1054985 tn?1257173275 ), I am very tired, have bits of depression. Are these symptoms or just the disease itself? I guess the question is this an episode or just minor things that MS cause. Is a person with MS tired all the time or just during episodes?
Avatar n tn Hi Everyone. I guess I'm wondering what my level of worry should be at this point. The main symptom I'm concerned about is when I sit at my desk at work and often when I'm walking or jogging, I'll get a tingling, numbness sensation in the tips of my feet. The area is from the ball of both feet into all toes. It comes and goes for approx 1 month now. My problem is I have suffered health anxiety in the past for many years for which I took Aropax (Ant-depressant) for.
Avatar f tn I had depression and they ignored me until I was diagnosed with MS and late stage Cancer. You could have several different things going on many of us do. If they did a Neurological exam: reflexes, following the finger with your eyes, standing with your eyes closed, etc. it would show Neurological deficitrs better than a MRI. Do you by chance have what they call a butterfly Shape of a butterfly) rash on your face? That could be Lupus which can effect many parts of the body.
Avatar m tn Then I remembered a family friend who exhibited some of the same symptoms I was having and so I researched MS sites and boards and they all reflected much of what I was struggling with. Honestly, I can't say if what I have is MS or not but it certainly has some of the earmarks of it. The only thing right now is finding another doctor/opinion and more testing to narrow down what this is.
Avatar f tn Over the 10 years, I have experienced almost every symptom usually noted for ms. The symptoms that give me the most trouble are bladdar and bowel issues, cognitive issues, spasticity, fatigue and weakness. I also have some permanent vision loss in one eye due to optic neuritis. I was intrigued by the post "Lies my neuro told me" because depression was acknowledged as a symtom of ms, NOT just a reaction to it.
Avatar f tn Whilst I had strong reactions to the caloric test in my right ear (vertigo) - both warm and cold - I had virtually nothing in my left. Do these symptoms combined with double vision for the last 8 years suggest ms? I have also had several spells of forgetfulness including forgotteing the sentence I am saying, saying words the wrong way round (e.g., shoffee cop or coffee shop) and looking at an object and not being able to say it.

Avatar f tn MS can cause depression in two ways. First it can alter the brain. The damage or inflammation of the gray matter can cause a mood disorder. Also there is situational depression from having MS. Eating right and exercising if you can is important. Seeking out help. You might need antidepressants or the problem could be sleep related. Mine was both sleep related and and situational. I knew I needed help. I go to sleep and wake up at the same time, got help with pain so I could fall asleep.
Avatar f tn , I have many of the symptoms of MS and a recent MRI shows lesions LP no O bands, have had cluster headaches since I was 22 now they are chronic and no med so far has been able to relieve them....now my neuro says it maybe all depression. Frankly I find this impossible to accept given the long list of symptoms I have (too long to mention here unless asked).
Avatar f tn And if you do, how do you know it is not MS related? Now that I have MS it seems like my symptoms are always pointed to MS, causing me lots of tests and upset. I have such a large healthcare team that I barely remember my name. I realize that tests are important to make sure it is not caused by MS. Some days I just want to curl up into a hole and just not exist to answer the phone no more. I guess I want some feed back so I can stop worry about other issues besides MS.
Avatar n tn But I just read someplace that depression and mood swings can be part of MS. I am limited as to what I can take for depression. I can't take SSRIs and just tried a low dose of Wellbutrin which fiddled with my BP. Had to go off it. I inject Copaxone 20 mgs daily. Any thoughts? I just wish I could be happier and more motivated in spite of MS.

Avatar n tn t seem to really fit that diagnosis, so I still think I have a co-existing condition - not necessarily MS. I think it really is something that mimics MS. I have also been diagnosed with gluten intolerance which can produce some of the same symptoms. I know a month is a long time to wait to see the neurologist, but they are really helpful here on this board. Hang in there!
Avatar f tn Having medical professionals suggesting depression, anxiety, and/or somatoform disorder is NOT the same as being shrugged off. It's saying "we can't find a physical aetiology for your symptoms, but they are potentially consistent with other issues relating to mental health. What they are also NOT saying is, "ignore these symptoms. They're just in your head.
9745005 tn?1410044366 So if you read my last post, I made mention that the MS Neuro listed "symptoms of depression" on my medical notes which I was not happy with (irony noted). I had my video conference with the referring Neuro to go over the "findings" from the visit with the MS neuro and I questioned this added diagnosis and the possible implications of having that as "fact" from an observational stand point.
721523 tn?1331581802 Finally, many of the medications used in treating MS and its symptoms cause depression as a side effect. The first cause is the most important to understand. DEPRESSION IS A PRIMARY EFFECT OF MS The damage to the brain in Multiple Sclerosis often causes depression, just as directly as it causes optic neuritis or weakness. How this happens is not completely understood.
1149087 tn?1415316549 t know this for sure) that your depression has been a manifestation of MS all these years. Depression in MS can also be secondary, arising out of changes to our bodies and our lives, poor sleep, etc., but what I'm referring to now is primary depression. You may want to read up on that in terms of MS as well. I do hope your neuro isn't calling himself an MS specialist. I'm sure that in a big city like Melbourne there are doctors who really do know about MS.
1007423 tn?1251204456 I have finally been scheduled for a second opinion at Washington University's MS clinic. They sent me some paperwork to fill out, typical how do you feel kinds of things. There was also included a form to fill out (I can't remember the specific name) on depression...ie how depressed are you, are you depressed everyday, etc. Is this typical? I have been through this so long and for so long I have had many doctors try and blame it on depression or say it is all in my mind.
Avatar f tn Hello I am a 22 year old female. I suffer from depression and anxiety/panic attacks. I've had depression and anxiety for a long time but suppressed everything until now. I took a leave of absence from college and work because my depression and anxiety was getting so bad. I needed a break from everything and am currently seeking Cognitive Behavior Therapy. So, this is my story...I had a panic attack at work and freaked out and went to the ER.
Avatar f tn t having what I thought of as MS symptoms at the time. My PCP brought up MS before I even told him about that. I think whatever comes of the MRI, I will find another neurologist even though this one is considered one of the best & developed a software program to diagnose early onset Alzheimer's. Thank you for responding.
Avatar f tn He did have some vague symptoms for a while prior to the diagnosis, and he has an aunt who has MS. Husband also has Addison's disease. Agree with PastorDan, never have heard where depression causes lesions. Now lesions causing depression, so to speak...probably so, as getting a life changing diagnosis, can and often does cause depression to some extent. Last but not least, I think Laura gave excellent advice! I would find another Neurologist.
