Mupirocin for herpes

Common Questions and Answers about Mupirocin for herpes

Individuals who are predisposed to folliculitis should be extremely careful about personal hygiene. Application of antiseptic washes may help prevent recurrences. A topical antibiotic cream, mupirocin (Bactroban®), has been effective at reducing bacterial colonization in the nostrils. It is applied twice daily for a week and is repeated every 6 months. If there any of the mentioned medical causes then treating those will reduce the occurence of the condition. http://www.dermatologychannel.
Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics may be needed. Please consult a dermatologist in that case. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
I am 27 have had 1 sexual partner, and we use condoms. He has not been tested for Herpes and has never shown symptoms. I tried using diaper rash ointment (when I thought it was chapped skin from working out), jock itch ointment, baby oil, baby powder, gold bond powder, Monistat chafing ointment, and a minor steroid topical ointment for psoriasis without any luck. I have tried to get appointments with doctors to get a firm diagnosis but have been told that they cannot see me for 2 weeks.
She decided to go ahead and treat me with a one time 4 gram dose of azithromycin for the chlamydia and a weeks worth of acyclovir for the herpes. She said that she really thought it was herpes but that if I wanted to keep using the ointment until the lab results came back, just incase, I could. On the copy of the paper they gave me she wrote that I had a clear, whitish, discharge from my cervix. (I would like to add that i haven't noticed any strange smells.
Hello, It can be a boil or a cyst and does not look like genital herpes. You should keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics and warm compresses. Also use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful. Nationally, there are at least three different studies beginning for the treatment of genital herpes. First, the Genocea phase one (first in humans) trial. Instead of an oral medication to treat herpes, Genocea out of Boston has taken the approach of stimulating the immune system to respond more robustly to the herpes virus in people who are already infected with the virus.
Has it become a fluid filled blister that scabbed? That is herpes. Or is it just red & swollen with a head to it? That is a pimple or ingrown hair...
I am worried about a possible herpes outbreak and would like to get other peoples advice.. About a month ago I shaved my genital area and the next day I noticed a large red bump on my vagina, near my panty line. It was a large bump with a white head and popped a few days later, releasing pus. A couple days after it healed I shaved the area again and noticed another bump the next day. It looked exactly the same as the first bump.
On one hand, any genital area ulceration has to be evaluated for herpes. On the other, I doubt that's what you have, for at least a few reasons. First, the location of lesion is wrong. HSV infections usually don't take unless the virus is massaged into the exposed tissues -- for which reason initial herpes lesions usually occur at the sites of maximum friction during sex.
I just want to know if it is possible for herpes to show 6 months after a sexual encounter or would it present itself earlier than that. Thank you.
I've noticed like for the past week, bumps near the hole of my butt, but on the skin. They're like little white bumps, and when I touch them, they almost roll and peel off. I'm not sure what it is. After I peel it off it bleeds a little. It's scaring me. I've only had sex with one person and he's only had sex with me. Is it herpes? What is it??
They itch like crazy and there is a small rash that is barely visible around my belly button and I itch around my thighs and butt but do not have a rash there. I have been putting mupirocin ointment on it that was given to me for the infection on my leg. The blisters are not very visible unless I masturbate and then they get inflamed and itch like crazy. Is this scabies or herpes or just carry over from the staph? Please help.
My quesion is if I have folliculitis and not herpes will it just go away by putting antifungal crean an neosporin on the rash. It is in my pubic hair region and I have been to the doctors for std checks an blood panels done all came back negative. I am in construction an am on my feet all day I tend to perspire allot due to the fact I am always hustling.
So for the past few summers I've been getting one episode of a rash over my entire top lip. I've never noticed anything resembling a cold sore (nor have my doctors) and I've now had 2 negative Herpeselect HSV1 and HSV2 tests separated by about 10months (from PlannedParenthood). Literally, I'll have one doctor tell me on Tuesday it is not herpes labialis and another tell me it is on Wednesday. It is always terribly itchy and the corners of my lips split at each recurrence.
Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or Neosporin are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics may be needed. Please consult a dermatologist in that case. Recently I had a oral herpes scare - it was what seemed like a zit right ont he edge of my mouth/lip. I went to the doctor to have it tested and they took a viral culture of it - which came back as a negative. It was taken only a few days after the zit thing appeared. I then read that they are not always that accurate. since the test I have noticed a zit on my pubic area - not in the vagina are but above it like where the hair begins to grow. could this be herpes or something else?
