Common Questions and Answers about Mri scan uses

mri-scan

Avatar m tn The vice versa is true for MRI. MRI can produce images in any plane but CT scan cannot. CT scan uses X-ray imaging whereas MRI uses radio waves and magnets. Radiation exposure is moderate in CT scan and there is no radiation exposure in MRI. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else. Take care!
Avatar m tn Tests like CT,Chest Xray,Biopsy,MRI are done on the patient. These equipment use computers which uses the software that is supportive for the machinery. For .example if You take a CT scan to search for lung cancer the software system utilizes different angles to view the lung fields in many dimensions.3D lung reconstruction uses Improved Ray Casting Algorithm which provides information for diagnosing respiratory problems.
Avatar f tn CT uses radiation to make these pictures and MRI uses magnetic field.... which one is better ? definitely MRI without "gandolinium" contrast-- pictures are sharp and tumors are well defined and it's SAFE. All contrasts CT or MRI are hard on your kidneys...but your doctor will tell you that " benefits will outweigh the risk". Google gandolinium and read about pros and cons of using it and same for CT contrast.
Avatar m tn CT scan uses an isotope in your blood so it will not be an issue. MRI is a different matter because it uses high power magnets and these make metallic objects in the body get very hot. However, with MRI if you make the technicians aware, they can reduce the intensity.
Avatar f tn I went and saw my family doctor about my migraines and he decided to refer me to a neurologist and asked that I get a CT scan. While waiting for the neurologist to get to me, now the nurse calls me and say that I need a MRI before going to see the neurologist. There was no mention of the MRI prior to this phone call and I wanted to make sure that this is necessary. I don't have money to waste! ;) Doesn't a MRI and CT scan basically do the same thing?
Avatar n tn As doctors advise on taking CT Scan and MRI repeatedly for a children of 6 years old during diagonosis process, would there be any side effects to a child undergoing such exposures?
Avatar f tn http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_resonance_imaging The above link tells you pretty much everything you didn't want to know about MRIs. I had a brain MRI one time, I had to be sedated because I was afraid of it, they even have a little mirror in there so you can see out of it, sort of claustrophobic in the machine, and they had a microphone and radio in there so I could talk to the techs. When the machine started up, it was VERY loud, surprised me, kind of made a bumping racket.
Avatar n tn An MRI uses no radiation whatsoever. The scan in done by way of magnets creating the images. There is nothing to worry about when it comes to your baby.
Avatar m tn A magnetic resonance angiogram (MRA) is a type of magnetic resonance image (MRI) scan that uses a magnetic field and pulses of radio wave energy to provide pictures of blood vessels inside the body
Avatar f tn Also see if you can get a bone scan in the past I had a stress fracture that did not show up on a MRI but did show up on a bone scan. Go with your gut. And by the way when I did find a good surgeon and he did surgery my ligaments were very lax from chronic sprains-- even though the MRI said my ligaments looked normal.
Avatar f tn It sounds like they suspect inflammationn in the lung. You should request an MRI rather than a cat. The MRI is far less dangerous and shows up everything you might want to see. The CAT, which uses x-ray radiation, is an obsolete machine. The "snow storm" could be mucus or fluid, or remnants of an infection. Pain and shortness of breath are consistent with such a problem.
Avatar f tn m currently debating whether or not to get a CT scan of my kidneys (similar risks to MRI)...because they saw several kidney stones on an ultrasound and they want to make sure that none of the stones are big enough to require surgery, but it is of course risky....I've opted not to take the CT scan until/if my pain gets too excruciating. all tests during pregnancy are a matter of weighing risk vs. benefit...
Avatar f tn The alternative to MRI for those with metal in the body is CAT scan -- it uses xray instead of magnetic energy, and is also high-resolution (unlike straight xray).
Avatar n tn I had a brain mri scan for recurrent 'auras' thought to be due to migraine. The result of the scan came back normal except for a few spots of plaques. I am 50, is this normal? I am concerned that it is indicative of early degeneration associated with dementia.
Avatar n tn They can however, detect mental illness such as scitzophreneia which i know because i was diagnosed through an MRI. The only mental illness an MRI scan able detect is an actually different brain connections than that of a normal brain. Ive had one done for mental illess! Can you describe some of your symptoms, what you feel and how often yolou feel it? I know your question is based on needing to know where to get a private MRI scan, which i am unsure of!!
Avatar n tn my wife had a mri scan on her neck the result came back as follows mri on the C- spine showd minor degenerative changes with a normal spinal cord there disc lesion at C6/C7 which corrugates the postrior longitudinal ligament by the spinal cord .
Avatar f tn Is it necessary to have more than one MRI scan done. I have only ever had the one scan, 15 yrs ago which was when I was given my official dx, despite having several episodes/relapses since. Initially told I had RRMS now being told I have SPMS with relapses.
763362 tn?1236624790 I have been referred to Physio and had an initial assesment where the consultant said that it looks like Degenerative Disc Disease, he said the only way to determine this better is by having an MRI scan, on going back to my G.P.
Avatar m tn i have had done mri scan done it shows one small disc is moved but doctor said to me is not worth to operate he recommend massage of spine and back muscles.my gp will send me to neurology to check nerve system but im still concern about doctors in uk .
Avatar n tn Should I have an MRI scan it will set me back a lot of money..... Could something really be wrong> I do not know wat was in my E even if it gave me an MDMA feeling.
