Common Questions and Answers about Mycoplasma pneumonia symptoms treatment

pneumonia

Avatar m tn Her symptoms persist (severe headache, muscle and joint pain, no voice), duration of symptoms is six weeks. Is it possible to get mycoplasma, be cured and the symptoms persist? My daughter is 16yo and has missed 3 weeks of school. Please help!
Avatar n tn You could have a secondary bacterial infection that you can get after viral pneumonia that is called walking pneumonia and is caused by either bacteria called Mycoplasma or Chlamydia pneumoniae. "Walking" pneumonia gives you a low grade fever, tiredness, dry hacking cough, pain in the ribs area. They can check for these by testing and culture. It is important for you to get your lungs listened to to make sure you are ok.
Avatar f tn If you have studied MG at all and all the research that is out there you’ll know that Lefamulin holds the hope of many for the treatment of not only pneumonia but also the atypical type of bacteria that cause infections. Believe me, the last thing I’m going to do is try to give false hope. That’s not my motivation. If you are outside the US, and suffering from MG, if you haven’t tried long term minocycline, that may be worth a shot.
Avatar m tn Could he have a cronic mycoplasma infection and does it have a relatoin with his night sweats and which could be the treatment if the last swap of his nose is positive with mycoplama, becuse he got 125 mg of erythromicyn 4 times a day, just during the days per 10 days. Many thanks.
Avatar f tn doctor decided the blood tests support mycoplasma as a diagnosis.. i am not convinced and the symptoms don't really line up with what i read, plus he was on antibiotics most of the late winter and early spring..
Avatar f tn I had texted with my physician and after being sick for 11 days, he had put me on mild Antibiotics Azithromycin 250mg for 5 days (first day 500mg) saying I probably have walking pneumonia. I had Mycoplasma walking pneumonia 2x before in 2009 already. It slowly improved after taking it and I'm better, but still not healthy and feel it is getting worse again. Every inbreath I feel a cold tickling in the mid chest area and feel I need to suppress a dry cough.
Avatar m tn Mycoplasma Infection is a nasty bacterial infection that can cause headaches, joint pain, fevers, dry couch, shortness of breath and a general feeling of the flu. If these symptoms don't resolve on there own then you need antibiotics like (Doxycycline, Cipro, Azithromycin or Biaxin).
Avatar f tn I did not realize the side effects of this drug. Wow. I also show mycoplasma infections (mycoplasma pneumonia / chlamida pneumonia) which no doctor believes requires treatment. Anyway, I've been on the antiviral drug for just over 2 months with no sign of improvement. In fact, I feel worse. I am wondering if this is the right approach. The ID doctor who prescribed the Famvir has very "controversial" methods / treatment for such diseases.

Avatar m tn You were right of my mycoplasma symptoms. The clinic just called me yesterday and my mycoplasma blood test antibody and titres came back positive. I guess i could have contracted mycoplasma pneumoniae. Results is 1:160. For negative is < 1:40 Can i know what are the available antibiotics that i can take to recover for mycoplasma? one more thing, whenever i get wet dreams my penis glands would itch like crazy is this associated with mycoplasma too? my candida AB came back negative.
Avatar n tn My 11-year-old daughter was diagnosed with mycoplasma pneumonia after having a cough for about 2 months. She is now infection-free but the cough persists. Both her pediatrician and allergist say the cough is simply a habit. However, she complains of feeling as if there's something in her throat that she's unable to cough up.
Avatar f tn Get a blood test for Mycoplasma. Make sure they send it to aspecialty lab. If it comes back ppositive make sure the do a live blood analysis of the the type of Mycoplasmas. If it is Mycoplasma it is tough to get rid of. Antibiotics are used, but only the right antibiotics will work. If it turns out to be Mycoplasma let me know. Not a docotor but a mycoplasma sufferer.
Avatar f tn Or if it is atypical or walking pneumonia due to mycoplasma, that requires a different antibiotic. And if it is not bacterial or viral, you should know! So, follow up with your doctor for further evaluation and information. (and I know this was all over the place and not that helpful, sorry!) Let us know how you are doing!
Avatar f tn They can also be transmitted via airborne infection routes. For example, Mycoplasma species are commonly found in atypical pneumonia. Even in patients who do not present with acute pneumonia, they can become systemic and present as chronic illnesses whose diagnosis usually depends on which organs and tissues are infected and the outcome.
Avatar f tn I tested pos for chlamydophila C pneumonia. Yes I had most of the symptoms you described plus lots of cysts over the decades. I also have the Igenex (lyme) testing showing # 31 which is staph aureus gram neg kind and # 34 which is the pneumonia. They go together. I had t go to a LLMD because traditional doctors do not care nor test with the right tests. yes being always cold is the real indication to have a chronic infection. Yes it is passed from person to person as it is contagious.
Avatar f tn I have had bronchitis 3 times, pneumonia once, and a sinus infection once...in the past 3 months. I feel confused alot. My blood test show highly elevated white blood cells. First it was my lymphocytes, then it was my neutraphils, then it was my lymphocytes. Then my WBC dropped to a normal level, but my neutrophils were really low. The doc says she thinks its an autoimmune disease, a blood production disease or cancer.
Avatar f tn It sounds like Mycoplasma pneumoniae. It does cause walking pneumonia by your description. Yes the best thing for it is to get an expectorant like you have and make yourself cough. Also, steaming in the shower is good. It takes a month or more to get over the cough and being tired but those are the usual symptoms. It doesn't sound like regular pneumonia. That is usually caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae and causes a very high fever and lots of mucus on the lungs and so forth.
Avatar n tn This species of Mycoplasma is also the most common cause of atypical pneumonia and ENT infections in children and can cause all of the symptoms that you report, and others. In the Houston area, Dr. Kotpotter of Sugarland, knows about this in children and how to treat it.
Avatar n tn Turns out it was mycoplasma pneumonia (community acquired atypical pnuemonia) - the reactive arthritis is definately a strong clue. The bacteria gets into your lungs and then seeps out into your bloodstream. Ignore the mono and parvo tests - herpes viruses just come to the fore when your immune system is being battered by something else.
Avatar n tn Yes. I had mycoplasma pneumonia for four months during college, could hardly drag myself from bed to the clinic. But you know how student clinics are--no fever, no meds. When, finally, I had gone in and begged so many times they got cultures, they were very apologetic. Yeah, that helped. Oh, and they jumped up and wanted to treat everyone under 15 or over 60 with whom I'd been in contact.