Topical antiseptic treatment is adequate for most cases. In your case antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment should be applied on the lesions. If they do not resolve you may need a course of oral antibiotics to bring about a resolution. You can take NSAID's if the pain is very bad. Sice you have noticed the connection between shaving the area and the outbreak, it would most probably be a skin infection and not herpes. ref:http://en.wikipedia.
Throughout the day the white tip was more visible and now it looks like what the picture looks like. Could this be herpes or is it an ingrown hair? or something else? I get acne, so I would think it's a pimple, but I never have this symptoms with pimples... (burning, tingling,...etc) I've searched a lot about ingrown hair.. it says that the hair should be visible, but I don't see any hair on mine. What could this be? I'm scared that it might be herpes. Help! Thank You!!
I have got tested for herpes in oct 2008 and feb. 2009 and I was negative for both hsv 1 and hsv 2. I saw a dermatologist and he said that it was folliculitis and prescribed me solodyn (minocyciline). The sores on my lips usually last a week, but I usually pop them and they are sore, but no blood or pus comes out. They heal and have dissapeared, but for a little redness that you can't really see unless you look closely in the mirror. Is there still a chance that this is herpes?
You can treat this with topical antiseptic ointment which is adequate for most cases. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment can also be applied on the bumps to hasten the resolution. It would be advisable to consult a skin specialist for your symptoms and a proper clinical examination. Let us know if you need any other information and post us on how you are doing. Regards.
my name is matt, I recently was in a relationship with a woman who had failed to mention she had HSV2, i had sex with her for roughly a month everyday... with a condom. later i learned she was on acyclovir, during the course of our relationship she had no outbreaks or symptoms. Recently i had developed a slight fever or felt like i had one, and then night sweats for about 3 hours followed by a cough.
She had been to the doctors for hemroids and once given creams, broke out in white bumps that were not painful at all. She was tested for herpes but everything came back negative. How did everything work out for you?? Hope all is well!!!
I am a 23 year old straight male in good physical shape. I am constantly doing physical activties, it is a big part of my life. Over a year ago, I went to costa rica. I was there for about a week, swimming and surfing constantly. I don't think I practiced good hygene. I used the same swimming trunks over and over if it makes a difference. I slept with a prositute and had vaginal sex. She also performed oral sex on me with a condom on.
Now i have several bumps that are kind of tender and a red rash. I have put cream on my genitals for the past several days and the poison ivy and itching have stopped on my penis. I just want to know i dont have herpes do i? alos my groin kinda hurts on the left side of my body near the groin aread in the pelvis region but the other side doesnt.
Hello Like three days ago I went to the gym and ran on the treadmill for a good 20 min at an incline, then later I went to shower and starting washing on the inner left thigh in between the scrotum and thigh. I noticed like 6 or 7 open sores that kind of burned as I washed them. The sores seemed to be on top of some stretch marks i have between the groin and scrotum. I dried the groin area with my towel and they burned a little not at an extreme level though.
A couple of weeks ago, I noticed what appeared to be two whitehead pimples on the shaft of my penis. This is not very uncommon for me, and I usually just squeeze the pus out, and they disapear after a couple of days. About two months ago, I had unprotected sex with a girl who claimed she was a virgin. Now, after popping both of the 'pimples', pus came out of both, and one of them disappeared, but the other site remained, and became red and inflammed.
Dear ledodge, Thank you for writing back. With the description, it doesn't seems to be Herpes. Probably, it’s just a inflammatory response to the friction or the inflammation of Sebaceous glands. I think, you can try applying Mupirocin cream locally over the lesion after getting it prescribed from your doctor. It’s a Antibiotic creams and very safe to use. Kindly let me know the response of the cream and also if there is a change in the lesion.
I visited my doctor and he did a bacterial test and herpes culture test. Bacterial test turned scanty bacterial growth and herpes test turned negative. Then he prescibed mupirocin. But still i am getting these sores in the same spot at the rate of one each month on one of the 3 spots. they tend to ooze pus and blood. Also, i personally got my blood tested for IGg specific test for herpes type 1 or type 2. That too turned negative.
