Avatar m tn Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy is a rare, acquired, symmetrical, sensory motor neuropathy usually, chronic form of guillain barre syndrome. The standard therapy options include intravenous immunoglobulin and plasmapharesis, corticosteroids, azathioprine, cyclophosphamide, etanercept, mycophenolate mofetil, interferon alpha 2a and tacrolimus. Current ones are interferon beta 1a, rituximab, and high dose cyclophosphamide.
Avatar m tn I am being successfully treated for a rare autoimmune condition with 15 mg prednisone and 1 gr mycophenolate daily. Although mycophenolate use involves a risk of opportunistic HSV infections, I was not warned about this. I recently had sex WITH A CONDOM with a partner whose status for HSV infection is unknown. Within about a day, I had developed numerous lesions. These spread rapidly and my doctor said they had an appearance consistent with HSV.
778275 tn?1326913623 I can sort of answer your first question. Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) or Cellcept has been extensively researched for its use in myasthenia gravis. Also, it carries a FDA black box warning that it may increase your chances of infection, lymphoma and congenital malformations (for pregnant women). Also, its optimal dose is yet undecided. Pyridostigmine (Mestinon) is the usual first line treatment for MG.
1323747 tn?1364806882 I just had testing for neuropathy that showed I have it and the testing doctor says he thinks my Hashimoto's caused it. I also had an ultrasound that showed I have only a sliver of my thyroid left due to the Hashi's destroying it. I didn't know neuropathy could be caused by thyroid conditions and I am wondering how it is treated. Has anyone else here experience this?
1054753 tn?1339968724 i do not think that the loose bowel movements are directly related to the transplant itself. they could be from the medications such as mycophenolate or ursodiol. sometimes certain infections can also contribute. If the liver tests are OK, then the loose bowel movements are not from the liver.
Avatar m tn additional agents such as mycophenolate (cellcept) may be necessary or in cases of severe rejection a medication such as thymoglobulin may be needed.
Avatar m tn My doc is trying to reduce the dose. Since I was on tacrolimus only(as Mycophenolate causes TLC to go down in two occasion), sirolimus 1mg is started along with reduced tacrolimus(2mg BD, Tac level ~4.5). But the creatinine is still high(1.8). It seems some side effect of Sirolimus is also coming as the TLC is 3400 and platelet is 80,000. What do you suggest to bring creatinine under control? What is the way to determine the exact required dose of tacrolimus?
Avatar f tn Hi all My wife has SLE which about 8 months ago began to come undercontrol with mycophenolate.
Avatar f tn t respond to prednisone or azathioprine, your doctor may prescribe stronger immunosuppressants, such as mycophenolate (CellCept), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune, others) or tacrolimus (Prograf). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When medication fails to stop the progression of cirrhosis eventually a liver transplant must be considered. This is another reason to also seek treatment with a transplant facility.
Avatar f tn And immune suppresant mycophenolate for 6 months. I am grateful for your thoughts. Apologies in delay replying I have been unwell.
Avatar f tn I am not on Cellcept which is Mycophenolate Mofetil 1g morning and 1g night. This is a fantastic immunposuppressant. Basically what I am telling you is that at any time your body cannot any longer tolerate one drug, there is always another waiting. The one I am on now is more 'pure' in other words there are less chemicals in in to effect the liver. It might be worth a mention if you are uncertain but many people are able to tolerate your medication for many years.
Avatar m tn however, there is no documented increased cancer risk specifically with the use of long-term mycophenolate use. the less immunosuppression one takes over time, the better however.
Avatar f tn I have burning in the bottoms of my feet, as well as neuropathy in feet and hands. The neuropathy is caused by years of untreated pernicious anemia, so if you haven't been tested for B12 deficiency, you should ask your doctor to do so. I'm not sure about the burning in the bottoms of my feet. I don't think it's thyroid related, but at this point, I can't say.
Avatar f tn I am 2 chemos away from finishing my round of six and have developed peripheral neuropathy in my hands and feet. I am on 300mg Neurontin 3 x a day and it still seems to be getting worse. The pain keeps me from walking long distances and I cannot hang my hands down; I have to keep my elbows bent. I have also tried acupuncture. I use warmth to alleviate the pain but it is only a temporary relief. Any ideas or experiences?

Avatar n tn Hi, Benign neuropathy is usually the treatable form of neuropathy. It occurs mainly due to diabetes or B12 deficiency. It can be controlled by maintaining the sugar levels in the normal range and by B12 supplementation.
Avatar n tn I have type 2 and have developed severe neuropathy throughout my body. My weight is normal I'm 45 years old. This last year has been very hard because I'm falling a lot and it has advanced to a point where it's very difficult to walk at all. I don't have insurance so getting the proper care is hard. I recently admitted to myself that I'm no longer able to work and I'm in the process of filing for disability. The question I have is this.
Avatar n tn I am a T1 dibetic x 39 years. I also have neuropathy (focal, peripheral and autonomic). I have not tried Lyrica. I am using neurontin. These drugs take a while to build up in your body. To tell you the truth, I take a cocktail of medicines...for the pain I use neurontin 300-1,200mg. depending on the time of day, motrin 800mg, and nortryptiline as needed when the pain gets really bad. The latter is an antideppresant that is also used for pain management.
Avatar n tn Male friend had brain surgery. He was left with chronic venous insufficiency and neuropathy. He can't walk because of this. What can he do to stop the severe burining sensation on both of his legs?
Avatar n tn Is there cure? Or a way to bring it under control? The doctor ran a series of tests: doppler, blood work, nerve testing, etc. He said "Neuropathy w/ unknown diagnosis" Put me on very low dosage of Gabamtin (sic) and Hydroxyotin (sic) Then told me to get tested for diabetes in six months. My feet, especially left foot -- numb, cold painful toes, pain in the balls of both feet. It feels like it is starting to affect my hands.

422216 tn?1203212806 I was diagnosed in June of 2007 and have had pretty good BGLs since changing my diet. My question is, these little shocks in my figers and toes and hips, are they normal? I haven't had a 200 day or night since November last year and don't get really bad lows either but these things are driving me nuttier. My dr says it's nothing to worry about, just a little neuropathy. Is that a real diagnosis?
428886 tn?1217682034 She said the burning sensation in my feet was neuropathy. Does anyone else suffer from this? She also said the itching is an excess amount of Billiruben (spelling ?). And to my dismay there is not an anti-billiruben pill. LOL She ordered an ultrasound, my liver is enlarged and feels like it is pushing my ribs. Just to make sure there were no other issues. And she wrote the orders for my RNA and PCR.
