Mupirocin ointment in nose

Common Questions and Answers about Mupirocin ointment in nose

bactroban

Just to clarify, she did a culture and discovered staph bacteria in my nose, which isn't all that uncommon in the general population and which wasn't really the problem -- the congestion was the problem, something I ended up treating quite successfully myself by taking bromelain supplements after I had distanced myself from the ointment she prescribed for a few days.
i know, it sounds so weird. Then in the last 2 weeks, more mucous has been draining in my nose, not at the tip only now, and now I have these scabby areas in both nostrils on the center side and then at the top tip of one nostril... I do not feel as though I have a sinus infection, so I am unsure where the mucous is coming from.

On occasion, I will get a really hard bump in the cartilage on my nose. I have tried to not touch it this time, and it has continually gotten larger and more pus-filled. Today, after seeing the giant scab with pus behind it, and with a really sore nose, I decided to push on it. After the first squeeze, this really nasty white gunky stuff shot out. After a few pushes, it was just blood.

It moves around my nose and under my nose, but has not moved onto other parts of my face. I can tell when it is flaring up in a new area because it itches and tingles and is really sore! I have seen two dermatologist, no viral or bacteria can be found with the cultures. They are both totally stumped. I have been on antibiotics (Keflex, Doxycycline), anti-viral (Valtrex), a variety of topical creams (Ciclopirox, Mupirocin, Cloderm).

It is very annoying, noticeable, and I can feel it constantly - it feels like a disturbed dryness although I keep it moist with ointment (Centany, mupirocin ointment). I have attached 2 pictures and two close ups of it below. There is a small part on the side of the nose that may contain a little bit of puss, but I can't tell for sure. Thank you in advance for your help! http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f387/jbobbet/nose1.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f387/jbobbet/nose3.
I'm a 28 year old mom of 3 and 3 weeks ago today I had my tonsils out, a septoplasty in the left side of my nose, and polyps removed from the right side of my nose. I had a horrible recovery from the tonsillectomy and septoplasty but the polyp removal wasn't so bad. About a week ago I started having a terrible rotten smell in the right sidde of my nose. It was so bad that it almost made me sick. Well this morning I had gotten up choking on the mucus draining into my throat.
Seven days later it has come back with a vengence. Blisters started in inside nose again, by next day started in 4 other places. Blister and then crusted over, red! Very itchy and tingly when first showing up. Do I continue the Bacitracin? What about acupuncture? 4-18 Rash outside edge of nostril. Sore. Small blisters crust over, very red. Physician appt - Keflex 4-20 Worsened. Sore! Derm appt. Cultures neg. Stop Keflex.
The rash on my face did eventually go away, except for around my nose. It's red with tinny little pin head like bumps which sometimes has white stuff in them like a pimple. Or the skin is just red and raw looking and constantly flakes. It right around the underneath edges of my nose sometimes partly coming out from inside my nose. I feel it tingle at times, but I try to never touch it. I have been dealing with this for 25 years and no ointment in the world works.
every so often (every month or so)the skin on the bridge of my nose becomes very soft and swells (faint swelling over the bridge of my nose). the skin in the area that swells becomes faintly lighter than the rest of the nose.
Also use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful. Walgreens has their own less expensive brand) **(let the soap sit on your skin for at least a minute, pay close attention to arm pit and pubic regions (warm and moist) as this is where the germs love to hide). I also used Mupirocen ointment in my nose. Well, tested again and no CA-MRSA. But the scab is still there!
Ok - I went to the ENT Dr. (ear, nose and throat) / Otolaryngologist 10/23. She just looked inside my nose and said that it's a sinus/staph infection. She said it's not the serious staph and that everyone has staph in their nose. She put me on a second round of antibiotic right away instead of messing around with the first round because she thought that they swelling was unusual. The antibiotic I'm on is called "Avelox" and I saw improvement with the swelling in <24 hrs.
Yup, I had it for 3 days last week, while on Augmentin. Went to see a "Doc" who obviously had no clue what it was. I had an extremely painful and stuffed nose, and a sore throat. Nose spray didn't help. I gritted my teeth and sprayed "Ayer" in the nose tried triple antibiotic skin ointment with added pain med in it. Vasalene didn't help. I did have small nosebleeds with scabs here and there in my nose. Inside the tip of my nose was the worst.
They are very tiny, white filled bumps in/around nose, appearing in clusters. They seemed to pop up over the course of a day, and multiplied by the next morning. They are relatively itchy, and very uncomfortable... Not sure if this is a minor skin condition such as a form of acne, or something more serious, such as caused by some other infection. Should note that I have had a cough the last three weeks, and do not smoke - ever.
It is odd because after a few days of packing my nose with peroxide cotton balls and triple antibiotic ointment at bedtime, the same symptoms appear on the opposite side. This has happened back and forth 5 - 6 times now and I can't understand it. I know it is in the "intermediate crus" area of my nose and this area is a host to many nasty bacteria and germs. Could my recent cortisone injections in my back be causing it?

I am a 34 year old woman. I have had a red dry itchy rash under my nose for 3 months that won't go away. Occasionally, tiny whiteheads will develop. I pop them and they go away but eventually come back in the same place. I've tried putting intense lotion on which helped with the dryness but not with the redness. I've also tried putting antiseptic cream on containing phenol (1.20%), zinc oxide (6.55%), methyl salicylate (3%) and octafonium chloride (0.3%).
They are more common in areas with many oil glands like nose, cheeks, face, back and shoulders. Another possibility is that these are boils which are usually caused by bacteria Staphylococci .It is often the cause of recurring boils. Avoid itching as this can lead to spread of infection. I will advise you to see a primary care physician and get it checked. Treatment will depend on the cause. Best luck and regards!

I finally after years and years went to a dermatologist and he gave me an antibiotic ointment called Mupirocin Ointment 2% (AKA Bactroban) and with amazment it went away for the most part.. I used it for weeks... then a month then finally it just stopped working.... I went back to the derm and he gave me Ketoconazole/Desonide combo cream to put on in between putting on the Mupirocin Ointment... It seemed like the K/D cream actually made my issue worse...
Is that something to be concerned about? Is it OK to use the regular Mupirocin in your nose? My physician did not schedule a follow up. What sort of symptoms we be a cause to return to the doctor? Thank you.
Same thing here. Started on nose in one cluster (at 50 yrs old), removed all white plugs and it finally after several months went away. Then it spread to cheeks, chin, forehead, even temples. It finally cleared up on forehead, temple areas but got very aggressive in smile line area of face and chin. Just when they look like they're going away and relatively smooth - except for the scars - all hell breaks loose. Now, it's also back to origin place on nose and it's horrible.
