Avatar f tn Pseudomonas bacterial infections occur between the natural nail plate and the nail bed, and will also occur between an artificial nail coating (varnish or artificial nail system) and the natural nail plate A year at college and a Beauty Therapy NVQ level 3 in Nail services qualification.
Avatar f tn What is worse for your nails? Painting your natural nails OR Artificial Nails? Both are covering your natural nail and trap moisture underneath the nail, so I am not sure why some people are only against articials? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Some people do get nail fungus from these artificial nails, and the natural nail for everyone who wears artificial nails does weaken.
Avatar m tn There is no treatment that will reattach the nail to the nail bed, just have to wait for a new nail to grow. Do not insert acid under your nail as this can lead to further complications such as a sub-ungal ulcer. I would not waste your time seeing a dermatologist instead go to a foot professional (podiatrist), they will be able to cut your nail so that it doesnt catch on clothing, assess if you have a fungal infection and provide you will the best treatment for it.
Avatar n tn growth, it appears about 6-8 months of new growth under the old nail. As I said, the new nail is approx. 75% to the end of my toe, while the old nail has reced from my cuticle area about 20%. I DO have a habbit of spending ltos of time on my feet wearing shoes too tight for me, and letting my nails grow too long...and when i clip my big toes my shoues would feel worlds better the next day. Emberasssing, but the truth. This stopped about 8 months ago..
Avatar f tn I have a bruise under my left big toe nail, it covers almost all of the the toe nail area. It doesn't hurt like a bruise normally does if i put pressure on it and it never has. I don't know exactly how long it has been there as I had painted my toenails and due to my back problem it was easier just to top up the varnish than to remove it, so I first noticed it approx. 9 weeks ago. It has never hurt, I have no idea how it happened! I don;t remember banging it or anything.
483814 tn?1214311480 I had funky nails , {ripples ,discoloration ,also fungus .} the fungus was because my hands were wet all the time from electroplating for 30 yrs . but I remember early on ,my doc said something about the ripples and other stuff {not the fungus} , are caused from years of having hep . I did some very limited research ,seemed to confirm , now since on tx {peginterferon alpha 2b / ribavirin } I see my nails look much better . just throwing my two cents in . hope all goes well .
Avatar n tn I used to be frequent nail-biter, but I recently changed jobs, and the lowered stress fixed that problem. However, now that my nails are getting longer, a couple of them became very itchy underneath. I noticed some loose skin under the nail, almost like a dried, peeling blister. I doesn't hurt, but it's annoying...
Avatar m tn He prescribed a urea nail stick to aid with the fungus like matter under the fingernail. I keep it trimmed back to allow for new nail growth, but it gets to a certain point and develops this gross looking end to it. Any idea why it's taking so long for the nail to regenerate, or is this an indication of a possible underlying cause?
Avatar n tn Presuming it is actually a fungus, there is a problem because it is under the nail. Outside, on the skin for instance, you would just use Vick's-Vapo-Rub (believe it or not). Getting under the nail is a problem. There are systemic anti-fungals, but my husband did not have much luck with that. He kept painting the nails and pushing stuff under (as far as he could). I think it is pretty well gone now, but it took a long, long time.
Avatar n tn Then went on line to a vitamin store and bought three different treatmnts for toe nail fungus. The one thing I used 2-3 times a day was nail repair tea tree oil and I bought oreagano oil caps and opened one of themand put the oil in the nail repair. It worked really well. I have been able to keep it under control. I use this 1 -2 times everyday! I apply it after every shower.
Avatar m tn Nail fungus also known as Onychomycosis is very common but hard to treat because of the location of the fungus that happens to be under the nails. There are different ways to treat this infection, but recent studies suggest that using both topical and oral anti fungal medications at same time yields better result. First of all, you need to get the diagnosis confirmed from your doctor and get a KOH examination of the nail scrapings done to find out whether it is fungal infection.
Avatar f tn In onychomycosis(nail fungal infection) nail plate can have a thickened, yellow, or black appearance. The nails can become rough and crumbly, or can separate from the nail bed. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn As we age, nails thicken and become more susceptible to nail conditions and infections. Circulatory problems and use of medications also increase the risk of developing a nail condition. Fungal infection or onychomycosis tends to run in families because of an inherited tendency, but not everyone is susceptible. While some fungal nail infections may respond to topical antifungal creams, lotions, and gels, most infections of the nail plate require oral medications prescribed by your doctor.
1430129 tn?1283281475 I have a nail fungus that I've dealt with for nearly two years. I have had my doctor prescribe cream, I also took Lamisil (spelling?) I went to the dermatologist with my son yesterday, and he told me to file the side of my nail with the fungus all the way down, he said in order to get rid of the fungus that's in my nail, I have to get rid of that part of my nail. Is this true? I also think I have a fungus on one of my toenails.
Avatar f tn The risk of getting a fungal infection is increased by closed-in footwear, prolonged moist skin, and minor skin or nail injuries. Diagnosed by fungal KOH cultures of the nails and skin scrapings around the nails. Treatment includes topical anti fungal creams or gel. The treatment has to be continued for months sometimes. I hope it helps. Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.
Avatar m tn Fungal infection in toe nail needs long term treatment. The nail is the most difficult from where the fungus can be eradicated. You need take anti fungal tablet for at least 9-12 months. The entire nail plate takes 9-12 months to be replaced so you need to take this tablet for long time. No topical drugs only will be effective. Please talk to your physician for this. Wishing you good health.
Avatar m tn the fungus now has a great area to thrive. cut all the free nail back. apply Lamisil cream (over the counter) to the area daily. if you don't see improvement, see your podiatrist.
