Avatar m tn I have been sore right around both of my gluteus Maximus muscles since December. The muscle is very tight and seems to be restricting the movement of my lower lumbar. It's uncomfortable to sit even for short periods of time as there is a dull pain from my glutes down the back of my legs. I have been to a spinal PT and I temporarily felt better but not much. He focused only on my spine and said my movement was very limited for a 27 year old.
Avatar f tn One study performed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill showed that subjects who performed dynamic warm-ups had higher performance in the vertical jump test than those who just did standard stretching. Dynamic flexibility, which is moving your muscles and joints within your full range of motion repetitively, should be performed before weightlifting because it stimulates higher neural activity and increases tissue elasticity.

Avatar f tn You need to use the right exercise and diet program. What you eat determines whether you will gain, maintain or lose muscle mass. Decrease your total daily caloric intake by 500 to 750 calories per day. A caloric reduction is needed to lose weight. You can find your maintenance calorie intake by using a standard calorie calculator. Maintenance calories are those needed to maintain your body as it is.
Avatar n tn Please note that when I first noticed a diminished range of motion it was so minor with no pain that I didn’t even know at the time that something was wrong and figured it was just a result of losing flexibility as I aged. It is only the last 2 months or so that it has started getting worse to the point where I feel it is making everyday activities difficult. And pain is a little more present. Though I have yet to take a single aspirin or ibuprofen because of this.
Avatar n tn You can be incredibly fit and strong and not have muscles that are that well defined, and if your muscles are too large they confine movement and flexibility in all but the most incredibly genetically gifted athletes. When I studies martial arts muscles that were too large and defined were seen as impediments to strength, which was believed to come from the combination of muscles with quick movement.
Avatar n tn Isotonic exercises also build muscle and strength, but unlike isometric exercise they do require movement of the joint. Still, these exercises, such as lifting and lowering the leg from the knee while sitting in a chair, are gentle and use your own body weight to create resistance, which makes them a perfect workout for those with arthritis. Again, work with a physical therapist or medical professional to choose the best exercises for your particular situation.

Avatar n tn My right arm was normal with no decreased flexibility. There was no pain, and I just figured the problem with the left arm was reduced flexibility due to aging. Then about 4-5 months ago, I noticed that the range of motion had reduced even more. Maybe a few more inches. Still no real pain. This basically only affected the ability to reach behind my back and wash it in the shower. Up until that time, it never entered my mind that something could be wrong with my shoulder/upper arm.
Avatar m tn When you first have pain you have to slow down, rest, then start range of movement exercises and stretching, and then move on to strengthening exercises after the pain eases. This is basic physical therapy. This has been going on for awhile, so I'd think it's time to see your doc and then get referred to physical therapy. What they will have you do depends on what's going on, so an MRI might be ordered for you.
529224 tn?1400648219 You are off to a good start by noting when and how the pain progresses. There are a lot of possible causes from muscular to skeletal, from short term to long term. How long has this been going on? Are you better some days than others? Have you tried sleeping with a pillow under or between your knees? How good is your mattress? What helps the pain subside? Have you ever had back pain before?
