pneumonia

Avatar n tn You could have a secondary bacterial infection that you can get after viral pneumonia that is called walking pneumonia and is caused by either bacteria called Mycoplasma or Chlamydia pneumoniae. "Walking" pneumonia gives you a low grade fever, tiredness, dry hacking cough, pain in the ribs area. They can check for these by testing and culture. It is important for you to get your lungs listened to to make sure you are ok.

However, I am troubled with chest pain which is there all the time but worse through the night and when I wake in the morning. paracetamol does not seem to help much.
Avatar m tn You were right of my mycoplasma symptoms. The clinic just called me yesterday and my mycoplasma blood test antibody and titres came back positive. Avatar n tn Turns out it was mycoplasma pneumonia (community acquired atypical pnuemonia) - the reactive arthritis is definately a strong clue. The bacteria gets into your lungs and then seeps out into your bloodstream. Ignore the mono and parvo tests - herpes viruses just come to the fore when your immune system is being battered by something else.
Avatar f tn It sounds like Mycoplasma pneumoniae. It does cause walking pneumonia by your description. Yes the best thing for it is to get an expectorant like you have and make yourself cough. Also, steaming in the shower is good. It takes a month or more to get over the cough and being tired but those are the usual symptoms. It doesn't sound like regular pneumonia. That is usually caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae and causes a very high fever and lots of mucus on the lungs and so forth.
Avatar f tn t have pneumonia? Do you have a cough? There is something called pleurisy which can hurt your lungs when you breathe, but both pneumonia and pleurisy are accompanied by a cough. Behind your lungs are your kidneys, is it possible that when you breathe your lungs are hurting your kidneys? Therefore it would feel like your lungs hurting but it's not. Just an idea if the doc is ruling out lung problems.
Avatar m tn In late 2015, I was asked to start using an inhaler (Symbicort). I noticed it seemed to irritate my lungs. Very mild intermittent symptoms developed incl. slight wheezing at the end of exhalation during exertion.
Avatar f tn WIhat a big pain when you have to get up and do your teaching job. The thing with the lungs is they take a while to recover if irritated like they were when you had bronchitis, you can have productive cough left over for up to two months! So annoying. You can go ahead and take the Z pack but am not really sure why they gave that to you unless they are worried about mycoplasma which is what causes walking pneumonia. I'd continue the Claritin and go ahead with the z pack.
437079 tn?1222438840 Infiltrates on a xray usually means that the air sacs are filled with fluid, cells, bacteria, or other substance. Pneumonia is an example , also fluid build up from CHF (congestive heart failure) can present as infiltrates from what I remember. I know that there are other reasons. What did your doc say Diva? Again keeping you in my thoughts..
Avatar m tn Could be allergies, yes once you have had pneumonia you will have scarring ..it wont affect you, check out online for environmental allergies .
Avatar n tn You have got to get up and move around to prevent it. If you do have pneumonia in your lungs you will need pretty powerful antibiotics so don't hesitate to see a doctor.
242516 tn?1368223905 The flu has passed epidemic rates in much of the country, and if you don't have a cold, I'm sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread.
Avatar m tn ve had a cough, mucus production, and phlegm for well over a year now, and my physician diagnosed (with a blood test) mycoplasma pneumonia. Even after 2 rounds of Biaxin recently, my bronchial symptoms have returned a bit. I took an anonymous full panel STD test a few months ago and was negative for STD's. Would cunnilingus, in any way, have caused these bronchial symptoms (can you catch anything that would pass into the lungs)? I am in my late 40's.
Avatar m tn I have been to different doctors trying get help with my breathing problem My wife got sick 4 months ago with what she thought was pneumonia lots of coughing they finally gave her a zpac and she is fine. I got this cough and shortness of breath I went to the doctor with her and he told me that i have pneumonia and should be home in bed. Avatar f tn in the middle, I was subsequently diagnosed with Bronchitis or possibly Mycoplasma pneumonia, and given Doxycycline just in case as well as the other Antibiotic I was taking (I am allergic to Cephalosporin and Roxithromyacin antibiotics).
Avatar m tn I have had atypical pneuomonia twice (mycoplasma pneumonia or walking pneumonia usually but it can be caused by chlamydia pneumonia too). Was this bout of atypical pneumonia following a influenza or cold? These are not too unusual either. You could be lactose intolerant, have wheat gluten intolerance or a food allergy of some other type. Crohns disease? I would do an emanation diet where you knock out all dairy and see if that works if not knock out all wheat etc.
Avatar n tn My 11-year-old daughter was diagnosed with mycoplasma pneumonia after having a cough for about 2 months. She is now infection-free but the cough persists. Both her pediatrician and allergist say the cough is simply a habit. However, she complains of feeling as if there's something in her throat that she's unable to cough up.
Avatar f tn Get a blood test for Mycoplasma. Make sure they send it to aspecialty lab. If it comes back ppositive make sure the do a live blood analysis of the the type of Mycoplasmas. If it is Mycoplasma it is tough to get rid of. Antibiotics are used, but only the right antibiotics will work. If it turns out to be Mycoplasma let me know. Not a docotor but a mycoplasma sufferer.
Avatar f tn Or if it is atypical or walking pneumonia due to mycoplasma, that requires a different antibiotic. And if it is not bacterial or viral, you should know! So, follow up with your doctor for further evaluation and information. (and I know this was all over the place and not that helpful, sorry!) Let us know how you are doing!
Avatar f tn They can also be transmitted via airborne infection routes. For example, Mycoplasma species are commonly found in atypical pneumonia. Even in patients who do not present with acute pneumonia, they can become systemic and present as chronic illnesses whose diagnosis usually depends on which organs and tissues are infected and the outcome.
Avatar f tn I tested pos for chlamydophila C pneumonia. Yes I had most of the symptoms you described plus lots of cysts over the decades. I also have the Igenex (lyme) testing showing # 31 which is staph aureus gram neg kind and # 34 which is the pneumonia. They go together. I had t go to a LLMD because traditional doctors do not care nor test with the right tests. yes being always cold is the real indication to have a chronic infection. Yes it is passed from person to person as it is contagious.
Avatar f tn PS lookup Mycoplasma asthma or mycoplasma pneumonia on the cdc, that will get you there quicker.
