1303966 tn?1296740010 Has anyone had any experience with an upright MRI? I was reading that these MRI's are being used more to diagnose Chiari. These MRI's make sense, because Chiari symptoms are worse when upright rather than laying down. At least in my case they are. Maybe the tonsils are not as low when laying down, and when upright the tonsils are lower, or causing more trouble???
Avatar f tn If the Doctor meant he/she can see plenty of space around the floating tonsils then you also have to remember the MRI is a positional imaging scan. If you feel pain when upright, but they scan you flat on your back it can miss something important. Selma had it right, get a Doctor who knows Chiari to look it over. Nothing is more scary then knowing you know more about your medical condition then the Doctor who is treating you.
Avatar f tn I had my NL appt already and she said my MRI was unchanged compared to the one 2 years ago, however she didnt go over the scan or report at all with me so I picked it up out of curiousity. On my 1st MRI (laying down one) my measurement was 10mm. This MRI (upright) it says 1.2cm. In my opinion.. that would be considered a CHANGE! Is that something to be concerned with?!
Avatar f tn She had severe problems/pain when sitting upright/holding the head in upright position, at the end of March she could sit up at most 7 hours in a row, then it snapped. The pain was and is located on the left side of facial cranium, in the root of the nose and in the structures behind the nose. During this spring and summer the situation has been totally consistent.
Avatar f tn Doctor did however order MRI due to previous history of brain MRI showing bone marrow changes (reconversion). My question is how can finding this cyst be "incidental" when the CT was clearly done for the headaches? And how can it be considered not the cause of my headaches when the main symptom of these cyst is headache? My other symptoms are nausea, vomiting, double vision, loss of coordination during the intense headaches.
Avatar f tn I went to dr and they did many test, xray of lumbar-suggested mri. Had mri - bilaterial pars defect, ann. radial tears l/3,l4,l5,s1- moderate. Did physical therapy- no help saw neurosurgeon - he said problems were from fracture(bilaterial pars defect) needed surgery.Cant have anthesia so got second opinion-he said I was basicly faking but ordered a ct scan and put in his report that with surgery there was a high failure rate of good functional outcome.
Avatar m tn I was in a car crash in august but i had a MRI and a CAT SCAN done that showed no prolbems. Most of the time if i sit up for a few minutes it goes away but as soon as i start bending over again its back. This only happens when i bend over. There are many roofers that bend over all day long and have no prolbems i was one of them.. I cant figure out why any ideas?

Avatar n tn MRI (lumbar) and bone scan; all negative results. Question: the pain is real; where do I go next?
Avatar n tn A CT scan alone may not determine ALS. It is difficult to diagnose with simply one test.
Avatar f tn Hi, we don't recommend Drs or do referrals, but we can give you a listing for you to use to research Drs, and out list is compiled by the members here of Drs they have been to, treated by and liked.....I did post MA Drs in your other thread-https://www.medhelp.

Avatar f tn Hi, thanks for your reply. The MRI and CT scan came out fine. As i stated i am working on my migraines with my Dr. and have been for the past seven years. As far as the drainage it is very difficult to collect. I am not sure my question was answered though ... i am wondering if there is any link between my nasal drainage and possible puncture from my epidural and any link between those and my migraines? Also, how would i check to see if in fact there is a puncture in my spine?
Avatar f tn Hi, many feel that gravity plays a role in pulling down on our herniations when we r upright and that can not be seen when we lay down for a MRI...some herniations and obstructions r clear, but for some it may be difficult to see if the herniation is smaller. EDS can be done by the NL doing a Beighton scale test....they check for hypermobility. Have u had a CINE MRI?
Avatar f tn Very bummed. Dr. Henderson won't see me without a geneticist report or diagnosis of Chiari. What a catch 22! My MRI came back as "normal". It was a supine MRI and not upright. My symptoms are more pronounced with I'm upright, but my neurologist didn't understand this and didn't know what an upright MRI was when I asked for the MRI. So I had one supine and its "normal".
Avatar f tn Hi, How are you? Were you able to have imaging studies such as MRI or CT scan? This could also be due to Intracranial hypotension which is caused by the leakage of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), also presents with severe headache when upright, which is relieved when lying flat, nausea, vomiting, double vision and difficulty with concentration. MRI may help identify the site of any spinal CSF leak. Discuss this with your doctor for proper evaluation.
Avatar n tn Everyone is stumped that he was fine before the first MRI and had instant neck pain right after the first MRI and that the pain is positional--happening only when sitting upright. It seems that something is wrong with the shunt, but the MRI showed no problems with it. He cannot go home until his neck pain is gone. Please help, thank you.
Avatar m tn My husband started off with a dull headache for a week. Went to the doctor she said he had fluid in the ears. No fever. She order a CT scan to make sure the headache wasn't neurological. Next morning when he got out of bed the pain (head and Neck) was so bad when he was standing he had to lay back down. The pain goes away when he lays down. Before we left for to go get the CT scan he was sitting in the chair for a few minutes and starting to throw up.
Avatar f tn The idea behind teh upright MRI is gravity may be pulling the tonsils down further then what shows on a traditional MRI where u r lying down, and this may cause more of an obstruction when upright which we spend most of our day upright,... Good that it is a recent one, but know the medical professionals tend to move forward slowly so until all is said and done u may redo that MRI again at some point.
Avatar f tn most times this is done supine as well and if there is a blockage it will show regardless if you are upright for the MRI.
Avatar n tn Dr did lumbar puncture for menigititis , my son laid still for 2 hours afterward, upon being discharged, I dressed him , put his shoes on , and told him to go sit in chair from the bed, he gets down , walks like old man , all hunched over shuffling his feet , complaining of his back hurting, i called for nurse , who got the DR and they ordered a cat scan , where they found out he had a bulging disc in between l4 and l5 , RIGHT where they did the lumbar puncture.
Avatar m tn hi, the front of my right thigh keeps going numb when I am in an upright position. I had a ct lumbar spine scan but dont understand it, what does it mean when the L3-4 shallow broad based posterior annular bulge. Mild bilateral facet joint arthropathy. Very minor bilateral neural exit foraminal stenosis. L4-5 Shallow broad based posterior disc protrusion. Moderate bilateral facet joint arthropathy . No centeral canal stenosis. Moderate left and mild right nueral exit forminal stenosis. L5-S1.
