mri-scan

763362 tn?1236624790 I have been referred to Physio and had an initial assesment where the consultant said that it looks like Degenerative Disc Disease, he said the only way to determine this better is by having an MRI scan, on going back to my G.P.
Avatar m tn Yes, an MRI can produce images radio waves and unlike conventional x-ray examinations and computed tomography (CT) scans, MRI does not depend on ionizing radiation. It seems, generally, the differentiation of abnormal tissue from normal tissue is often better with MRI then x-ray, CT and echo. But the state-of-art CT scan, slice 64 and higher has reduced radiation. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn When having a Hida scan, Do you lay in a machine such as the one of an MRI or what?
Avatar m tn I had a bad auto accident in Nov and after x-rays and CTon my neck A MRI was recomended. My family doc put me off work and told me not to put myself in any position to slip and fall ao hit in the head. The MRI results show the following. APdiameter of the canal at 2-3 is only 11mm. There is a reversal of normal Lordosis. moderate narrowing of the CSF space around the cord and all levels 2-7 have moderate canal narrowing along with foramina narrowing.
Avatar m tn I want to say something about the MRI and with the help of MRI you can easily get the information about the scapula. In many cases MRI gives information about structures in the body that can't be seen as well with an X-ray, ultrasound, or CT scan. MRI can find changes in the structure of organs or other tissues. It also can find tissue damage or disease, such as infection or a tumor. So this is better than the X-ray or CT Scan.
Avatar n tn They can however, detect mental illness such as scitzophreneia which i know because i was diagnosed through an MRI. The only mental illness an MRI scan able detect is an actually different brain connections than that of a normal brain. Ive had one done for mental illess! Can you describe some of your symptoms, what you feel and how often yolou feel it? I know your question is based on needing to know where to get a private MRI scan, which i am unsure of!!
Avatar f tn Can anyone tell me about the PET scan? I know its a machine similiar to an MRI...? My mom has to have one tomorrow. She is extremely claustrophobic--and not a small woman...not big overweight-but not small. On top of being terrified of the results (she has invasive lobular carcinoma..and dr is cking to see if its spread) ...shes really nervous about this scan. Is the machine completely enclosed? Very small? How long does a total scan take? Her Dr prescribed her valium...
Avatar f tn How necessary is it to have a CT head scan for having one possible simple partial seizure two months ago? I saw a neurologist who suggested I have the scan, but he did admit another neurologist might have said it was okay to wait and see if it happened again. He left the decision up to me. I'm worried about the x-rays of a CT scan, having had plenty of x-rays for other procedures in the past. If I have another seizure or whatever it was, I would definitely have a scan.
Avatar f tn Ok, thanks for your answer. Best regards!
Avatar f tn She has had x-rays and an Mri. x-rays are negative for a break. Mri showed everything is ok. The doctor said it is a bone bruise. On he Mri it showed white in the middle of the elbow joint. The doc noticed that her inside one (bone) is out a little farther than the other one. He took her restrictions off and told her to use it and is going to put her in physical therapy. The more she uses it the more it hurts and the joint swells up. If she doesnt use it it is ok.
Avatar n tn I was thinking about it and thought to myself (and my partner) and decided it can wait until after the baby comes! id never have forgiven myself if I had gone and anything went wrong!
443136 tn?1210536325 When I was a baby, probably about a year old, I had a CT scan, or an x-ray (can't remember which one) of my head. Then, last year, I had a CT scan done of my head again on 5/31/07. They found a 2 ml lipoma (fatty tissue). They didn't think much of it, so on 6/18/07, I had an MRI done on my head. I know MRI's don't use radiation or anything, but still. Anyway, if you read some of my other questions, you'll see my list of symptoms I've been having.
