Mri scan of torn acl

Common Questions and Answers about Mri scan of torn acl

mri-scan

Avatar m tn The second injury is a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament, (ACL). The ACL is a stabilizing ligament that keeps the femur in concert with the tibia when your body twists on a planted foot. Depending on your age, activity level, and degree of instability, this is treated with surgical reconstruction, or Physical therapy and bracing.
Avatar f tn If it is successful then ok otherwise it is certain that ACL or Meniscus or both are teared (as per MRI scan) which will be treated with arthroscopy. My queries- 1) Can above injury is cured with the help of medicines and exercise. 2) Is arthroscopy is the only solution for meniscus and ACL tear. 3) How safe is hroscopy and what information we should know to make sure that we are going right way.
Avatar m tn 2-There is fluid and edema around the ACL, the radiologist says that it could be from mucoid degeneration, but my OS has a the pictures of my ACL from 3 years ago during the meniscus surgery with no sign of it then. He believes it is partially torn, does this make sense, how long does it take mucoid degeneration to develop? HIs plan is to fix the radial tear in the meniscus, and then probably recontruct the ACL with a hamstring tendon, any help is appreciated.
Avatar f tn I would suggest that you get a x-ray and MRI of the knee joint to confirm the ACL tear. I think there is a tear of the graft. Also with ACL tear surgeries it is common to have knee arthritis, so work up in this direction is also important in your case. After ACL reconstruction surgery rehabilitation is the most important part of treatment. Swimming and cycling are excellent methods of strengthening the muscles around the knee.
Avatar n tn gif In this figure, if you can see the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament), it is the most important ligaments of the joint. A tear in the ACL or a lax ACL leads to small tears in the posterior horns of the menisci. Do you have any previous knee injuries, especially the cruciate ligament tears? http://www.easyfizzy.co.il/image/users/46789/ftp/my_files/meniscal.gif This figure shows types of a tear in the meniscus.
Avatar n tn Im receiving surgery on the 23rd of this month. My doctor told me that if the ligament is not torn they are simply going to stitch the ligament and I will be fine and if not they will do a complete reconstruction surgery.
Avatar m tn Appearances consistent with chronic moderately large partial thickness tear of the proximal ACL with some signs of ACL dysfunction even though a moderate amount of fibres are still intact.
Avatar m tn I am a 30 y/o male and have right knee issues from an acl tear from an injury in 2006 with acl repair surgery in 2010. The MRI report from my visit in August 2016 is as follows: FINDINGS: Previous ACL repair with susceptibility artifact resulting from femoral anchor. The graft is torn. The PCL is intact. The fibular collateral and medial collateral ligaments are intact. There is postsurgical change of the medial meniscus with near complete resection of the posterior horn and body.
Avatar m tn Hi I recently had an MRI scan on my knee (injured tend days ago but has been weak for some time). The MRI revealed a partial tear of my patella tendon, some kind of damage to my ACL (it looked 'frayed', possibly torn but not entirely clear...certainly not in good health) and also bruising to one of the bones in my knee. The consultant recommended a knee brace that locks at 0 degrees and 90 degrees while I undergo some physio and rehab.
Avatar n tn I noticed that she was limping around and took her to the vet. He advised me that from an x-ray of the leg it looks like torn acl and to confine her for 2 months and will heal up and if not will have to perform surgery. No medication was given for the animal. And when the Vet says confined for 2 months does that mean that the animal is only on her legs to go to the washroom and then back to bed? Also she starting wetting her bed in the nightime since this occurred.
1148201 tn?1262165258 Hello and thanks for the reply I have had arthroscopic surgery and they have found that after a year and a half I still have grade 2 tears of my ACL, LCL and PCL but l have MCL in tact what would you suggest as a next course of action?
Avatar n tn Im turning 32 next week. On the 1st of March 2016 I went for an MRI scan and when the scans where done the doctor said I have a torn ACL on my right knee that I must undergo surgery on the 6th of April. Then I recently found out that am 5weeks pregnancy. My worry is will the ACL reconstruction surgery be done or will it be postponed till I give birth, and won't it be damaged futher because of pregnancy weight my right knee has to carry.
Avatar f tn So my MRI read, I tore my ACL and meniscus. Although swollen and a bit unstable I have No pain in my knee. However my achilles tendon is like a Charlie horse all the time on same leg. I fell off my bike right onto that knee. Now 2 days later I’m having shooting pains on my heel of the other foot It’s been 1 month since the fall. Is this normal? The pain in my tendon and now my other foot on the bottom of my heel.
