Common Questions and Answers about Mri scan of lungs

mri-scan

Avatar f tn Can anyone tell me about the PET scan? I know its a machine similiar to an MRI...? My mom has to have one tomorrow. She is extremely claustrophobic--and not a small woman...not big overweight-but not small. On top of being terrified of the results (she has invasive lobular carcinoma..and dr is cking to see if its spread) ...shes really nervous about this scan. Is the machine completely enclosed? Very small? How long does a total scan take? Her Dr prescribed her valium...
Avatar m tn That seems to have checked out in you. The MRI is used to identify a variety of other abnormalities (some of which you can be born with). Depending on what type of MRI they did, it can also be a stress test. The MRI is often much better than an echo, so if it's a cardiac MRI you received, that should give them better pictures than an ECHO. It seems like they have done all the right tests.
Avatar m tn U should be alright... I had pains on both of my lungs. Shortness of breath..sometimes I will be like something will be pokin me around my body wit a knife. Went I will take a deep breath it will hurt..I never took treatment it took a long time to heal by itself..it should be an infection..i had pneumonia once and I survived..it was the nasty short pain breath..
Avatar f tn Are you sure it was not a CAT scan? I have never heard of a PET being used as the first line to a diagnosis.
Avatar n tn At that time, my bone scans and ct scans showed nodules on my lungs and a spot on my spine. The chemo took care of the lungs, but none of my doctors ordered another bone scan. But they sure ordered the PET scans (for my lungs, I smoke). The PETS have always been good. Then this past October, I had severe pain in my back (thoracic). My oncologist ordered plain old xrays and they concluded it was osteoarthritis.
Avatar f tn The doctors advised us that the results from the MRI are inconclusive. They now want to perform another CT scan, this time with contrast, of her lungs. Due to the fact that she's had an allergic reaction to the contrast in the past & they're adamant it needs to be performed, so they're putting her on 8 - 12 hours of antihistamine & medications to protect her stomach prior to performing this particular scan. It's currently scheduled for 8:00 a.m. tomorrow.
Avatar n tn I would not be concerned, however I would request what is called a "3T" MRI in lieu of the CT scan. The 3T is the latest of the MRI machines. The MRI machines come in several models. The older ones are what are called "1T', meaning one tesla unit. Or 2T. I would insist on an MRI, but you probably won't win a popularity contest. CT scans are obsolete and the only reason they are used is that a medical facility has to amortize old equipment.
Avatar m tn I had my CT Scan this morning and you guys taught me well - I snagged a copy of the scan on CD before I left. I have looked at the scan and I believe that I can see the my lesion on T3.... Is this possible.... However, the boneheads didn't use contrast and I argued with them about it. I believe that I will need to go back. The purpose was to look at a place in my lungs.
Avatar f tn I had radioactive iodine at the end of July which was followed by a nuclear scan. The nuclear scan showed uptake of the iodine in both lungs, my neck, and my pelvis bone. My next step is to have a pelvis MRI, and then external beam radiation for the bone cancer. Good luck to you.
Avatar n tn my dr pulmoligist sayes my lungs are scared 30% and i have rads is this bad iv.e had many dr.
Avatar n tn In some instances, the clinical presentation, the association with an auto-immune disease, CT scan findings and bronchoalveolar lavage findings may suggest one or another of the ILDs, but in most instances an open lung biopsy is required to establish the specific type. A tissue diagnosis can be important for both, prognosis and decisions regarding therapy.
Avatar f tn an MRI and CAT scan both showed I have 9mm nodules on the lungs and thyroid, I had a TSH test and my level was .
1643112 tn?1301654865 I was diagnosed after a CT scan for kidney stones caught the lower part of my lungs where nodules were seen along with swollen lymph nodes. A repeat showed that the lymph nodes in the mid part of my chest were very enlarged. I had been having a dry violet cough, extreme fatigue, shortness of breath, and joint pains. I was sent to a pulmonologist who measured my lung functions which were decreased and did a bronchoscopy to get a definative diagnosis.
