Mri scan of sciatica

Common Questions and Answers about Mri scan of sciatica

mri-scan

Avatar n tn , a torn or strained gluteus, iliopsoas, and/or a lower back muscle) to become inflamed enough to mimic the symptoms of sciatica due to the inflammation of the area causing pressure on the sciatic nerve. If this is the case, how could I specifically conclude or eliminate that as the source of my pain?
Avatar n tn Actually a doctor is the only one who can order a MRI or CT scan to determine the root cause of your pain. Get a referral to neurology or neurosurgery. The pain down your legs could be caused by sciatica and if so it spawns from a disc in your low back that is impinging on the sciatic nerve. I will admit that my problem is covered up with pain meds and epidural injections because I do not wish to have surgery at this time.
1880388 tn?1320635691 There are minimally evasive back surgery techniques that can remove the part of the discs that are bulging and causing irritation through very small incisions in your back. However, given the extent of the damage as indicated by your MRI, you may need a lumbar fusion of the vertebrae to significantly reduce your pain. Only an orthepedic spine surgeon can tell you what your best surgical option is. There are also very effective pain medications out there that can help you manage your pain.
267076 tn?1270674331 Depending on the clinical findings you will need to get a MRI of lower spine, CT scan of abdomen, urine examination etc. You may also need to consult a gastroenterologist. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
Avatar f tn from my upper hip all the way down my leg but not to my foot and my knee feels tight and heavy. I thought it started with a bout of sciatica.. is this possible?
321376 tn?1209846993 ve been suffering from tummy pains and problems with going to the bathroom, had a ultascan and mri scan both fine. But what is causing this pain?!?
Avatar n tn yeah I agree, go to a rheumatologist, Also an MRI will show more detail than a CT especially with nerves and discs. Sciatica sounds like a possibility but any diagnosis would be tentative without full blood screens and a full spinal MRI.
Avatar f tn I would get an MRI and possibly a bone scan if that is negative. It doesn't exactly sound like sciatica. Usually, that is in one leg. I don't know what doctor you went to but I would go to a orthopedic surgeon (not for surgery) to find out what is going on.
Avatar f tn Usually it is treated conservatively (without surgery). If it does not respond he may then ask for a CT or an MRI scan. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Thanks for reply! I asked my doc if she thought it was sciatica, she did a few movement tests & she thinks its not a nerve problem but more related to the other problems iam having! She got me into the neurologist last week & he agreed. He did some blood tests to check for clots (apparently clots can cause papilledema also) & I have got to go back in 2 weeks & have a CT scan of chest & abdo & another MRI of the brain! Im pretty freaked out as to whats goin on!
1300526 tn?1275771621 I agree with Opus advice, a neuro can order a scan of your spine and hips, to see if your pain is coming from the spine, or sciatica, or a hip problem. I myself have pain between my shoulder blades from a car wreck that broke my back in three places, so I wound up with some wild scoliosis, and my butt hurts too. But I do not have diabetes. So also, you could have one of four kinds of type II diabetic neuropathies, specifically proximal neuropathy.
Avatar m tn I can lie on my left side as long as I have a pillow between my legs, and even then I need to move my legs every few seconds/minutes (depending on the severity of the pain). I have had CT scan of back, MRI of back, xrays of hip, knee, foot, ultrasound of groin.. all came back normal. This started when I was masturbating and felt a dull pain in my right groin.
Avatar f tn i have had pain in my lower back for 5 weeks and when i walk the pain goes down my hips and my groin and legs and painkillers do not work neither does physiotherapy doctor wont send me for x ray or scan i suffer from sciatica but this pain is so different does anyone think it could be a slipped disc
Avatar m tn So I am going to make this as short as possible. About two years I posted about having a bad case of nausea for many months. Terrible dull and aching pain on the upper left side that radiated towards the back. I had an endoscopy done and a CT scan with dye this includes the one you drink. Test came back negative on anything wrong! I figure it was probably anxiety. The pains have come and gone since then.
Avatar f tn This began in November whilst at work, stressful morning sudden left arm pain high blood pressure, I thought heart attack ECG normal, hospital thought stroke pain in leg and arm side of face fluctuating sensations memory problems. CT scan Heart scan Mri scan head normal. Off about five months simptoms seemed to improve although still weakness left side loss of feeling in parts of body.
Avatar m tn A mri is probably needed of your back otherwise you are taking the risk of permanent damage and pain. You need to find out the cause of the pain not just treat it. An adjustment may help but if the pain continues or gets worse please go to your doctor and request a mri. You could have a pinched nerve causing the pain and trust me they can get worse. Best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn To know what a lumbar MRI shows, you can google "lumbar MRI" and click on "Images." Regarding asking the doctor to focus the MRI on a particular area, you're getting into the territory of second-guessing a doctor, and that can drag all kinds of irrelevancies into the conversation, besides insulting the doctor by making it look like you think looking up something on the Internet is better than his going to school for 8 years and practicing for however long afterwards.
Avatar n tn I recently had a CT scan of my pelvis and abdomen due to unexplained swelling of my left leg and foot. Here are my results. I could really use some answers. Here are the areas of concern. Everything else was fine. **Liver appears normal in size and contour. Prominence of intrahepatic ductal system is visualized of unknown etiology. **Heterogeneous enhancing left adrenal mass measuring 1.7 x 2.7cm is identified. **A 2.8 x 3.4cm cystic lesion visualized in the left adnexa.
Avatar n tn This is pain due to nerve irritation and could be sciatica though this travels from thigh to knee, compressive neuropathy due to prolapsed intervertebral disc, nerve compression at the hip joint. It is advisable to undergo an MRI scan spine to check for any disc lesions, bony spurs, spondylolisthesis etc causing compressive radiculopathy. You might need an MRI knee or an arthroscopy of knee to look for any bony spurs etc irritating the nerves.
Avatar f tn He is in alot of pain and has been given steriods w/o much success. I thought he should get an mri to help diagnose the cause but the GP says, based on his range of motion exam, its not a degenerative disc problem and mri not necessary. He has been prescribed physical therapy, but I'm concerned this may just be dealing with sypmtoms not cause. Help! We're planning a big trip in about 3 weeks and he needs to be able to walk. Thanks!
798579 tn?1237506930 On July 5, 2012, I sustained and injury that has to be the most painful injury I've ever felt. I was sitting on the floor changing my son's diaper. When I was finished, all I did was try to get up, but was knocked to my ack when I felt this sharp stabbing and burning pain in my hip, inner and outer thigh. Since then..the pain has centralized in the outer thigh area...feeling like its burning whie I'm at rest. When I move at all, the ain in my right thigh..
Avatar m tn Depending on what they see in your MRI, and if you have any numbness, or if you complain of any neurological deficits in your limbs, which is what it sounds like to me, this would be a good test to have done. Ask for it if you are concerned. If anything else it is a good thing to rule out and you will have the satisfaction of knowing the truth. Good luck.
Avatar m tn if you have any numbness or tingling or your legs fall asleep and you have trouble waking them up go immediately and have a mri or ct scan done. You could have a more serious issue such as a nerve compression.
