Nail fungus keeps coming back

Common Questions and Answers about Nail fungus keeps coming back

nail

Avatar m tn He prescribed a urea nail stick to aid with the fungus like matter under the fingernail. I keep it trimmed back to allow for new nail growth, but it gets to a certain point and develops this gross looking end to it. Any idea why it's taking so long for the nail to regenerate, or is this an indication of a possible underlying cause?
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor and was told I had nail fungus and needed Lamisil. One tablet, once a day for 3 months. They took and ran tests of my blood to test my liver and they said all tests came back normal. They went ahead and said to begin taking the medication. I'm 21 and relatively healthy. I'm afraid to take Lamisil though. I've heard the side effects are horrible. Should I be worried?
Avatar m tn Hello, Such kind of nail thickening and color change can be due to trauma or nail fungal infection also. Nail fungus also known as Onychomycosis is very common but hard to treat because of the location of the fungus that happens to be under the nails. There are different ways to treat this infection, but recent studies suggest that using both topical and oral anti fungal medications at same time yields better result.
1430129 tn?1283281475 I have a nail fungus that I've dealt with for nearly two years. I have had my doctor prescribe cream, I also took Lamisil (spelling?) I went to the dermatologist with my son yesterday, and he told me to file the side of my nail with the fungus all the way down, he said in order to get rid of the fungus that's in my nail, I have to get rid of that part of my nail. Is this true? I also think I have a fungus on one of my toenails.
Avatar f tn I unexpectedly got nail fungus last year, and I treated it with topical tea tree oil and I took Dr Mercola's Probiotic Packs Daily for bout 2 monts, it cleared it up and they have been fine since.
Avatar m tn I lost a toe nail a few tears back due to injury and it grew back deformed: 1. It is not as firmly attached to the toe as the nail on the other foot. 2. It grew extremely thick. It’s not possible to cut it with scissors and not with a clipper. I went to the doctor and he told me that this is something that happens sometimes when a new toe nail grows and that there’s nothing to do about it, and it’ll just stay that way forever.
Avatar m tn I have toe nail fungus on several toes on one foot. Is there a home cure? This discussion is related to TOENAIL FUNGUS.
Avatar n tn Hi, Since your nail condition has not been given proper diagnosis ,you may discuss with your physician a nail biopsy. Nail biopsy is done to determine the cause of the condition. Based on the results of the biopsy, your physician may opt for nail surgery as a method of treatment. For patient who underwent nail surgery indications include chronic infections like fungal infections , nail tumors (which I believe is not applicable in your case) and in some trauma and unknown causes. Avatar n tn I was okay trying to control(possibly) the fungus on my toes and my thumb and index fingernails. Now it needs like what my wife is having(black dot on her thumb) now resembles what I had once upon a time. I don't want her to fight with fungus. I did see a dermatolgist yesterday and she said my toes are likely fungus-related but she had I didn't have enough nail for samples. Prescribed me Penlac(sp?) and asked me to go back when the toenails grow out... I am so confused now.
Avatar m tn the fungus now has a great area to thrive. cut all the free nail back. apply Lamisil cream (over the counter) to the area daily. if you don't see improvement, see your podiatrist.
Avatar n tn It appears as though both of my big toes have a new nail growing in underneath the old nail. The old Nail is raised up quite a bit compared to the new growth, which is about 1/4". I also can see a line on both nails that appears to be where the new nail is at, and that is about 75% to the end of my toe. The new nail looks totally fine. I'm 25 years old. None of my other toenails are affected. No pain or other symptoms of any kind.
Avatar f tn I might be in the wrong forum as well but I was prescribed lamisil after a positive test for Onychomycosis on my toenails. I was told to take one tablet a day for 3 months. My doctor did check my liver before starting and he called to say everything was normal and to go forth with the treatment. I've heard so many bad things from hair loss, death, loss of taste and I'm so scared.
Avatar n tn Presuming it is actually a fungus, there is a problem because it is under the nail. Outside, on the skin for instance, you would just use Vick's-Vapo-Rub (believe it or not). Getting under the nail is a problem. There are systemic anti-fungals, but my husband did not have much luck with that. He kept painting the nails and pushing stuff under (as far as he could). I think it is pretty well gone now, but it took a long, long time.
Avatar f tn Hello, From the symptoms it looks like fungal nail infection or trauma skin. An infection of nail fungus occurs when fungi infect one or more of your nails. Nail fungus can be difficult to treat, and repeated infections are common. Over-the-counter antifungal nail creams and ointments are available, but they aren't very effective. You need to get a KOH examination and fungal culture of the nail scrapings done and then oral antifungals prescribed.
Avatar f tn The doctor didn't mention fungus. How can you tell if it is that? I always thought a fungus would smell bad wouldn't it? The nail isn't raised, hasn't been damaged and doesn't smell. I don't know exactly when it appeared because I only noticed it when I removed my nail varnish, which wasn't chipped or damaged as I guess it would have been if it had been knocked. I am hoping I am just paranoid now....
1415174 tn?1453243103 Did you have a toe nail bed infection in addition to the toe nail fungus? Did your toe nail fall off or did it just penetrate the nail itself? I am taking the oral Lamisil (luckily my insurance pays for it) and so far so good (check my liver enzymes in a month). I am also taking sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim for the anti bacterial. Yeah I know vinegar is a great cleaner and has many uses. We use it to clean our bathroom floors and even on pergo it doesn't seem to cause any damage.
Avatar f tn he went to the doctors and it was some sort of dermintitus that got infected, so we stopped having sex for a week but they keep coming back, i feel like i am doing somthing wrong, as this never happened when we first started having sex.a day after we have sex they appear and have to wait again till they heal. is there anything taht may stop this from accuring lubricant or somthing as i feel this is effecting my relationship with him.
Avatar n tn I am still applying the anti fungus cream 2 times a day and I am absolutely sure that the scaling will be back as soon as I stop the treatment. I don't know what to do anymore. The doc already seemed clueless to me last time I went to him. What do I do if the fungus simply always comes back even though I treat it so diligently? This really concerns me.
483814 tn?1214311480 It has definitely helped me with the recurring nail fungus, which was extremely irritating, especially as a woman, because you contaminate your nail polish over and over.
Avatar m tn It could be an ingrown toenail, sometimes when that happens you can have yellow or white stuff coming out from where the nail pierces the skin. It can be very painful until you trim your nail. Check with your mom and have her take a look at it, either she can try to fix it or maybe get her to take you to the doctors to have a look.
