multiple-sclerosis

1192745 tn?1287905858 I have not gone to the gym since the numbness began two weeks ago, assuming my dx is MS, how does exercise affect MS? Also, can anyone give me advice dietary do’s and don’ts.
382218 tn?1341181487 Exercise makes my feet and legs buzz like crazy, but I do it anyway. Keep it up. Can't say about the nose. My nose has never buzzed.
333672 tn?1273792789 ve read, reasonable exercise is supposed to be a good thing for MS (and my neuro seems to think so, too), but for those of you who exercise, how do you find that balance between babying yourself and overdoing it? I guess exercise is not supposed to be dangerous, but I worry.
627388 tn?1222198212 This is just a little info that I got from WebMD about exercise and MS...if you google WebMD and put MS and Exercise in the search engine there is a lot of information on this site that I think you will find helpful! Exercise & Multiple Sclerosis Exercise can help ease the symptoms of multiple sclerosis, but it's important to take certain precautions if you want your exercise program to be successful. The most important thing to remember is to not overdo it.
1116556 tn?1345115906 I also have a bowflex and recumbant exercise bike. Between these two I get my strength training and cardio workouts without having to kill myself. For the bike I use it in the pulse rate mode to get my heart up to the right level (it adjusts the amount of tension to keep it at the right level automatically). I use the bowflex for my leg exercises in order to keep being able to walk somewhat correctly.
1396846 tn?1332459510 I have taken the MS swim classes, but they are primarly for stretching and flexibility and not exercise to lose weight.
Avatar f tn Can I suggest that everyone find a heated (82-85 degree) pool and swim? It is absolutely the best exercise therapy for MS patients. Everyone can get in the water and move - even if you don't know how to swim. Local MS chapters often offer special water classes for MS patients. Also, there are exercise DVD's available on line that are adapted for special needs - look for Yoga for MS, TaiChi for MS, and other resources.
12832842 tn?1448728801 It took me a year at least. I even went for a second opinion and he said yep MS. Diet and exercise are good but because MS is neurological they can't stop it. That said I do both. I started exercise and a balanced diet after diagnosis because it was something I could do. With MS you can have other conditions such as perimenopause. Exercise and diet help that some what. I had no side effects on Copaxone. Remember with any medicine they have to tell you every side effect.
Avatar f tn We are all told exercise is good and should be encouraged in someone with MS. Im wondering if there is anyone out there who likes to jog and if they still are able to do this with MS. I find this is getting more and more difficult as the tingling, numbness and weird neuropathic feelings in my feet and legs seem to progressively get worse when I do this. Over the past couple of years these feelings come and go and have included spinal tingling if I looked to the gound.
5509293 tn?1428531475 I've experienced heat intolerance (Uhthoff's) for many years and as my sx's worsen, so has the negative effect of temperature changes (internal & external) temperatures, though i've not experienced L'hermittes. To be honest I was not sure if overheating could trigger L'hermittes, but MSF does mention 'overheating' so there must be an established connection.....
Avatar f tn Hi, m here after long time.. Which type of exercise should I do? I have ms and going to star avonex.
Avatar m tn Can i as if anyone knows if there is any possibility of damage to my thyroid from MS. I ask because i have long standing MS symptoms including muscle aches in arms, hands and legs along with severe and permanent loss of sensation in my thighs. My question is really concerning the likelihood a thyroid disorder. I am finding it very, very slow to shift my excess weight. I follow a strict diet and exercise program and over a six month period the weight is moving but very slowly.
Avatar m tn It's not uncommon to feel an increase in symptoms following exercise. Often this is due to Uhtoff's phenomenon and an increase in body temp. If you recover normal function once you've rested and cooled off, I see no reason why you shouldn't continue to exercise hard. Some people dx'ed with MS can run marathons.
572651 tn?1530999357 Exercise aggressively - with MS taking it slow and easy is not effective for our needs. Exercise for MS should be progressive at a reasonable pace - too much or too little exercise will not help. And often if the therapist writes in the insurance notes that the patient is not progressing, then the benefits will stop. 3. Exercise for MS needs a specific purpose - we need to identify the physical deficit and work specifically to correct that problem.
572651 tn?1530999357 MedHelp has an exercise and nutrition expert who is interested in MS and posted this information last month. I think I shared it at that time, but perhaps I didn't. I can't tell because no one from here joined in the conversation.. If you are inclined to learn more and think about MS and exercise in a different light, you might consider reading his post. You can access it at http://www.medhelp.
Avatar n tn I also appear to have become exercise intolerant where even 1/2 hour of mild exercise can make my symptoms worse for up to 48 hrs. There are times where my brain fog is severe and I have difficulty walking. My husband says I "lurch" around. We live in a small town and our local doctors have no answers as to what could be causing these symptoms. Does this sound like it could be something like MS or Lupus?
Avatar n tn severe nausea, tachycardia, muscle weakness/pain on the left side of my body, and lightheadedness. Most days I only have one of these symptoms at a time, and there are a couple rare days when I don't have any. At the moment, I am glad to finally have relief from my nausea and be able to eat again, but my arm and leg on my left side feel really weak and painful - like I've done wayy too much exercise in the gym (but only on one side of my body).

Avatar f tn I did HCG last srping and have not had any MS symptoms in almost a year...I had done research on HCG and the relation to the HYP gland and how that gland is harmed by MS. BUT I never thought it was so linked to MS since now. Hope your stillout here. would love to talk.
Avatar n tn I meant to ask what does the low diastolic withi my symptoms suggest? And is this really from just my weight?
Avatar f tn I have a friend that uses one of those pedal machines in her home where she can sit in any chair and just pedal while watching TV or whatever. She has MS and says it has been of great benefit for her. It probably has a more proper name I just don't know what it is. I am trying not to look back at the old me but it's hard. I too have balance issues and most of the time have to use a cane. My goal is to lose the cane and be independant again.
