Common Questions and Answers about My dog has a yeast infection in his ear

yeast-infection

Avatar f tn So you might want to dilute the apple cider vinegar or peroxide with an equal amount of water at first then gradually make it stronger. Try wetting a cotton ball with some apple cider vinegar and sticking in his ear, not down in his ear though, you don't want it to get stuck. You could even trick him to do this. If your dog is like mine he loves to be petted and have his ears rubbed.
423279 tn?1203562853 He has always had bad ears with chronic yeast infectons. However for the past month he has had this horrible odor( not yeast) coming from his ear. It is only 1 ear & it obviously hurts because if I try to clean his ear he flexes up & doesn't want me to touch it. the drainage or wax has turned dark brown instead of the usual yellowish color. I would have allready taken him to the vet but he doesn't do well with vets due to pevious bad experiences.
370181 tn?1595629445 My vet, who we have taken 23 years worth of animals to, will not let us make payments to help our dog who has a yeast infection in his ears and which seems to be spreading to the other creatures who allow us to live here. My dog is a rescued shepard/sheltie cross. He had been shot, beaten, legs broken and starved, then tossed into a snow covered field to wait for death to find him. Fortunately, a kindhearted farmer found him first.
Avatar m tn My dog has had an ear infection for the past 12 weeks and nothing seems to help. First it was a year infection, then it was a rod bacteria infection, now it is an enterococcus infection, or so they say. She has been on 3 different medications, including baytril and postatex and 2 different antibiotics, has had a deep ear cleaning which required sedation and has had several ear swab/cultures. Has anyone else had this problem and, if so, how did you finally treat it.
5769293 tn?1373926011 ) He has discovered that his dog is allergic to yeast. He was feeding the dog a good food which contained yeast (for vitamins) When he stopped that food and changed it to totally yeast-free, the problems subsided. That would also apply to any sugars. I think the best thing might be to research a food for him which is completely natural. That will be quite a task, but worth doing. Even if it costs more. Think of what you will save in vet's bills and ointments/medications etc.
Avatar n tn Nutrition Smart, and asked them what I could do for my dogs ear infection. I think my dog has allergies and his ears hurt...but his ears are fairly clean all of the time. There was a lady customer who heard me asking the clerk about ear infections. So in lieu of hearing me,, she said I use Oregano oil for my ear infections...so she explained how to use it. Let me say that this works! Take a coffee mug.. mix 50% / 50% of oregano oil and olive oil.
Avatar n tn My dog did the same thing and the vet said she had a yeast infection and bacteria. It does need treated before it swells shut. My dog is on antibiotic and prednisone and an antifungal pill. We also have to put ointment in her ears. The vet said she would be on meds until atleast May. She has been on meds for 3 weeks already.
Avatar f tn Taysien is a shelter dog he stayed with another family and the dog that they owned had an ear issue they said was a yeast infection of the ear? Their vet gave them pills for the dog to take an it cleared up. Our dog got this ear issue while there and we went to our vet and told them what had happened to their dog. They told us that it required steroids and put him on them this made him aggressive. We were told to discontinue the steroids.
Avatar f tn I have seen people have to use medicine for, in a couple of cases, almost 30 days to completely get rid of a yeast infection in the ears. It could be also be a case of either the wrong medication or even the right medication, just not for a long enough period of time. Your vet won't know unless you give her your feedback.
Avatar m tn I am not familiar with the bumps but our Westie has skin problems, dermatitis/yeast - has a bad odor too. We use a medicated shampoo at least once a week that contains something to actively fight yeast infection - I forget the name of the active ingredient, Koe .. something along that line, I'm sure help will show up. I think you are doing the right thing diet-wise, but it may be necessary to test different protein sources. I assume the "wild" line has wild type meat/fish.
Avatar m tn My dog has a mild yeast infection in her left ear but she may have a tear in her eadrdrum. The vet gave us TrizEDTA but due to her losing her hearing from Tri-Otic, we didn't want to use any more ear medication that can cause hearing loss. I've recently started making her home cooked meals, wipe her down with apple cider vinegar+water, and flushing her ears out every other day plus cleaning the outer part of her ears on days I don't flush.
