Mri scan vs ct scan

Common Questions and Answers about Mri scan vs ct scan

mri-scan

Avatar n tn In general, bone scans are a more precise test to measure bone damage when compared to CT scan but no test is perfect. It is true that bone scan may be less precise in lytic lesions and in these cases MRI or PET may be done. Depending upon which part of the spine was included in the MRI, some of the pelvic bones may be in the image. You may benefit from another discussion with your doctor regarding the type of pain you are having as not all pain represents bone pain.
Avatar f tn I went and saw my family doctor about my migraines and he decided to refer me to a neurologist and asked that I get a CT scan. While waiting for the neurologist to get to me, now the nurse calls me and say that I need a MRI before going to see the neurologist. There was no mention of the MRI prior to this phone call and I wanted to make sure that this is necessary. I don't have money to waste! ;) Doesn't a MRI and CT scan basically do the same thing?
212161 tn?1599427282 they are going to do a ct-scan to see if i have a tumor in my head, can the ct see same as a mri. will it see all they need to see.
Avatar n tn I've had multiple CT's done, an MRI, and one PET/CT Scan. My gyn/onc in OH recommended it (the PET/CT Scan) and my gyn where I live in NC ordered it. My insurance company wouldn't approve the procedure because they said that it was still considered experimental for monitoring OVCA. Believe it or not, my gyn helped me get it done with no charge to me! The scan showed no cancer so it did ease my mind quite a bit, especially about the cyst I had on my ovary at the time.
Avatar m tn Hello, I have been experiencing significant chest pain and other various symptoms for the past year and a half, I am scheduled to get a CT scan of my chest this week but am concerned about the radiation. Do you know if an MRI can provide the same graphics? Your answer would be greatly appreciated.
1831846 tn?1318378596 on the 18th of this month, where I will be demanding an MRI and referral to a specialist. But the CT scan states no evidence of intracranial hemorrhage, ventricular system is normal in size and configuration, withough evidence of hydrocephalus. No discrete parenchymal masses nor evidence of mass effect. There is a slight inferior displacement of the cerebellar tonsils, suggesting a mild chiari 1 malformation. No extra-axial blood or fluid collections are identified.
Avatar n tn the CT Scan remarks were that it could possibly be a benign hemangioma and that an MRI was recommmended to confirm this. I had the MRI w/o contrast (couldn't stay in the machine long enough to get the contrast too) The results confirmed a benign hemangioma. Did they mention to you that that is what your lesions could be? If so...try not to worry. 1CM is not large...perhaps it's just a hemangioma you're dealing with. Do you have any symptom...pain etc? Get the MRI done....
Avatar f tn The CT scan I had of my chest says that on only one image my aorta is 4 cm. My cardiologist says that because the way the CT cuts the images at an angle one could get a reading larger than what it is. We will do a MRI in June. Has anyone else heard of this? Wouldn't an aneurysm show up on the other angles of the CT scan and not just one image?
8248259 tn?1397372067 I'm not sure I understand your question ... you've had an MRI since your initial CT scan that you were diagnosed from? So they should have a good idea of your condition. I have a pacemaker. It's MRI safe but only one machine in a 60 mile radius can scan me and it's EXPENSIVE (about $1600) so I had a CT after surgery instead, and it gave my neurosurgeon the information he needed. To a good neurosurgeon, neurologist, neuroradiologist, both are fine ...
215289 tn?1253623341 just had a ct scan today, and was wondering how long the results would be? if there was anything majorly wrong would they have said anything there and then?
Avatar f tn oh i also have frequent colds and infections, bruise easy, cuts take a long time to heal, tired alot, sometimes i have bone pain, had a bone scan show hot spots in my sternum and mri was clear, im so fustrated about all of this i want to scream i feel like no one is listening to me
1545021 tn?1322477485 Usually contrast is given if there is a history of tumor, cancer or surgery, infection or inflammation, to evaluate blood vessels and to investigate a finding on the pre contrast part of the scan. Though MRI contrast is safer than that of CT, the common side effects possible are allergic reactions, flushing, hives, shortness of breath etc. Hope this helps. Take care.
2202709 tn?1338755799 Thanks i think it was because my gp asked for mri but when i went to A+E the doctor there said he rush an ct scan. im hoping they will do the ct then an mri.
Avatar f tn At my follow-up with my GP today, he asked if they discussed the abnormalities in my CT scan. It seems there is a lump in my left breast. My gp has ordered a mamo, ultrasound and mri. I am 50 years old and my last mamo was 13 months ago. How worried should I be?
541844 tn?1244309824 I doubt CT scan would be indicated for garden variety HCV unless a U/S scan detected an anomaly; at least this was the position of both my treating doctors, Bill
700067 tn?1332989283 I went in to the PCP today because my pain has gotten worse and this morning I lost control of my bowels. (I am still waiting to see the Chiari specialist.) She sent me over to the hospital for a CT scan and it came back "normal." I know that most people have MRIs and the Cine Flow MRI. Can a CT scan really be helpful? I was hoping she would get me a MRI of my spine since so far I've only had my brain looked at. She did give me gab for the pain.
