1356637 tn?1277263982 There is no discoloration on any nail and no sign of fungus or infection. I took him to the pediatrician and he said he was stumped. He referred me to a dermatologist but I can't get in for a while. I looked online and anything I could find that seemed to match what my son is going through sounds pretty bad. I am pretty nervous. What could be happening???
Avatar n tn Hello, You seem to be having onychomadesis which is separation and falling off of a nail from the nail bed. Common causes are trauma to the nail, localized infection, nail fungi, allergy to nail enhancement products or some systemic illnesses. My sincere advice is to consult a dermatologist and get a histopathological examination, culture and biopsy of the skin around the nails and the nails done. Hope it helps. Take care and regards.
1430129 tn?1283281475 I have a nail fungus that I've dealt with for nearly two years. I have had my doctor prescribe cream, I also took Lamisil (spelling?) I went to the dermatologist with my son yesterday, and he told me to file the side of my nail with the fungus all the way down, he said in order to get rid of the fungus that's in my nail, I have to get rid of that part of my nail. Is this true? I also think I have a fungus on one of my toenails.
Avatar f tn I am terrified of the prospect of my nail falling off or something as I have a real phobia of nails (strange I know!!). I don;t want to bother my doctors with it as I am already seeing them for a number of things related to my back and an operation, and I always feel like a hypochondriac (sp?) when I see them as I put off seeing them so then have a list of things to sort! I was hoping someone could just reassure me that this is normal and that it will go in time really!
Avatar m tn It has yellowing underneath the nail, like a fungus which the dermatologist tested for and was negative, and whiteness on top where the nail looks dead, and you can see the new nail underneath. The doctor didn't think I had damaged the nail bed because it was growing out straight, but is funny looking. He prescribed a urea nail stick to aid with the fungus like matter under the fingernail.
Avatar m tn no no ,, my nails kinda look normal but thier is about 15 or so ridges they are like groves and its not a fungus , acctually I got a fungus several years ago and this thing killed it , it took a year to do it and the nail had a horizontal line as the fungus grew off,, and i've seen the pitcher in a magizine of what I have ,, and the drops were just 19.
Avatar n tn It appears as though both of my big toes have a new nail growing in underneath the old nail. The old Nail is raised up quite a bit compared to the new growth, which is about 1/4". I also can see a line on both nails that appears to be where the new nail is at, and that is about 75% to the end of my toe. The new nail looks totally fine. I'm 25 years old. None of my other toenails are affected. No pain or other symptoms of any kind.
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor and was told I had nail fungus and needed Lamisil. One tablet, once a day for 3 months. They took and ran tests of my blood to test my liver and they said all tests came back normal. They went ahead and said to begin taking the medication. I'm 21 and relatively healthy. I'm afraid to take Lamisil though. I've heard the side effects are horrible. Should I be worried?
Avatar f tn I might be in the wrong forum as well but I was prescribed lamisil after a positive test for Onychomycosis on my toenails. I was told to take one tablet a day for 3 months. My doctor did check my liver before starting and he called to say everything was normal and to go forth with the treatment. I've heard so many bad things from hair loss, death, loss of taste and I'm so scared.
Avatar f tn I unexpectedly got nail fungus last year, and I treated it with topical tea tree oil and I took Dr Mercola's Probiotic Packs Daily for bout 2 monts, it cleared it up and they have been fine since.
1415174 tn?1453243103 Did you have a toe nail bed infection in addition to the toe nail fungus? Did your toe nail fall off or did it just penetrate the nail itself? I am taking the oral Lamisil (luckily my insurance pays for it) and so far so good (check my liver enzymes in a month). I am also taking sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim for the anti bacterial. Yeah I know vinegar is a great cleaner and has many uses. We use it to clean our bathroom floors and even on pergo it doesn't seem to cause any damage.
Avatar m tn t realize. Your doctor looked at it but these are also fungus symptoms to just be aware of. My nail actually eventually grew to the right shape but always was very thick after (CAN cut it with nail scissors though) but is almost like an area between the nail bed and the nail is always there on one side. I just paint them. Keep them trimmed and paint them. Toes are a pain in the butt.
Avatar n tn If any part of the nail has separated from the skin, as often happens, cut that part of the nail off. Even if it has not yet separated, cut the nail as short as you can without injuring yourself. Then apply the tea tree oil twice a day to ALL your nails. Wash socks and underwear in hot water with baking soda .Keep your feet clean and dry. Consider throwing out shoes if they are old and have gotten wet, etc.
1930941 tn?1400107522 The podiatrist may remove some of the nail that is digging in or may have to remove it all. I had this happen due to toe nail fungus that I got after I broke the nail and then when the new one came in it had a fungus which made the grow funny and dig into the tissue. My GP gave me two antibiotics then an antifungal. In the end the nail had to come off and finally it is ok now. Let me know what happens. Best if you can find a podiatrist that specializes in diabetics.
Avatar n tn I was okay trying to control(possibly) the fungus on my toes and my thumb and index fingernails. Now it needs like what my wife is having(black dot on her thumb) now resembles what I had once upon a time. I don't want her to fight with fungus. I did see a dermatolgist yesterday and she said my toes are likely fungus-related but she had I didn't have enough nail for samples. Prescribed me Penlac(sp?) and asked me to go back when the toenails grow out... I am so confused now.
Avatar n tn Presuming it is actually a fungus, there is a problem because it is under the nail. Outside, on the skin for instance, you would just use Vick's-Vapo-Rub (believe it or not). Getting under the nail is a problem. There are systemic anti-fungals, but my husband did not have much luck with that. He kept painting the nails and pushing stuff under (as far as he could). I think it is pretty well gone now, but it took a long, long time.
Avatar m tn Carefully trim any loose nail portions off as they grow, including any spots with nail separation. Cutting off the loose nail and then doing the oil is key to curing this.
483814 tn?1214311480 It has definitely helped me with the recurring nail fungus, which was extremely irritating, especially as a woman, because you contaminate your nail polish over and over.
Avatar n tn Hello, From the symptoms fungal infections of the nail need to be ruled out. In onychomycosis(nail fungal infection) nail plate can have a thickened, yellow, or black appearance. The nails can become rough and crumbly, or can separate from the nail bed. Topical and oral antifungals are needed which are available under prescription. My sincere advice would be to consult a dermatologist and get a KOH examination of the nail and skin specimen done to confirm the diagnosis.