Avatar f tn My son tore his ACL playing soccer in fall of 2017. He underwent surgery with a graft from his own hamstring. Made a good recovery, performed all PT,rehab etc... The surgeon cleared him to begin non-contact workouts. Last week (now July) in a non contact work-out he tears his meniscus in the same knee (verified with MRI). Is this just a freak accident? Or is this normal? Or did the surgeon botch the ACL surgery? I can post all the text of the radiologist reading if it is helpful...
Avatar f tn Hey girl! I'm sorry you had this injury! I am a recent graduate with a bachelor's in athletic training so I see ACL and MCL tears all the time. If your MCL is torn it will heal on its own unlike the ACL which needs surgical intervention. The only way to truly tell if an ACL is torn is by MRI and I'm not sure if a surgeon would go in without seeing any pictures at all. Plus if a MRI is gonna kill you financially, surgery will be bad too!!
Avatar m tn (If only the technology existed 3 years ago where they are using biodegradable sponges to sew the frayed ends of torn ACL ligaments back together to allow for coagulation and effectively heal the original ACL without the need for drilling screws into bones!) Nonetheless I spent another hour on the elliptical tonight as well.
Avatar m tn I went to see my family physician and he said it felt like the meniscus was torn, so he wanted me to get an MRI. When the MRI report came back it said there was fluid build-up in the acl compartment and the acl might be torn. I went to see and Orthopedic doctor and he said that he didn't see anything wrong with the MRI and when he did the clinical test he said there was a little play but he didn't really see anything wrong. He also did an x-ray which was negative.
Avatar f tn In my experience, treatment of ACL tears is dependant on three factors: age, activity level, and degree of instability. In a young, active athlete, with an unstable knee, very few orthopedic surgeons would recommend observation and/or bracing for his knee. Surgery is best performed approximately three weeks after injury, after the swelling and inflammation have resolved, and range of motion is restored. At the same time the torn lateral meniscus can be address either by repair or removal.
Avatar m tn My son, who was 14 at the time, had a similar diagnosis. The acl was completely absent -- no trace of it on MRI. It appeared to have imploded, and there were signs of mensicus injury. PCL was OK. He underwent acl reconstruct (irradiated iliotibial allograft), during which the surgeon "cleaned up" the knee. He rehabed for a year, went back to playing high school ball, and blew the new acl with 12 months.
Avatar f tn I imagine they were evaluating you for a torn ACL/PCL/meniscus? I expect there is another board with members who will be more helpful :).
Avatar m tn Five weeks ago I had a complete tear of my ACL, torn miniscus, and torn MCL. The orthopaedist thinks I'll need surgery on my ACL, and he suggested I wait until summer since I'm a school employee. The other two tears should heal on their own. I've had four physical therapy sessions, and the Physical Therapist is amazed that I have almost complete range of motion and virtually no pain. My knee does feel unstable, though. I have two questions: 1.
Avatar n tn You may experience a loud, painful pop when the ligament is first injured, followed by swelling of the knee. The pain and swelling of an ACL injury can last for several weeks. Short-term treatment can relieve the pain and inflammation, but it takes months for an ACL injury to heal completely. Initial treatment for an ACL injury aims to reduce pain and swelling in the knee, regain normal joint movement and strengthen the muscles around the knee.
Avatar f tn shows mild truncation of the body with subtie suggestion of a possible small vertical radial tear of the free margin of the body of the meniscus. lateral meniscus: shows no evidence of frank tear likely intrasubstance degerneration of the anterior horn. quadceps and patellar tendon: are unremarkable pericapsular soft tissue structure: the popliteal cyst measures approximately 4 cm in length and 2.1 x 1.0 cm axially. Impression: 1.
Avatar f tn A few months back I decided to see a orthopedic doctor to find out how my knee was holding up. Got the MRI done. Bad news was it was a complete ACL tear but the good news was that the meniscus is intact. He recommended the reconstruction surgery but didn't think it had to be done immediately. Last week when showeling the snow, I slipped on a sheet of ice and my knee "gave away".
Avatar n tn When i was hit my left leg bowed inwards and i felt a pop followed by what i describe as an explosion of pain, when i jumped up thinking i had just twisted it and the pain would go away, it didn't, i barely made it off of the field because my leg was unable to bear my weight and i was unable to straighten it out or bend it all the way. Once on the sidelines they did some tests i think the lachman's, and told me my acl was loose, but i probably just had a bone bruise.
Avatar f tn When this occurred I was told that because I was not in my teens or a professional athlete a repair was not advised. I had a scope done and they cleaned up with torn edges of the ACL. It reduced my pain level. I then had weeks of PT to build supporting structures. It took about two years before the knee would not give out on me and about 12 months before the pain was basically gone. It is my understanding that today they do reconstructive surgeries on most ppl with torn ACLs.
