1430129 tn?1283281475 I have a nail fungus that I've dealt with for nearly two years. I have had my doctor prescribe cream, I also took Lamisil (spelling?) I went to the dermatologist with my son yesterday, and he told me to file the side of my nail with the fungus all the way down, he said in order to get rid of the fungus that's in my nail, I have to get rid of that part of my nail. Is this true? I also think I have a fungus on one of my toenails.

Avatar n tn Follow the directions on the tube. For the nail fungus, get pure tea tree oil and put that on your nail every day, twice a day if possible, but at least once a day. It will take months and it smells pretty much like turpentine, but it won't hurt you. There are oral antifungals, but they have the potential to harm your liver. You can take oral odorless garlic and a probiotic or prebiotic to get your system cleaned up. Avoid eating sugar to get your flora healthy again.
Avatar f tn Hello, From the symptoms it looks like fungal nail infection or trauma skin. An infection of nail fungus occurs when fungi infect one or more of your nails. Nail fungus can be difficult to treat, and repeated infections are common. Over-the-counter antifungal nail creams and ointments are available, but they aren't very effective. You need to get a KOH examination and fungal culture of the nail scrapings done and then oral antifungals prescribed.
Avatar m tn It has yellowing underneath the nail, like a fungus which the dermatologist tested for and was negative, and whiteness on top where the nail looks dead, and you can see the new nail underneath. The doctor didn't think I had damaged the nail bed because it was growing out straight, but is funny looking. He prescribed a urea nail stick to aid with the fungus like matter under the fingernail.
Avatar n tn Hi, Since your nail condition has not been given proper diagnosis ,you may discuss with your physician a nail biopsy. Nail biopsy is done to determine the cause of the condition. Based on the results of the biopsy, your physician may opt for nail surgery as a method of treatment. For patient who underwent nail surgery indications include chronic infections like fungal infections , nail tumors (which I believe is not applicable in your case) and in some trauma and unknown causes. Avatar f tn I want to know why my toe nail has looked like this for a long time. And why are my feet so dry. They never have moisture. Will apple cider vinegar baths help? How long should I do them.

Avatar m tn When my son was 2 years old he was diagnosed with a mild form of hand foot mouth disease. It went away on its own, but shortly after (1-2 months) he developed what we thought was fungus of some sort on the big right toenail. The nail has essentially split in half and has raised ridges and dead skin type of feel look to it. We thought this was the result of the hand food mouth disease.
569705 tn?1217017492 gave me pamphlets on hand eczema and the paper said that some eczema is associated with a fungus that also affects the soles of your feet. When I intially went to the dr my feet where already infected. The nails on my hands are also discolored and grow in what I can only describe has "ripples" and crumble off. I have been seeing this dr since January and am not happy with my progress.
Avatar m tn re not talking about nail fungus, but I had success in killing a nail fungus that started in my big toe after the bed of the nail had been damaged at one point. Undiluted white vinegar is a great anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. The beauty of it is that it's not a pharmaceutical and isn't likely to cause any harm, since it's used externally.
Avatar m tn About 10 years ago I went to the nail salon and added nail tips to my fingernails. A week later I went back to remove them. Soon after removing the nail tips, I started noticing my nails on my thumbs started to change colors. I went to the dermatologist and they prescribed Penlac to treat the nail fungus. After using Penlac for a while I noticed that it was not working for me. After that, I went back to the dermatologist and they did a culture and they said it was a fungus.
Avatar n tn But this is only on one side of the nail. One doctor thinks it might be a fungus, but my toes are not affected. He wants a nail sample for a lab test. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks for your help.
Avatar m tn Surgical nail removal may be used to treat severe or recurring fungal nail infections. Once the diseased nail tissue is removed, an antifungal cream can be applied directly to the infected area. This is likely to be more effective than using one of these treatments alone. Avatar n tn It appears as though both of my big toes have a new nail growing in underneath the old nail. The old Nail is raised up quite a bit compared to the new growth, which is about 1/4". I also can see a line on both nails that appears to be where the new nail is at, and that is about 75% to the end of my toe. The new nail looks totally fine. I'm 25 years old. None of my other toenails are affected. No pain or other symptoms of any kind.
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor and was told I had nail fungus and needed Lamisil. One tablet, once a day for 3 months. They took and ran tests of my blood to test my liver and they said all tests came back normal. They went ahead and said to begin taking the medication. I'm 21 and relatively healthy. I'm afraid to take Lamisil though. I've heard the side effects are horrible. Should I be worried?
Avatar f tn I might be in the wrong forum as well but I was prescribed lamisil after a positive test for Onychomycosis on my toenails. I was told to take one tablet a day for 3 months. My doctor did check my liver before starting and he called to say everything was normal and to go forth with the treatment. I've heard so many bad things from hair loss, death, loss of taste and I'm so scared.
Avatar f tn I unexpectedly got nail fungus last year, and I treated it with topical tea tree oil and I took Dr Mercola's Probiotic Packs Daily for bout 2 monts, it cleared it up and they have been fine since.
