Avatar m tn My daughter had been diagnosed with mycoplasma pneumonia and now the doctor says she no longer has it. Her symptoms persist (severe headache, muscle and joint pain, no voice), duration of symptoms is six weeks. Is it possible to get mycoplasma, be cured and the symptoms persist? My daughter is 16yo and has missed 3 weeks of school. Please help!
Avatar n tn You could have a secondary bacterial infection that you can get after viral pneumonia that is called walking pneumonia and is caused by either bacteria called Mycoplasma or Chlamydia pneumoniae. "Walking" pneumonia gives you a low grade fever, tiredness, dry hacking cough, pain in the ribs area. They can check for these by testing and culture. It is important for you to get your lungs listened to to make sure you are ok.
Avatar f tn I had texted with my physician and after being sick for 11 days, he had put me on mild Antibiotics Azithromycin 250mg for 5 days (first day 500mg) saying I probably have walking pneumonia. I had Mycoplasma walking pneumonia 2x before in 2009 already. It slowly improved after taking it and I'm better, but still not healthy and feel it is getting worse again. Every inbreath I feel a cold tickling in the mid chest area and feel I need to suppress a dry cough.
Avatar n tn My 11-year-old daughter was diagnosed with mycoplasma pneumonia after having a cough for about 2 months. She is now infection-free but the cough persists. Both her pediatrician and allergist say the cough is simply a habit. However, she complains of feeling as if there's something in her throat that she's unable to cough up.
Avatar n tn I have asthma and i have had pneumonia 3 times in the last 7 months. My doctor and I agreed it was time to run tests. So far I have found I have mycoplasma pneumonia. And possible problems with my immune system which he is talking about gammoglobulin shots. Can you give me some insite?
Avatar f tn Cough gets worse when I lie down at night, but it comes when I am upright in daytime as well. Have a humidifier now in my room. Sucking on lozenges help but only temporary. Please help me get rid of this nasty cough................
Avatar f tn They can also be transmitted via airborne infection routes. For example, Mycoplasma species are commonly found in atypical pneumonia. Even in patients who do not present with acute pneumonia, they can become systemic and present as chronic illnesses whose diagnosis usually depends on which organs and tissues are infected and the outcome.
Avatar n tn Evidence for Mycoplasma, Chlamydia pneunomiae and HHV-6 Co-infections in the blood of patients with Autism Spectrum Disorders. J Neuroscience Res 2007; 85:1143-1148). This species of Mycoplasma is also the most common cause of atypical pneumonia and ENT infections in children and can cause all of the symptoms that you report, and others. In the Houston area, Dr. Kotpotter of Sugarland, knows about this in children and how to treat it.
Avatar f tn I developed athletes foot at age 10. Toenail fungus at age 14. I get a viral infection in my nose kind of like cold sores since I was 18. At 23 I developed consistent migraines. At 24 I developed a rash, cellulitis, on my ring finger. At 29 I had pneumonia. I’m now 30 and continually have: worsening nail fungus, spread to over half of my toes. I’m constantly cold. Most of the piercings I’ve received have gotten infected. I go through serious waves of depression and anxiety.
Avatar m tn She is back in school, but just failed a vision test, so we are still searching for answers. I still believe that mycoplasma has played a role in her condition, but there is not a lot of research to prove it 100%. She just started taking Lyrica and her joint pain is better, but I wish that she was not so reliant on medicine. I understand what you are going through. Don't stop searching for a cure. I won't give up.
Avatar f tn Or if it is atypical or walking pneumonia due to mycoplasma, that requires a different antibiotic. And if it is not bacterial or viral, you should know! So, follow up with your doctor for further evaluation and information. (and I know this was all over the place and not that helpful, sorry!) Let us know how you are doing!
Avatar f tn I have a bag of mixed blessings, I return to the dr on friday with my husband, but right now I have severe mycoplasma pneumonia with a titer of 790, the doctor who has practiced medicine for years has told me that he has never seen a blood titer over two hundred. I was prescribed erythromyacin, and hopefully this will work to fix the problem. If not, I dont know what to do.
Avatar n tn Yes. I had mycoplasma pneumonia for four months during college, could hardly drag myself from bed to the clinic. But you know how student clinics are--no fever, no meds. When, finally, I had gone in and begged so many times they got cultures, they were very apologetic. Yeah, that helped. Oh, and they jumped up and wanted to treat everyone under 15 or over 60 with whom I'd been in contact.
Avatar f tn I have had bronchitis 3 times, pneumonia once, and a sinus infection once...in the past 3 months. I feel confused alot. My blood test show highly elevated white blood cells. First it was my lymphocytes, then it was my neutraphils, then it was my lymphocytes. Then my WBC dropped to a normal level, but my neutrophils were really low. The doc says she thinks its an autoimmune disease, a blood production disease or cancer.
Avatar m tn Hi, today is the 1st day of the 7th week since last exposure to possible mono. I am currently living in SG where i guess "mono" is still quite "rare" so screening for mono is hard to find in clinics. I tested for mycoplasma on the 12th~13th day after possible exposure. It stated M hominis no growth. Is it accurate for the screening for mycoplasma? or should i wait for a month before screening for it. Thanks very much!
Avatar m tn I had mycoplasma pneumonia and was treated in hospital with iv antibiotics and oxygen after christmas til new year. Upon release I developed a post infection wheeze which was treated with 7 days of prednisolone. My O2 sats are 99 and blood pressure etc normal - x ray showed normal with no pneumonia. However, I am troubled with chest pain which is there all the time but worse through the night and when I wake in the morning. paracetamol does not seem to help much.
Avatar f tn in the middle, I was subsequently diagnosed with Bronchitis or possibly Mycoplasma pneumonia, and given Doxycycline just in case as well as the other Antibiotic I was taking (I am allergic to Cephalosporin and Roxithromyacin antibiotics).
Avatar n tn and a lack of air movement in my lower left lung. She diagnosed me with community acquired pneumonia. I was prescribed Robitussin with codeine to help me sleep, although all it really did was tire me slightly. After another week of feeling completely miserable I started to breath better, my nose dried out, and my cough produced less and less green mucus. Sleeping then was hard, but I was able to take my meds, settle down, sleep for about two hours, wake up again from coughing and repeat.
Avatar f tn My son is 11yrs old and has had mycoplasma pneumonie 4x in 2yrs. He is suffering from headaches and dizziness, he also stays very fatigued. The dr. performed blood work and CBC and Iron levels came back normal. He also has asthma and is wheezing and has a cough. They always treat him with a Z-pak and his cough goes away but the myco stills shows up in his blood. The dr. told me that it just stays with some people for yrs.
Avatar n tn Turns out it was mycoplasma pneumonia (community acquired atypical pnuemonia) - the reactive arthritis is definately a strong clue. The bacteria gets into your lungs and then seeps out into your bloodstream. Ignore the mono and parvo tests - herpes viruses just come to the fore when your immune system is being battered by something else.
Avatar f tn You are absolutely correct in the fact it’s been approved for pneumonia. But off label prescriptions are done all the time, at least here in the US in cases where there are no other options. It’s such a new drug that of course there’s limited proof it would work in vivo. But how do you think Moxifloxacin became an option? In vitro evidenced suggested it would work..and it did for a while.