375373 tn?1492342401 Hello, how do I know after how long a certain x-ray or MRI done once can be given to another doctor for a 2nd opinion without my having to take them again? It seems nowadays physicians rely more on ordering MULTIPLE radiographs and I'd like to avoid an overexposure, even if gradually. What I hope to know is, up to how many months is, say, a hip joint x-ray good for diagnosis? Also, the same question for a head and neck MRIs? Google didn't give me any answer at all...
Avatar f tn I then had an upper GI, which showed GERD, so I was referred to a gastroenterologist. He has since ordered an EGD, a CT scan, and an MRI, all of which were negative for everything except a small cyst on my liver, which he said is not what is causing my pain. I asked about a HIDA scan, but he said that he is "not a fan" of them because if it comes back abnormal it doesn't really mean anything. Also, my lipase level is slightly elevated at 421.
Avatar n tn What you can do is watch out for nausea, vomiting, headaches, flashes of light, unsteady gait, excess sleep, tremors, seizures etc as these are signs of head injury. Ideally a CT scan or MRI of the head should be done. Take care!
Avatar f tn It sounds like they suspect inflammationn in the lung. You should request an MRI rather than a cat. The MRI is far less dangerous and shows up everything you might want to see. The CAT, which uses x-ray radiation, is an obsolete machine. The "snow storm" could be mucus or fluid, or remnants of an infection. Pain and shortness of breath are consistent with such a problem.
Avatar f tn I went and saw my family doctor about my migraines and he decided to refer me to a neurologist and asked that I get a CT scan. While waiting for the neurologist to get to me, now the nurse calls me and say that I need a MRI before going to see the neurologist. There was no mention of the MRI prior to this phone call and I wanted to make sure that this is necessary. I don't have money to waste! ;) Doesn't a MRI and CT scan basically do the same thing?
Avatar n tn t have lesions seen on MRI of the brain, but there might be lesions on the spine or lesions not detected through MRI. MRI is excellent for viewing soft tissue abnormalities. X-ray or CT scan are excellent for viewing bones.
Avatar m tn The vice versa is true for MRI. MRI can produce images in any plane but CT scan cannot. CT scan uses X-ray imaging whereas MRI uses radio waves and magnets. Radiation exposure is moderate in CT scan and there is no radiation exposure in MRI. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else. Take care!
Avatar n tn A small nodular opacity was found on the upper right side of my lung area. The ER didn't seem too worried as he said most of these granular opacities and the way it looked from radiation dept report sounded like it wasn't malignant. He said a CT Scan or MRI was too early and to wait 2 months (my main dr, who is an internist and cardiologist said 4 months??) and let it grow because it was too small?!!!
Avatar f tn An ultrasound is not supposed to be performed "just because". It is a medical procedure just as x-ray, CT scan, MRI, bloodwork, etc are medical procedures. Valid medical reasons are required and must be ordered by doc, PA, CRNP.
Avatar f tn You can have an ultrasound done its perfectly safe its simular to them scanning your to see your baby so request an ultrasound not a CT, also an MRI scan is safe they would weight you to make sure they done over scan you just for the sake of your health even though theres no risks, ive had an MRI a couple weeks ago and it was fine, sorry i cant help on the stomach ulcers situation but i do advice getting an ultrasound done, good luck hope your ok
Avatar f tn ve now been reading all kinds of articles on the internet (written by medical professionals) and it seems a CT head scan gives a mega dose of dangerous x-rays. There are differences of opinion among medical professionals but some say even just one CT head scan is risky and should not be undergone unless absolutely necessary. I do not know if benefit outweighs risk in my case, especially as I'm worrying myself sick now as to the safety of having it.
Avatar f tn My sister who is early 30s just found out she has a heavily calcified meningioma, We don’t know what it is, she had an mri for headaches and then they rushed her for a ct scan after the mri , the conclusion was left tentorium cerebilli extra axel lesion measuring 6x 5.5 x , heavily calcified menengioma. This was the mri results. The ct scan was the same. We are all really scared abs worried, I don’t want anything to happen to my sister, does anyone know what this is? Or how it’s treated?
