488198 tn?1493875092 A Genetic Cause For Multiple Sclerosis Is Identified And Funded By Science Patron, Jeffrey Epstein The CYP27B1 gene is discovered by Oxford University to be a leading cause for multiple sclerosis NEW YORK, June 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- A recent study at Oxford University in England and published in Annals of Neurology, has identified a gene that causes vitamin D deficiency and may also be the cause of multiple sclerosis.
Avatar f tn Recent studies In 2005, researchers at the Serono Genetics Institute (SGI) achieved a major milestone in identifying and creating a register of genes involved in Multiple Sclerosis (MS). For the first time in this disease area, researchers identified 80 genes involved in the inflammatory and neuro-degenerative pathways of MS, based on a 40% genome scan comparing the genetic profile of a total of 1,800 people with MS and healthy individuals in different populations.
Avatar m tn Since science cannot pinpoint the cause of MS with any accuracy, no one knows the cause. It is likely to be multiple factors. So I believe there is no answer to your question.
1925501 tn?1322888691 It was a teaching hospital, so the doctor’s offered to run some tests, to see if they could find the cause. They never found the cause of the high blood pressure, but the Doctor said he had MS and in order to diagnose my father he would need to run several more tests.
Avatar m tn Its been a month since my catscan, and now they are looking at my EEG, to find abnormal brain activity. Which would most likely be caused by something genetic, like Multiple Sclerosis, or Migraines. Both of which, my doctors are taking into consideration. You say a parasite can live in the brain. Why is that true? I have to ask because... When i read the symptoms of brain parasites, they seem to mimic multiple sclerosis, in the form of seizures, loss of vision.
Avatar m tn I found this site the other day and it also has good articles on MS research. file:///Users/Charley/Desktop/Multiple%20Sclerosis%20Resource%20Centre.
Avatar m tn my sister (24) was diagnosed Multiple Sclerosis in 2010, responded to steroid. now she suffered sudden & complete loss of vision in her left eye. she has been put on SOLUMEDROL. please suggest any available treatment modalities world over ? chances of return of vision ??
Avatar f tn There are several types of white matter disorders, the most common one being multiple sclerosis. There are other genetic/metabolic disorders, collectively known as the leukodystrophies, of which there are several types. In someone with white matter disease, evaluation for inflammatory or infectious causes is important as well. The course and the treatment really depend on what the exact cause is. Multiple sclerosis, vasculitis, and other disorders each have their own treatments.
Avatar m tn One of them said it is all due to ur anxiety ( Cause i do not have any bladder problems and dizziness, numbness tingling all is due to anxiety) but one said its Multiple Sclerosis+ anxiety. My MRI and EEG were clear. Currently i have high frequency of muscle tingling through out my body only when i am lying on bed plus i see double vision of any statement especially ( white in colour) on TV and laptop. Is it MS? Should I start taking Med for MS or just let it be and hope it will go away?
Avatar n tn Hi, Long term use and overdosage of Paxil does cause myopathy, dizziness and vertigo in some patients. I would suggest you to go for MRI of the brain and spine to rule out Multiple Sclerosis and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. This will give a diagnosis whether your symptoms are due to medication overdose or neurological disease. The significant symptoms of these diseases are balance problems along with other neurological symptoms. Please consult a neurologist for the same. Hope this helps you.
1639182 tn?1317147533 Thanks for replying! I have had symptoms for years, and always believed my preeclamptic pregnancy (and a complication and infection from the surgery) was the cause. It took several years (since early 2002), and several doctors who would have rather read doctor opinions and put me in the depressive category (from 2005-2009), than figure out the cause of my symptoms (If I was 'depressed', it was because the doctors stopped listening - not the cause of my symptoms).
1422615 tn?1334064234 When a couple has a boy or girl already and would like to add to their family without having multiple children in order to have the desired sex, genetic screening can help. The X and Y chromosomes determine if you will have a boy or girl. By testing the chromosomes of the embryo, we can know if you will have a boy or girl before you become pregnant. This allows couples to balance their family by using gender selection.
382218 tn?1341181487 6% had relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis, 9.4% primary progressive multiple sclerosis and 6% clinically isolated syndrome. Nearly 40% of our multiple sclerosis patients with disease duration >10 years (mean = 16.2 ± 5.3 years) remained with no or mild disability (Expanded Disability Status Scale [EDSS] 3). Also, about 30% of patients with relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis showed benign disease evolution (EDSS 3) more than 20 years (mean = 24.0 ± 3.3) after onset.
11594441 tn?1419693988 As they are strictly hereditary/genetic, finding certain genetic components via biopsy for example will render a yea or nay. Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis is very often a protracted process as it involves ruling out many mimics, considering the MacDonald criteria, and observation over time if results are ambiguous.