Avatar m tn My Dog is a 8&1/2 year old, 160lb English Mastiff. He has had a chronic ear condition, for more then a year, with lots of brown wax building up in his very large ears. He has redness in his ear (which might be from scratching or not) and pain when he shakes his head. We have tried many different things: mite treatments, general ear cleaner with drying powder, ear cleaner with bio-active enzymes, cleaner with 1% hydrocortisone and none have kept his ears clean for more then a week.
1429136 tn?1287209602 Also wash out the ears with a product called Malaseb a medicated shampoo in Aus. I put a sqeeze of it in luke warm water and squirt into ear and gently rub it in he will shake it out after. It keeps the inner ear in clean tip top condition. They breeders used to use Meths it must have been angony for for the dogs. But please get the ears cleared up first at the vets.
370181 tn?1595629445 (AGAIN) I did call the vet and they told me Axel was diagnosed with a yeast infection in both ears and given the Gentizol. My husband and I were very diligent about treating Axel twice a day, but by day 4 it had turned into a nightmare.I've told you all that Axel is a rescue dog. He and his brother had been horribly abused as tiny pups, shot, beat, starved and left to die in a vineyard during winter.
Avatar n tn It would be best to have his ears checked by a vet who can perform a cytology, and/or a culture and sensitivity on the ear discharge. Lately, the culture and sensitivities that I have performed have yielded surprising results, and the infected dogs, not only required topical ear medication but also required oral antibiotics or anti-fungal medications.
Avatar n tn He needs to go to the vet. He sounds like he has a yeast infection in his ear (very common with poodles)....It has gone on way too long....get him there asap.
Avatar f tn I'd stay away from creams for now until you can get the advice of a vet. Is there an ER vet you can call for advice in your area? I've phoned in similar questions to our ER clinic and they've always been great about answering them over the phone without insisting that we bring in the dog. As long as they know the dog is being treated by a vet, they're fine with giving medical advice over the phone. Worth a try anyway.
209987 tn?1451935465 I tend to agree, it sounds like a yeast infection in the ear, which will need sorting with medication from the vet, otherwise it will just get worse and worse and could result in your dog damaging their inner ear permenantly. Allergies are invariably difficult to identify, yet without finding out what your dog is allergic to it becomes pot-luck to try and prevent it from getting worse. You can have a patch test done, but this can be expensive (ask your vet about it).
612551 tn?1450022175 t mean to be negative about my vet, there are others in the area (but his one is less than 2 miles, a plus) but I understand they all have a business to run: building, insurance, staff, and then take home a reasonable salary to live in themselves. Still, I try to limit vet visits to an exam once a year and emergency situations, I believe I should be able to work out the more routine stuff.
Avatar f tn Have you looked inside the dog's ear? If a dog scratches his ear a lot, it's usually because there is some kind of infection going on inside. He'll need a vet to provide medications if that's what is going on.
Avatar f tn s ear canal, rub the ear in a circular motion, and then your dog will probably shake her body out. That's okay, the vinegar solution won't all come out it will spread about a bit in the ear canal. If the yeast infection is also just inside the outer part of her ear, then bathe the inside of her ears with a cotton wool pad and some of the solution. This doesn't want to be too wet. You don't want too much liquid going down into her ear canal.
1629404 tn?1299628841 I think the infection has gotten so bad, that his ear drum has ruptured! This is not only excruciatingly painful, but is very dangerous! His hearing is at stake, now.... He needs to get back to a Vet, ASAP......An ear check & Antibiotics should not cost $300....You need to call around and get some price quotes from different Vet offices..... Do you have a Veterinary Teaching Hospital (University School) anywhere around you....These will be located on a College Campus....
746512 tn?1388807580 I am dog sitting for a couple of weeks right now and the dog is miserable. He has some sort of unknown allergies but is on a low grade food (beneful) and horrible smelling skin. He is beet red in his ears, armpits and abdomen. The skin is also hyperpigmented in spots, flaky and has similar texture to elephant skin (wrinkled and swollen). He also has a sweet horrible odour (especially earss) so I'm assuming a yeast infection.
