Mri scan vs cat scan

Common Questions and Answers about Mri scan vs cat scan

mri-scan

Avatar m tn has anyone had a cat scan recommended with contrast, after treatment with alpha 2a & ribavirin? i do not want any contrast medium injected into me & i don't want all the radiation of 3 yrs of background exposure. i am considering a fibroscan. my dr says without using the contrast dye, the ct is worthless. i had 11 months of treatment for 1b hep c. i had 2 blood transfusions in 1982. had a liver bx 2007 under general, before my treatment.
Avatar n tn I understand these should be avoided while pregnant, but what if they are medically necessary? Has anyone gotten an MRI or Cat Scan while pregnant? What was the outcome, did it have an affect on your baby? Was it worth it? I have been experiencing agonizing pain in my left shoulder, neck, and arm, that sometimes radiates to my chest, making it hard to breathe. I am having a really hard time sleeping, and even functioning, and my quality of life has gone down because of it.
Avatar n tn A CT scan alone may not determine ALS. It is difficult to diagnose with simply one test.
Avatar f tn This is my first post here. A few weeks ago I had a CAT scan done and my doctor told me they found a pituitary microadenoma 4X4X6 mm. I just got a copy of the results and it says "possible microadenoma 4X4x6". I'm just confused why they put possible on the repost, is that to cover a mistake? I also have the disc & the doctor showed me the tumor. Plus all of my symptoms that I'm having are no doubt related to the tumor.
Avatar n tn She is scheduled for an MRI based on the results of the CAT scan. The MRI is scheduled for March and the appt. with the neurologist is set for the week after the MRI. she has also been referred to an Ear/nose/throat specialist as they say that the blood vessels and veins in her nose are "fragile & bulging". The pediatrician printed out a copy of the CAT scan report for us.
Avatar f tn Can anyone tell me about the PET scan? I know its a machine similiar to an MRI...? My mom has to have one tomorrow. She is extremely claustrophobic--and not a small woman...not big overweight-but not small. On top of being terrified of the results (she has invasive lobular carcinoma..and dr is cking to see if its spread) ...shes really nervous about this scan. Is the machine completely enclosed? Very small? How long does a total scan take? Her Dr prescribed her valium...
Avatar n tn They can however, detect mental illness such as scitzophreneia which i know because i was diagnosed through an MRI. The only mental illness an MRI scan able detect is an actually different brain connections than that of a normal brain. Ive had one done for mental illess! Can you describe some of your symptoms, what you feel and how often yolou feel it? I know your question is based on needing to know where to get a private MRI scan, which i am unsure of!!
541844 tn?1244309824 I doubt CT scan would be indicated for garden variety HCV unless a U/S scan detected an anomaly; at least this was the position of both my treating doctors, Bill
Avatar f tn It sounds like they suspect inflammationn in the lung. You should request an MRI rather than a cat. The MRI is far less dangerous and shows up everything you might want to see. The CAT, which uses x-ray radiation, is an obsolete machine. The "snow storm" could be mucus or fluid, or remnants of an infection. Pain and shortness of breath are consistent with such a problem.
Avatar f tn Well instead of doing an MRI on my husband because of the nodule they did another cat scan. The said there is one 12mm smooth nodule on his lower right lobe so now they are going to do a PET scan, he's having that done on the 20th. I am confused. Why the PET scan do they suspect cancer?? From reading the different posts I was under the impression that they do a cat scan every 6 mos. to monitor the nodule. Is the fact that the Dr. requested a PET scan bad news?
Avatar f tn Once again, my position regarding an MRI vs. a CAT does not reflect the opinion of the majority of physicians in the medical community, nor the hospitals who sponsor this website. Do your own research and come to your own conclusions.
Avatar n tn It is my understanding that the CAT scan can not pick up certain things and I am concernd about a tumor being missed because I can not obtain an MRI. Can you please comment on the differences between a CAT scan and an MRI and how concerned I should be about not being able to obtain an MRI? Can you suggest the best way to proceed with getting a diagnosis given the complications of having a defibrillator?
Avatar f tn I went and saw my family doctor about my migraines and he decided to refer me to a neurologist and asked that I get a CT scan. While waiting for the neurologist to get to me, now the nurse calls me and say that I need a MRI before going to see the neurologist. There was no mention of the MRI prior to this phone call and I wanted to make sure that this is necessary. I don't have money to waste! ;) Doesn't a MRI and CT scan basically do the same thing?
Avatar n tn and yes it most definitetly be used safely Unfortunatly as far as I know a cat scan is not as accurate as an MRI but does give the doctors good necessary info.
Avatar f tn I am sorry you are having those symptoms and your ca 125 has gone up. If you can afford it I would choose a Pet scan. An MRI or Cat scan just covers a certain part of your body. A Pet scan covers your whole body and I think the cancer shows up better due to the contrast they use. If there is cancer anywhere in your body it will light up. It gives me more peace of mind. There are other things that can cause your ca 125 to go up and you are still in the normal range.
Avatar n tn Her Ca125 fell to 20 .A pet scan at the end of nov showed one small area of activity in the left paracolic border. A cat scan performed at MD Anderson two weeks later showed multiple small nodules in the omentem and chest .her ca 125 continues to be 20 and she is asymptommatic. She just started on a rx of Gemzar and cisplatin. I am a physician and can not reconsile the results of the pet scan and the ca125 with the results of the cat.Is there a minum size for the leisons to show up on pet.
212161 tn?1599427282 can anyone tell me the differences in the ct-scan and mri. they are going to do a ct-scan to see if i have a tumor in my head, can the ct see same as a mri. will it see all they need to see.
Avatar n tn What does it mean when a brain cat scan says "patchy decreased attenuation in the periventricular white matter' ? my mother was on a brief does of an antipsychotic . Is this recovery from this?
Avatar m tn Keep in mind, too, the CAT scan is several hundred dollars cheaper than an MRI. Also, depending on which way they send you through the tube, MRI is somewhat claustrophobic. And don't wear any toe rings in the MRI. Smile.
Avatar n tn An MRI or CAT scan? I only have catastrophic insurance and so far have not paid on my deductible. I do not want to have to pay $500.00 for a CAT scan for them to now tell me to do an MRI, that's $1500.00. Can a CAT scan tell if it is a tumour versus a fatty cyst? My cholesterol jumped from from 200 to 266 in one year with no change in diet either. Would a fatty cyst raise enzymes way beyond normal range? I hope you will respond to my questions.
Avatar f tn Does a CAT scan detet aballoned artery in yor brain or is a MRI bette for that, becaue I have een having pain n the left side of my head all the way down to my neck.
