD, you should not take antipsychotics, unless absolutely necessary... but then, as for an antipsychotic drug that will not cause the TD condition you've got, that's still in trials. Hope this info helps steer you in the right direction to more suitable treatment.

What could be causing me to have all of them. I am under pretty good control as I take neurontin and namenda. Before I was put on namenda i was having rhizotomies almost every three months due to the excruciating pain.

She did a mini neuro/cognitive eval and said this may be something more than MS. Now she has prescribed Namenda XR for me. I googled it and it says it's for Alzheimers. All 3 meds mentioned are class C drugs, which means none have been tested on pregnant women, but have shown to cause defomities or problems in laboratory animals. I would strongly think twice about getting pregnant while being on all of these meds. Ask yourself if the benefits out weigh the risks.

t know the name of the drug but I believe there are new drugs for dementia. My husbands friends mother is on something that is new and she is doing better... I would discuss this again with the doctor and even if nothing else, maybe a mild tranquliser for the daytime would help..The ativan is good for situational anxiety but maybe your mother needs something a little stronger to quiet the chatter in her mind.

I have heard that it can cause severe halluciniations withdrawing from the ketamine but there is supposed to be a drug that they now use to help that. My neuro told me that they also do it in England. Too extreme and expensive for me to attempt and I'm likely not a candidate because medications do help me....however, not nearly enough.
