763362 tn?1236624790 I have been referred to Physio and had an initial assesment where the consultant said that it looks like Degenerative Disc Disease, he said the only way to determine this better is by having an MRI scan, on going back to my G.P.
Avatar m tn gotto wait for mri,but consultant said he was not concerned about my weight loss or blood test.what could it be.
Avatar f tn Diagnosing FM is a diagnosis of exclusion, there is no blood test that diagnoses FM, no MRI/CT Scan, symptoms of FM are similiar to other medical disorders, so once these are excluded FM is left. Do you have the 'tender points' associated with FM? (here is a website that shows where on the body they are if you are unfamiliar : http://www.fibromyalgia-symptoms.org/fibromyalgia_diagnosis.html ) Have you ever had an EMG?
Avatar m tn Perhaps I am misinformed but I thought that a CT scan was used to get a calcium score and not an MRI. That said were these tests run by your physician? Calcium results only tell you where the calcium is deposited. What was your calcium score? You will need to do an angiogram to see if there is reduction in blood flow. This is why many of us have had a CT angiogram. Calcium score and visulaiztion of blood flow. Hope this helps.
5739095 tn?1374690666 Hey ladies i hav a question an it may be a silly one but im a first time mom so im just curious if you been told the same thing... They have told me NOT to carry young children now that im pregnant... Anyone else???
1556140 tn?1311846527 Hi all I have been having severe one sided headaches for just over a year, I had a clear CT scan and have just had an MRI but am still waiting for results. Just recently i have started to get neck pain, and horrible vertigo type symptoms whenever i move my head, esp when i look up, i also find that lifting my daughter (2yrs) causes everything to spin and makes the headache worse.
Avatar n tn To diagnose the underlying cause and origin of vertigo in children, an MRI or CT scan of the brain and skull are usually recommended. In addition, your child also undergo a complete physical and examination by a physician with special focus on a test known as the Dix-Hallpike maneuver which will help to narrow the complication into either nerve damage or brainstem involvement.
Avatar f tn old, has sensory processing problems, auditory processing problems, is nonverbal, has hypotonia, hyperopic, and were told his head size is below average. We had a cat scan---normal, MRI---normal. Genetic testing --negative. Our Nuerologist has no answers. I haven't been able to find other kids w/ this combo of same problems. He doesn't seem to fit into any single diagonsis. Where can I find info on the best course of therapies for him?
Avatar f tn I wish I could help more but it seems an MRI is needed to see the condition of your liver and your brain. The ultra sound will diagnose the condition of your liver and is something that can be performed right away. Sometimes it can take a while for an MRI but is worth mentioning to your doctor. This Testing should have been done a long time ago when the migraines began. Do not allow your health to be put on hold. You have serious issues that need prompt attention. Take good care of yourself.

Avatar n tn I have a 7 year old daughter with HCM, with a very thick septum (4.0 on MRI) and no symptoms--due to her septum size, she's recommended for an ICD--but we find that's very rare in young children and that she would need it through her abdomen. It is her only risk factor at this time-although a big one.... Any thoughts from others? Experiences? Docs/places that do the most of these WITH HCM folks? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Yes, you need that mri scan, if only to rule out any spine/disc damage. BUT, If it shows nothing that could cause you so much pain, check out piriformis syndrome (PS), especially because you have shooting glute pain. PS is rare, and rarely mentioned, but it is the cause of at least 6% of sciatica , which causes shooting pain. Hope everything calms down soon. Take care.
Avatar n tn As doctors advise on taking CT Scan and MRI repeatedly for a children of 6 years old during diagonosis process, would there be any side effects to a child undergoing such exposures?
Avatar f tn What is the next action for you? I had an MRI scan after the ultrasound, as they could see my cyst was totally solid, and the MRI then showed it to be a dermoid cyst (I understand dermoids are quite common and are usually benign - mine was). I then saw the gynaecologist and was then booked in for a laparotomy (open surgery) to remove the cyst and also my ovary, as it turned out. I had that done on 6th January and am now back at work.
Avatar f tn But I really admire young mums! It also means by the time they have all grown up you will still be young!
Avatar n tn My 2 yr. old had thought she was superman and went head first into the corner of my entertainment center, which comes to a very sharp point. She had split her forehead open and was rushed to er. Well they didn't scan her or suture her. They just through the dermabond on and sent her home. Well, sense then she was having onset head pains. And now she had an MRI and the radiologist said that she has flair intensity on several different parts of her brain. Can anyone tell me what that means?
Avatar f tn When I told her doctor that she had a seizure she said she was worried about her having something in her brain causing this then I told her she had an mri and ct scan that were normal she said she was lesd worried about it being something like a tumor. She also sees a neurologist and I told her what her doctor thought and she said it couldn't be that because her MRI was normal. Her neurologist thinks she has bening rolandic epilepsy but she will not medicate her until she has an EEG.
Avatar f tn he had a CT scan and now doc wants a MRI, but will not tell me what was seen on CT scan. I know Chiari is rare so could both of my sons have it? Thank you in advance!
945553 tn?1245931621 You will want a PET scan, that is for soft tissue (spread to lungs, organs, etc.) and mri to check your bones. You are way too young not to be pro-active here- there is no such thing as too many test when it comes to metastasized cancer. You have to take care of you, and you may have to fight the insurance companies occasionally to do it. Believe me, they turn you down, call again, and again, until your tests are approved. It is your one life, they will give in, but only to the squeaky wheel.
Avatar m tn Hi Selma, thank you for replying to my post. Yes his 1st surgery was bony decompression and when that did not work they did the dura plasty. His last MRI was in Feb 2012. After his 2nd surgery, he did have a CSF leak which was taken care of. He has had an MRI for his spine in June 2011. Would the other conditions show up on that? He's also severely anemic and that could be caused by the epileptic med he's on. FYI, we live in the Atlanta area. Any thoughts on the specialists here?
Avatar m tn I then had my most recent scan on 10th June 2016 and today received a letter with my results. The letter says. The young ladys MRI brain scan has shown no changes since her preivous scan in January 2015. A few bright spots were noted in the parietal lobes and these have not changed in any way. No new bright lesions have been seen. The radiologist commented that the foci high signal in the parietal lobes may actually be developmental in origin.

Avatar f tn A MRI uses only magnetism and no x-rays. It also produces better images than a ct scan. So i would suggest a MRI. The risks associated with a MRI are very small and shouldn't be a cause to worry. I don't want to go against your doc. But since it is such a serious pain and he is so young I would feel more comfortable with a brain mri being done. But maybe your doc is skilled enough to rule out intracranial diseases anyway. Does he get pain when jumping or shaking his head too?
Avatar f tn Does a CAT scan detet aballoned artery in yor brain or is a MRI bette for that, becaue I have een having pain n the left side of my head all the way down to my neck.
Avatar n tn Inflammatory abnormalities in the brain are also assessed with MRI scans. In children with neurologic Lyme disease, the MRI may reveal white matter hyperintensities suggestive of ***inflammation*** or areas of demyelination. Up to 40% of adults with Lyme disease may also have small white matter hyperintensities, but it should be noted that the number of hyperintensities increase with age – even among patients who do not have Lyme disease.
