I'm a 51 yr old caucasian female and my fingernails have a tendency the curl over as they grow out. This has been happening regularly for quite a few years. If I've had my hands in water, they straighten out until they have dried, then curl again. I've been told it might be a vitamin deficiency. Can you help?

My fingernails have good coloring (french manicure look). Why are they dry and brittle? Why do they curl up at the edges near the base and sometimes flip or curl upwards at the tip? Please help! Thank you.

My cuticles are ok thanks to jojoba oil but my fingernails chip and flat out break like crazy. The are moderate in length, kind of curl under a little and the color is good but they are brittle and dry. I don't use nail polish and I buff them once in awhile for a light sheen, but that's it. What to do? I have redhead skin and not the best looking hands to begin with. I'd like to not have them all super short to nonexistent but I don't see how to avoid this.
Doctors say nothing is wrong and it is in my head. In that time my hair has become so thin, you can see my scalp. It has also become straight as a sheet of paper. It won't even curl when I try to roll it. The pain in my fingers has me to the point that I can almost not use them. I noticed that half of my fingernails don't look right. They look like maybe the nail bed(pink part) is getting smaller. My hands get red, swollen, and the viens will bulge on my nuckles.
(was very curly now just frizzy) The skin under all my fingernails starting at the nail bed has a very light fleshy color and as it nears the end of the finder has a red line that turns even a deeper red as the nail extends beyond the end of the finger. The end of the nail is white. The ring fingernails are flat and the middle fingernails are flat to start with and then turn under in a wavy motion.
I have white lines across the top of my fingernails, right before the nail no longer connects to the skin (or nail bed). Some of my fingernails are also starting to curl under at the ends. I've read that both of these things are a sign of liver disease. Splendid, really. My abdominal pain and soreness is worsening.

The pointer fingerails have begun to get a small wave to them in the last few weeks.

then is subsides and my son has it too. The last time I saw little round circles on my arms was a year ago while having a car wash. I have night sweats. My legs and feet swell. Now all these symptoms and I'm sure I'm leaving out some, first came separately now all at once. Just had another MRI of my neck because that is what they are focusing on because of my arm numbness...but they need to put all the symptoms together. Is it me?
My once beautiful, shiny, long hair that would curl and stay curled is now dull, short (barely grows at all) lifeless, brittle and falls out so much I have to plunge my shower and sink regularly. In the process of trying other products, including shaving gel (BIG mistake), I started getting bumps on my lower left leg - but nowhere else. I stopped using the shaving gel right away and have tried many things to treat it, but they won't go away. It has been 4 months now, and I've having a miserable summer - too embarassed to wear shorts, never mind a bathing suit.
One little bit on information that I forgot which may or may not bear any meaning is my fingernails. They curl down along my fingertips.
-scaly skin and hive breakouts -leg pains and achy bones -insomnia -the crazies And on a vainer note, what about the thinning hair, bent fingernails, and wacky eyebrows? I finally broke down and went to get my hair cut. My stylist freaked out. We expected my hair to thin, but he was shocked that my hair has been growing in darker and completely straight for what he says has to have been 5-6 months judging by the length. My hair is normally super-duper curly.
Lately I have noticed how my skin changes color. I know that prolly sounds crazy, except my employees noticed it the other day. One employee looked at me and said "deb, your face looks yellow, go sit down, I will finish up here" Now the yellow went away, but lately I have been getting lots of remarks about my skin tone. It seems to be like a pendulum, even hubby said to me yesterday, "at least your skin is starting to look like its normal color again".

Hi, everyone! I hope everyone has been doing well or at least improving. I had a period with insanely stiff neck for about a month and dozens of doctor's appts, since I was last here. My lymph nodes are still painfully enlarging and my, now PCP, at Hopkins consulted with the head of ID at Hopkins where they ran a ton of cultures and antibody titer tests. I had a high titer for histoplasmosis, which after my own research explains my "odd" chest pain and calcifying lymph nodes.
even decided to curl my hair since I got the new haircut the other day...letting it go naturally curly all the time gets old. I want straight hair darn it! Even though it took me an hour to get ready, I feel better and am ready to tackle anything thrown at me today! Hope you're still feeling good. You should feel like you're on top of the world after what you've accomplished over the last few months!
Yes, nail salons can be a potential source of hepatitis C. I am glad I never visited one. I take care of my fingernails and toenails myself. And I would recommend anybody not to go to these places as well as to tattoo parlors. The risk these days is just too great.
A month later (May 2010), since my menstrual cycle was still abnormal, and my TSH had only come down to 2.99, my GP decided to increase my dosage to .50. At this point, my energy level was up, but so was my anxiety, and I was constantly flushed in the face and overheated/sweating all the time. But she said my body would adjust. By the 3rd month on levothyroxine (June 2010) 3, my GP deided to increase my dosage to .75 to bring my TSH fown to the 1's.