Avatar n tn yes i have been having trouble catching a deep breath since feb 2009 i had got chemical pnemonia i am on inhalers but somedays it is really bad i have had ct scan of my lungs because my left calf hurts and swells i have had three no blood clot they have also checked my leg 4 times each and my lungs 3 times they say no clot i have also had a3 ekg negative i have not had my heart checked but no heart attack . i have breathed through the tube and they say i have minor destruction to my lungs.
Avatar n tn Results on my stomach were fine but the scan showed a lesion or scar on my lung. A CT scan of my lungs was ordered. The result showed a questionable lesion about the size of the top of your finger on one lung. Another CT scan was ordered for 6 weeks later to determine whether or not there was any growth. This scan showed no growth but the radiologist could not definitively say whether or not it was just a lesion from a previous pneumonia or a tumor(benign or malignant).
Avatar m tn This is a condition wherein there is destruction of tissue supporting the alveoli, which ultimately results in loss of elasticity of lung tissue and chronic symptoms of dyspnea (difficulty in breathing). Emphysematous lungs typically appear in CT or x-rays as hyperinflated regions. Cigarette smoking is the usual cause of the destruction in lung tissue which results in emphysema. If you smoke, now is a good time to stop, since doing so would arrest the progression of the emphysema.
Avatar f tn Recently my friend was complaining of funny headaches, and a foggy head, His consultant sent him for an MRI Brain scan, which found flashing images. The consultant is stuck on this , and doesnt know what it is. Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn Afaik it is not easy to diagnose the right ventricle (RV) from an echo. MRI has emerged as the noninvasive diagnostic tool of choice for assessing the RV. So, I guess you have to wait for those results. I understand that you are concerned. When do you get MRI results? About the echo report: The right ventricle is enlarged but its function is only mildly affected. The tip of the RV does not contribute to the RV contraction. The right ventricle pumps the low-oxygen blood to your lungs.
Avatar f tn They did a cat scan that showed cloudy lungs with the looks of a snow storm in them. They put me on an anti imflamitory and have scheduled a cat scan in 3 weeks to see if the symtoms disappear. The pain is still present all the time and I feel short of breath when I do anything. What could it be? This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/200934'>swollen lymph nodes in neck, abnormal chest ct scan</a>.
Avatar f tn We usually see this kind of CT scan in patients who may have lung malignancy and waiting for May seems too long. I suggest you facilitate your appointment so that you can be worked up further and faster, and so that whatever the outcome, it can be treated early and promptly. The liver function tests can be due to a fatty liver or with your background having all of these lung findings, it could very well be something else. I hope you get to consult with your lung doctor as soon as possible.
564735 tn?1263943526 t authorize payment for another ct scan so soon. I did leave a copy of my last ct scan ( 5 days ago) at my gyn. oncologist office. Not sure if she will use the scan from 5 days ago or insist I have another scan done at MD Anderson. Does anyone have any advice on how either to get my gyn. oncologist to accept the previous ct scan or how to get the insurance company to authorize to pay for another scan in less than 1 week? Thanks.
Avatar n tn You will need a PET scan to confirm and differentiate from pneumoconiosis since malignant cells have higher rate of glucose metabolism. Thus, the principle of PET scan is intracellular accumulation of FDG and preferential accumulation of glucose in malignant cells, leads to visualization of malignancy on PET scan. It is the diagnostic and staging tool in cancer, assesses malignant potential in a pulmonary nodule if it is solid and more than 1 cm in dia.
Avatar f tn An abdominal CT scan starts from the top of the liver on down. The lower part of the lungs will be seen but not windowed for lung review.
Avatar n tn I indeed have suffered from auras and migraine and now feel a lot less worried about the presence of plaques on the mri scan of my brain. Thank you for being very helpful.
