I would think your neck nodes were swollen. Since you are sick, you may be lying in bed with more pillows and bending your neck wrong. It's just not unusual to have neck pain when you are sick, although a very stiff neck can be a sign of meningitis, so be sure you keep that in mind.
I am having the same trouble with my neck, it starts in the back of my neck goes along my shoulder and into my arm. Has even caused some numbness. I was diagnosed with FM last summer but pretty sure I've had it much longer than that. I recently had an MRI to find out what is going on with my neck, shoulder and arm. I was thinking that it is part of the FM but more severe in that area.
you need to consult an orthopaedician or a neurologist to examine you and do certain imaging like MRI spine, nerve conduction velocity studies to check if there is nerve compression, x-ray of the shoulder joint to check for any fracture, trauma etc. Muscle pull or excessive muscle strain in shoulder, vigorous exercise and weight training could also cause these symptoms. For almost a month now I've been waking up every morning with a painful neck muscle. It's located in the back of my neck on the left side just above where the shoulder and neck meet. It's most noticeable when I turn or move my head in certain ways. It's at its worst first thing in the morning and is less noticeable throughout the day. I've tried changing pillows, heating pads and changing what position I sleep in.
Went to emergency with severe pain in right shoulder, up into the neck and down the right arm (woke up with it). Have been on 500 mg. Naproxen , twice daily, for 3 weeks, and 10 mg. Pms-cyclobenzaprine every 8 hours. I'm still experiencing pain plus some new tingling down the arm. Should I be going back to my doctor? It seems this is taking an unusually long time to get better.
I recently pulled a muscle in my neck/shoulder with medication and pain killers it seemed to be getting better then 3/4 weeks ago i noticed a lump sticking out near my clavical i was xrayed and showed nothing broken it has got worse and is now quite painful could this be a tear or something else im stumped and in a lot of pain .
Six months ago, I strained my muscle between my neck and shoulder, after running. Sometimes, the pain started at the base of the skull and at times my shoulder. I went to the doctor and took a xray that did not show a dislocated or herinated disc. I went on vacation and did not run but swim. I was free of pain. I have started back to running and thepain is back. What could be wrong?
The "sternocleidomastoid muscles" are most likely those which are giving you radiating pain from ear down to neck/shoulder/arm(Google for picture of this muscle if unfamiliar with its location). There are two of these muscles in the superficial layers of the anterior (front) portion of the neck that make the shape of a “V”, and they are primarily helpful in rotation, flexing and extension of the head.
I have been having some bad pain in the right side of my neck. I have always had some neck problems but it hasn't been this bad in awhile. On top of it all my right shoulder is hurting and so is my right arm. My arm muscle is so sore and feels so heavy and tight and I haven't done a whole lot. I have taken Tylenol and tried biofreeze but nothing is working. Has anyone else had this happen? I'm 9 weeks right now.
About a year ago, I fell at work and landed on my right shoulder. I went to the Dr later the same day as the pain was unbearable, he did exrays and said he couldn't see anything wrong, and said I had probably strained the muscle.
I sometimes experience shoulder pain, pain radiating to my left breast and tingling pain in my thumb. I don't know if taking vitamin B12 and using ice and cold patches will be good for you but they certainly help me. Maybe you can ask your doctor before trying. I hope and pray for your fast recovery.
You may certainly have wrist tendonitis, but why the neck and shoulder pain. The pain and numbness you are having could be from your neck and an EMG would assist with that answer. It is a nerve conduction study. You also need an xray and MRI of your neck to rule out that as a cause for your numbness. I would see a neurologist.
For approximately 10 years, I have suffered from severe, predominately right-sided chronic neck, upper back, shoulder muscle and nerve pain that radiates down into my hand. I also have some pain in numbness in my right foot, ankle and knee. I was diagnosed with moderate cervicothoracic scoliosis as a child but did not have braces or other treatment. My right shoulder is lower than my left, my head tilts to the right and my right shoulder rolls forward.
I two have hashoimoto but I do not just have muscle tightness in my neck and shoulder's I get knots in my shoulder and the middle of my shoulder blades and in my hips and down the side of my thighs that will not go away. Does anyone else have this problem. Also, I will get a little better such as I can go for walks and I don't die at night when I'm sleeeping but then it seems to come back worse. Does this disease have what you would call flair ups?

Rotator cuff signs and symptoms would consist of shoulder pain and also deltoid muscle pain in your upper arm, weakness during shoulder functions and also clicking in the shoulder with popping a prominent feature in some people. It occurs in a dominant arm and the pain may interfere with sleep and worse at night. There is problem with lifting of weights with the effected shoulder and decrease in ability to move the arm, especially out to the side.
I also have been suffering with shoulder and neck pain, and even upper back. I was wondering if the two could be related. I was tested for hormonal problems, thyroid problems, myalgias, and anything else they routinely test for when they take your blood. I was given a low dose of antiepressant to help me sleep at night so I am not awakened with the pain. This helps at night, but I am getting weary of the constant ache.
The tingling is now gone, but I still have upper back/shoulder blade pain and arm pain. The pain ususally starts in my upper back, then under my armpit, then my upper arm feels tight and starts to hurt and the pain then radiates down the front of my arm, under my wrist and sometimes into my hand. And I still feel as if my arm is weaker. Last night I had some muscle twitches in my shoulder and when I lean back to stretch my upper back my shoulder does hurt some.
Went to phisio, which helped with the initial horrible pain, but now I still have shoulder and upper shoulder blade pain, and also neck pain, occasionally along with it.There are times when the pain is still felt in my chest as well, although numerous trips to the hospital has assured me that mu heart is fine.(still a very scary feeling!)I also occasionally have a numbness in my left arm. Please help with suggestions!!! I've had an MRI done on my neck, and that was fine too.
My husband keeps getting recurrent pain in his neck. He has had to go to the ER a few times and x-rays were normal. He went to the dr. yesterday and she gave him Flexeril and Ultram but they don't seem to help the pain. Tonight I put hot, wet washrags (making them hotter slowly) and after waiting about 15 minutes, rubbed ben-gay on his neck and shoulder muscles. He says 'if I could just crack my neck, I think it would feel allot better'.
I hurt my neck (around C6-8 I think) in Aug 2012, pain is always burning and sometimes can barely get head straight up. Been to ortho - not a bone issue, neurology denied referral, this is ongoing and the only relief is not to use arms etc. movement forward like playing cards or computer is worse. Fingers go numb when sleeping - have to get up a lot to move neck around to get ok. wake with headaches and severe neck pain.
January 30th- I started getting a stiff neck, afew days later I started getting shoulder pain, a week later the neck pain subsided to my right side of my neck, and was only stiff, not painful. The shoulder pain moved directly into my rotator cuff of my right shoulder, and remained there for approx. 2 weeks. Eventually the shoulder pain decreased, was getting pains in my collar bone, had 2-3 days of no pain, only the stiffness in my right side of my neck.
