Mupirocin for herpes

Common Questions and Answers about Mupirocin for herpes

bactroban

My boyfriend says he does not have herpes but he has never been tested. I have looked at pictures on google and it does not look anything like my rash. Is there any way this could be something other than herpes?
Application of antiseptic washes may help prevent recurrences. A topical antibiotic cream, mupirocin (Bactroban®), has been effective at reducing bacterial colonization in the nostrils. It is applied twice daily for a week and is repeated every 6 months. If there any of the mentioned medical causes then treating those will reduce the occurence of the condition. http://www.dermatologychannel.net/follicle/folliculitis.
I'm 20 years old and have been in contact with a girl who found out she had herpes. That was 7 months ago and a month after she told me I got tested. Results came back negative. I recently got a small single red bump on my shaft and I thought it was a pimple. I popped it and it only bled no residue came out. I also at the same time got flu like symptoms (its a bad sign I know) I put acne medication on the bump and it dried it out. It doesn't hurt or itch like I hear herpes does.
Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics may be needed. Please consult a dermatologist in that case. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
I visited my doctor and he did a bacterial test and herpes culture test. Bacterial test turned scanty bacterial growth and herpes test turned negative. Then he prescibed mupirocin. But still i am getting these sores in the same spot at the rate of one each month on one of the 3 spots. they tend to ooze pus and blood. Also, i personally got my blood tested for IGg specific test for herpes type 1 or type 2. That too turned negative.
I am 27 have had 1 sexual partner, and we use condoms. He has not been tested for Herpes and has never shown symptoms. I tried using diaper rash ointment (when I thought it was chapped skin from working out), jock itch ointment, baby oil, baby powder, gold bond powder, Monistat chafing ointment, and a minor steroid topical ointment for psoriasis without any luck. I have tried to get appointments with doctors to get a firm diagnosis but have been told that they cannot see me for 2 weeks.
I've looked at every online picture I can find of anything that it could be and while, it does look more like herpes than anything else I could find (I found very few herpes pictures that resembled what I have and those were of healing lesions, were in large clusters, or they were a lot redder.) I had trouble finding pictures of genital staph, or any mild staph for that matter, and it seems to vary a lot. My boyfriend says it looks like it staph to him.
Hello, It can be a boil or a cyst and does not look like genital herpes. You should keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics and warm compresses. Also use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful. there is no real pain, or at least nothing that can be ruled out as mentally created so does this sound like a case of herpes or just irritation / follucitis?
Topical antiseptic treatment is adequate for most cases. In your case antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment should be applied on the lesions. If they do not resolve you may need a course of oral antibiotics to bring about a resolution. You can take NSAID's if the pain is very bad. Sice you have noticed the connection between shaving the area and the outbreak, it would most probably be a skin infection and not herpes. ref:http://en.wikipedia.
Recently I had a oral herpes scare - it was what seemed like a zit right ont he edge of my mouth/lip. I went to the doctor to have it tested and they took a viral culture of it - which came back as a negative. It was taken only a few days after the zit thing appeared. I then read that they are not always that accurate. since the test I have noticed a zit on my pubic area - not in the vagina are but above it like where the hair begins to grow. could this be herpes or something else?
It doesn't hurt or itch at all and never has, and there is only one. Could this be genital herpes, or am I just being way too paranoid?
My quesion is if I have folliculitis and not herpes will it just go away by putting antifungal crean an neosporin on the rash. It is in my pubic hair region and I have been to the doctors for std checks an blood panels done all came back negative. I am in construction an am on my feet all day I tend to perspire allot due to the fact I am always hustling.
