Avatar f tn I read a comment that said there are risk factors that may play a role in one having MS and that a prior infectious trigger is one. I've ALWAYS been a magnet for UNUSAL diseases. scarlet fever, immuno-thrombocytopenia , chicken pox (2x). Could any of these have led to RRMS? Thanks for any light on this.
Avatar f tn I was just wondering what some of the causes were and if you perhaps were told of risk factors that could lead to not carrying to full term. I am sorry for your loss if you have experienced it, I know very well what a shock and emptiness it can leave and it changes you forever. Hope you can give advice so many women can be more informed.
Avatar f tn If you have a parent or sibling with MS, your risk increases to 1 in 100. If you have an identical twin with MS, your risk is 1 in 4. It is interesting that identical twins do not always both have MS, even though they share 100% of genetic information. This fact is why researchers have concluded that MS is not simply a genetic disease. Ethnicity and Geography: MS occurs more often in people of northern European descent, but other ethnicities may also have MS.
Avatar n tn CSF analysis can continue to be abnormal and show evidence of inflammation even during a remission from MS symptoms, however, several studies have shown that during remission, the quantity of inflammatory markers (like immunoglobulins) can be less than during active disease phase, usually due to the effect of immunosuppressive therapy with steroids or other immune therapies.

Avatar m tn I have had numerous tests done and my MSH and MMP9 are way out of whack. An MRI showed three abnormal bright spots on my brain. Can environmental factors cause these problems. Before 8 years ago I was an college athlete and a personal trainer so I was always in top shape.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm sorry to hear about your cousin. Is he/she diagnosed with MS? There is definitely a genetic component to MS. It's not straight "genetic" like blue or brown eyes, but having a member of your "immediate" family with MS raises your risk quite a bit. Depending on where you live the risk of developing MS is about 1 in 800 people. If your parent or sibling has MS your risk rises to about 1 in 35 or so.

491754 tn?1209487651 I have heard that MS is most common in places closer to the equator but some posts that I have read contradict this. People are saying that MS is more common in northern regions. I would think that MS is most common in places closer to the equator where it is hotter because the heat tends to bring out symptoms. What do you know about this matter? I'm very curious.
Avatar f tn Rarely is one factor alone responsible for causing the disease. Your total risk is made up several different risk factors which include family history, genetic risks, weight, physical activity, history of gestational diabetes, and diet. Diabetes can be diagnosed at different stages of life depending on the combination of risk factors. The more risk factors that you have for diabetes, the greater your risks.
