A four phase CT scan of the liver with and without contrast is used to look for primary liver cancer (HCC). Normally in patients with cirrhosis. With and without contrast is needed to bring out the particular characteristics of HCC during certain phases of arterial and venous blood flow. "There reasoning is for just a base line." Will that CT scan show whether or not fibrosis has got any worse?

after having the HIDA scan I was in severe pain, and the doctor informed me that the radioactive tracer did not show up in all the areas of my liver, but after the normal MRI they said the HIDA scn must have been a mistake. I have been on Xifaxan with no help at all, I am so tired of eating bland food. any advise would be helpful in this matter.

Other than cost, is there a reason I should have a CT scan instead of an MRI? I would rather not have the radiation exposure of a CT scan if an MRI will produce adequate data. Thank you!

Update: Just been today for contrast ultrasound, but they decided it's better to have an MRI scan instead of injecting contrast. possible to be an hemangioma. I'll keep you updated.

If a definite diagnosis is not reached, further tests may be done. Another option is to show the results of the CT scan to another doctor and get another opinion. Take care and best regards.

is an MRI or an ultrasound as accurate as a CT scan in determining if the spot on my liver is a hemangioma and not cancerous? 90 u/ml -HBV viral load- below 20 iu/ml - sgpt- 59 -sgot- 56 * ct scan, 128-slice MDCT of upper abdomen(contrast)- continous spiral sections of the abdomen were taken in both arterial and venous phase from the level of diaphragm to the renal hilum. report- -liver is mildly enlarged with normal attenuation. small hypodense lesion is seen in segment VI of liver measuring 12×12 mm. the lesion shows nodular peripheral enhancement with centripetal filling without rapid washout of contrast.

Following with scans is not unreasonable--they should also try MRI instead of CT scan to decrease radiation exposure.

My husband has Hep C and cirrhosis of the liver stage four. The doctors did a CTscan and have found a lesion on his liver. How serious is this. They opted not to treat him because of his platlet count. They act so vague.

From what I've read, Lindy55 is right in that most nodules are benign. A problem arises when they affect the actual function of your organ. Did you have the CT scan because of liver concerns? If so, I'm sure you doctor is just trying to pinpoint the problem.

Just thought the MRI I had would of showed more than a ultra sound, but also not sure how much of the liver can you see when it was a spinal MRI they saw them on??? Thanks I will look into that that type of scan. Is necrosis a tumor?? what is sentiment deposit as not getting far with google.

I was thinking about the radiation of the CT scan and how bad it could be for the liver long term, since the MRI has no radiation I would think it would be better.Suggestions?

I have had a few health issues & found out that I have3 spots on my liver. Recently went to ER with severe back pain, they did a CT scan suspecting kidney stones (came back negative). The CT scan showed a mass on my liver though. Dr referred me for an MRI of the liver which also confirmed the mass. A nuclear test was also done. The results are confusing and not sure if a biopsy is really necessary.

they needed to do an MRI to diagnose it as a hemangioma. There is a radiation risk with CT scan. Maybe you should ask if you could have an MRI, it is safer....
