Avatar f tn my middle toe nail has black patches near the nail bed. My beautician at first thought it a bruise, but 5 months later it has not got any better, nor grown ou with the nail. Therefore it must be under the nail. Is this a fungus of some sort? How should I treat it?
Avatar n tn I have been noticing a black dot/strip has been growing underneath my nail near the bedding. Also on my toenails there are longer black strips that resemble what I have on my hand. Is this fungus and what do I need to do? My wife has noticed it very recently on her thumb and we are all freaked out. Please help.
Avatar n tn I had to cut the dead separated nail and i saw a black thread like thing. I could shorten it but i couldnt remove it because it hurts. This black thread is moveable but it looks like it has a root.
Avatar n tn Hello, From the symptoms fungal infections of the nail need to be ruled out. In onychomycosis(nail fungal infection) nail plate can have a thickened, yellow, or black appearance. The nails can become rough and crumbly, or can separate from the nail bed. Topical and oral antifungals are needed which are available under prescription. My sincere advice would be to consult a dermatologist and get a KOH examination of the nail and skin specimen done to confirm the diagnosis.
2209241 tn?1339023213 It sounds like you have toenail fungus. You need to take an antifungal medicine orally (Lamisil) for 3 months and you will lose the nail(s). The natural remedies don't work to my knowledge as you have penetrate the nail and the other drugs don't do that.
Avatar m tn It has yellowing underneath the nail, like a fungus which the dermatologist tested for and was negative, and whiteness on top where the nail looks dead, and you can see the new nail underneath. The doctor didn't think I had damaged the nail bed because it was growing out straight, but is funny looking. He prescribed a urea nail stick to aid with the fungus like matter under the fingernail.
Avatar m tn Fungus may turn a toenail yellow, brown and sometimes black. The nail may become thickened with fungal debris growing underneath. The fungus likes to grow under the nail lifting it up so yes it is common for it to detach. There are other things that may mimic a fungal infection. Trauma itself can cause toenails to have similar changes as can a yeast infection. The best way to determine the cause is to see a local podiatrist. He/she can take a sample/biopsy to determine if fungus is growing.
Avatar m tn recently took terbinafine which seemed to help some in eliminating the some of the skin folds and white mark scars. although i think it is more geared toward nail fungus than skin.

Avatar f tn does anyone.know.anything.about.it my toe is seriously almost black started a couple hours ago and its superr painful..
Avatar m tn But base of my toe nail has turned bluish black and I feel there is a displacement in the nail position. The nail has moved forward displaced from its roots. Although it is not moving now, it is paining. I dont want to remove my nails. So I am going to leave it as it is. I hope it will be fine in a month or so. My only fear is whether infection is possible at this stage which may worsen the condition. Please suggest me in this regard.I will be grateful.
Avatar n tn ve added some photos of his fingers and a side profile of his thumb so you can see the puffiness. The black on the nail is from him slamming it at work. His nails and toes are generally discolored and yellow. Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn Hello, You need to get this black dot examined by a dermatologist. A brown or black dot or streak under a toenail or fingernail could be a blood clot, fungus infection, or possibly a skin cancer. Hence get it examined under a dermatoscope from a dermatologist. 1430129 tn?1283281475 I have a nail fungus that I've dealt with for nearly two years. I have had my doctor prescribe cream, I also took Lamisil (spelling?) I went to the dermatologist with my son yesterday, and he told me to file the side of my nail with the fungus all the way down, he said in order to get rid of the fungus that's in my nail, I have to get rid of that part of my nail. Is this true? I also think I have a fungus on one of my toenails.
565779 tn?1216513164 I have foot fungus and nail fungus, now I have tiny black spots on my skin and brown spots everywhere. Is it possible for the fungus to go into your blood stream and effect your entire body? Thanks for the help!
Avatar n tn It appears as though both of my big toes have a new nail growing in underneath the old nail. The old Nail is raised up quite a bit compared to the new growth, which is about 1/4". I also can see a line on both nails that appears to be where the new nail is at, and that is about 75% to the end of my toe. The new nail looks totally fine. I'm 25 years old. None of my other toenails are affected. No pain or other symptoms of any kind.
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor and was told I had nail fungus and needed Lamisil. One tablet, once a day for 3 months. They took and ran tests of my blood to test my liver and they said all tests came back normal. They went ahead and said to begin taking the medication. I'm 21 and relatively healthy. I'm afraid to take Lamisil though. I've heard the side effects are horrible. Should I be worried?
Avatar f tn I might be in the wrong forum as well but I was prescribed lamisil after a positive test for Onychomycosis on my toenails. I was told to take one tablet a day for 3 months. My doctor did check my liver before starting and he called to say everything was normal and to go forth with the treatment. I've heard so many bad things from hair loss, death, loss of taste and I'm so scared.
Avatar f tn I unexpectedly got nail fungus last year, and I treated it with topical tea tree oil and I took Dr Mercola's Probiotic Packs Daily for bout 2 monts, it cleared it up and they have been fine since.
Avatar m tn When my son was 2 years old he was diagnosed with a mild form of hand foot mouth disease. It went away on its own, but shortly after (1-2 months) he developed what we thought was fungus of some sort on the big right toenail. The nail has essentially split in half and has raised ridges and dead skin type of feel look to it. We thought this was the result of the hand food mouth disease.
2109342 tn?1380908975 On my right hand....under my thumb cuticle, it looks like mold (black) is starting to grow again. When it continues to grow, a small hole will eat through that part of my nail, under the cuticle (no pain but itches so much). The hole will eventually close, leaving a high ridge. As the nail continues to grow, that ridge grows out & more mold will form under the cuticle. Then, another small hole will eat through the nail. I'll end up with ridge after ridge on my nail.
Avatar f tn The doctor didn't mention fungus. How can you tell if it is that? I always thought a fungus would smell bad wouldn't it? The nail isn't raised, hasn't been damaged and doesn't smell. I don't know exactly when it appeared because I only noticed it when I removed my nail varnish, which wasn't chipped or damaged as I guess it would have been if it had been knocked. I am hoping I am just paranoid now....