Hello, From the symptoms it looks like folliculitis or cysts. It does not appear like herpes blisters which present as painful blisters which scab over. Folliculitis starts when hair follicles are damaged by friction from clothing or blockage of the follicle. In most cases of folliculitis, the damaged follicles are then infected with the bacteria Staphylococcus (staph). Keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics.
Has it become a fluid filled blister that scabbed? That is herpes. Or is it just red & swollen with a head to it? That is a pimple or ingrown hair...
I havent had any tests but i do have an appt with my primary phsyician in two weeks. Is this herpes or a bacterial infection, or maybe ingrown hairs. Should i be concerned and what do i do from here.
i never thought it was herpes because i seem to get pimples in various places all the time and these pimples seemed to appear after heavy workouts but not after every one, but after researching herpes im scared to think thats what it is. they never look like blisters, just regular butt pimples. they are also on both sides of my buttocks and 2 of them are completely parrellel and seem to rub together when im in motion. they also have never looked like blisters.
Most likely a folliculitis.Apply mupurocin, you should be fine .Do consult your doc.
I have got tested for herpes in oct 2008 and feb. 2009 and I was negative for both hsv 1 and hsv 2. I saw a dermatologist and he said that it was folliculitis and prescribed me solodyn (minocyciline). The sores on my lips usually last a week, but I usually pop them and they are sore, but no blood or pus comes out. They heal and have dissapeared, but for a little redness that you can't really see unless you look closely in the mirror. Is there still a chance that this is herpes?
From everything I have read, it sounds as if I have herpes, but when I went to the doctor, she told me one of the bumps looked like folliculitus and the other was sort of suspicious. I'm awaiting my test results and it could not seem any longer. I guess what my question is, with the symptoms I've explained, could it be folliculitus?
I have been tested for Clymidia, Gonreah, syphilis, herpes 1 Igg, Herpes 2 Igg, HIV, Hep a, b, c at 13 weeks after first exposure and at 4week after 2nd incident. All negative My concern is I keep getting pimples on vaginal area....I have went to several doctors and some say acne, cyts, and just yesturday one said infusion cyst. she stated I need to loose weight it could me that. Im also I have been suffering from acne on my face.
I am worried about a possible herpes outbreak and would like to get other peoples advice.. About a month ago I shaved my genital area and the next day I noticed a large red bump on my vagina, near my panty line. It was a large bump with a white head and popped a few days later, releasing pus. A couple days after it healed I shaved the area again and noticed another bump the next day. It looked exactly the same as the first bump.
I have also recently completed two courses of antibiotics to treat a chest infection. Does this look like herpes or just pimples due to poor hygeine? Could it be something else? I am anxious about STD's so if this is herpes it is definitely the primary/first outbreak (I check myself frequently). Thanks.
Im a 21 year old male. About 3 weeks ago I had unprotected sex with a woman. About a week ago in direct sunlight i noticed that there were small almost invisible skin-tone bumps in the crease between the rim of my penis and the side of my shaft on the left side. they did not hurt and basically looked like raised cells, i thought nothing of it. Anyways, about a week ago I noticed slight pain in the head. towards the left side...
I only have to sit for 30min to an hour before I start feeling the pain tingling stinging and burning. Is anyone absolutely sure this isnt Herpes. Ive had a Herpes select blood test and was positive for HSV1 but ive been positive for this for years and occassionly get coldsores. Is it possible to have HSV1 gentially and orally. Does folliculitus act like this?
If what I have is indeed herpes, what would the mupirocin do (if anything) to the area? Things have definitely improved, but I'm trying to gauge if it's a fluke or not. Any information will help. Thank you.
It is now the following Tuesday and It got darker and non-noticeable now, is that the characteristic of herpes, or jus irritated skin on my lip? Well actually its just a little bit above my right lip lining.
It looked similar to a canker sore like you get in your mouth but slightly larger with a hard base and it was painful to the touch. I went to a doctor and he told me it could be herpes, but also prescribed Mupirocin ointment in case it is an infected hair folicle or something similar. The thought of herpes scares me and I am confused about how I could possibly have it since my husband is my only sexual partner ever and I am his only sexual partner ever.
