Mri scan of kidneys

Common Questions and Answers about Mri scan of kidneys

mri-scan

Avatar m tn It makes no difference whether it is closed bore or not. The imaging principle remains the same. It is the contrast agent that enhances the images. While not all MRIs require contrast, it can be very beneficial in certain cases to show certain anatomy more clearly. It improves diagnostic accuracy, especially in cases of certain tumors, blood vessels, inflammation or infection. MRI contrast agents do not contain iodine and rarely cause allergic reactions or other problems.
Avatar n tn You should talk to your doctor about getting a higher-resolution scan such as a CT Scan or MRI on your abdominal area. Either of these tests should confirm whether or not you have a kidney stone. Also, you did not mention whether you had any blood tests done. I would go back to the ER if you're not getting anywhere with the doctor.
Avatar n tn I have stopped using metformin and I will ask the doctor to get me a MRI instead of the CT scan. I do not want to risk my kidneys. My dad used to get Dialysis 3/week he was not a diabetic he had high blood pressure for so many years and that's what demage his kidneys. Now that I stopped the metformin dizzines is a lot less and my headaches are almost gone. Thank you much!
Avatar f tn complex right renal midpole lesion likely representing a complex cyst. Follow-up MRI of the kidneys pre and post IV contrast is recommended". What does this mean? I have been experiencing pain in my right kidney the last week and I was wondering if it is the cyst (2.6 x 1.6 cm), stone or cancer. I am going to my urologist on Wednesday. Please advise. Thanks!
Avatar f tn HI i went for a ultra scan on my womb thinking i was going through the change, but they found a shadow in my right kidney, sent me for a ct scan it was inconclusive but know calling it a tumour. Is it cancer? Avatar n tn I had a CT Scan recently and found out that I have focal cortical thinning in the lateral upper pole of the right kidney can you tell me what exactly does that mean??
Avatar f tn I have a question regarding the accuracy of MRI results versus Ultrasound when it comes to kidneys. I have a bit of a situation and am wondering if I should obtain a second opinion. I experienced kidney pain at the beginning of December and went to the doctor for some antibiotics (I have a history of UTI's which go quickly to kidney infections and had been advised many years ago to take care of UTI's quickly).
Avatar n tn I am about to have an MRI done (hip) and am concerned about the use of gadolinium injection for contrast. Iin view of the possible adverse effects, should I be screened for kidney function BEFORE the injection and MRI are done? Thanks !

Avatar f tn Penny, if you go to the top of the page, on the right you will see an area that says "search MedHelp" type in CT scan, then MRI you should get the answers to your questions. With the CT scan you're having tomorrow, you lie on a table and it slides you into a machine for about a minute, and the machine takes pictures which the radiologist reads, and sends a report to your doctor. It's no big deal. The drink you're having at home, might be barium, read the bottle.
5373382 tn?1369738172 On the 5th of Oct had a brain and spine MRI with contrast they did a quick kidney test and my creatinine was high @ 1.6 Last May it was 1.17 normal. What is frightening me is the 50 eGFR. The eGFR was normal back in May. I am worried!!!
Avatar m tn Is it normal to have that much bowel gas that the abdominal aorta cannot be seen. I still have pains in my abdomen. Should I ask for a MRI or CT scan to further investigate my pain? I also had a Hida Scan of my gallbladder with the results being 90% ejection fraction rate at 30 minutes, and I am 43 years old. Thanks in advance...
Avatar m tn If you are concerned about the small dose of radiation from a CT scan ask for an MRI. It is much more expensive but can perform the same function with even higher resolution then a CT scan. MRI scan are many times used after HCC is diagnosed to assess small changes in the cancer's status. Of course make sure your health insurance will cover the MRI scan. The chances of developing HCC is you don't have cirrhosis are very low. Typically only cirrhotics are screened for HCC.
Avatar n tn When she was being tested for her ovaries They did many blood tests, urine tests and culture tests and they came back normal. They also did a CT scan of everything in the Abdomen and they said nothing about the kidney. we are all just very worried and scared.
Avatar f tn Went back 2 weeks later she said it was still inflammed but not as much. I went for an ultrasound scan on Wednesday of my kidneys. I got a call yesterday asking me to book at appt with doctor next week and was marked as non urgent although she wants me to have a LFT (liver function test) blood test. I am so worried. Could this just be protocol with kidney problems or could the scan have shown liver problems? Surely my doctor would have felt if liver was inflammed and not kidneys?
Avatar n tn The nurse told me to drink plenty of water the day before the day of the scan and the day after to flush it out of my system. I mean plenty of water!!. They done things right way. I don't really like telebrix myself and the IV contrast because of potential side effects tthat can be damaging to your system and kidneys but what can one do .If you need the scan you have to have it. It's easier for the radiologist to determine what's going on. Every doctor sees something different way.
Avatar f tn Hi there, If you have had repeat MRI over an extended period of time on a T3 machine using MS Protocol and a lumbar puncture (MRI of your thoracic, cervical and brain the chances of it being MS would be diminished. MRI is pretty good at imaging the brain, but not so good at imaging the spinal cord. Usually a good neurologist can tell from examination and what symptoms you are having if your lesions are more likely to be spinal or brain.
Avatar n tn I am going through this exact same thing right now. At my 20 week anatomy scan they told us that one of our son's kidneys is dilated. I have another scan next week.. I'll be 32 weeks. She did say that it could be nothing at all, that maybe the baby just had urine in his bladder. She also said that if it still dilated, a lot of the time after the baby is born it will work itself out.
7831604 tn?1399711007 Maybe (not sure, just throwing suggestions out there) you could have turned wrong or slept in a weird position causing the pain, but try rubbing Icy Hot or Bengay (some kind of muscle relaxer) on the sore spot and drink plenty of water. See if that helps and if not you may want to get it checked out? It could be a rib out of place? You could have bruised that area? Good luck and best wishes!
Avatar f tn They also check heart and brain, (blood flow and vessels) position of baby and of your placenta, amniotic fluid, babies kidneys...there's like 22 things.
Avatar f tn m currently debating whether or not to get a CT scan of my kidneys (similar risks to MRI)...because they saw several kidney stones on an ultrasound and they want to make sure that none of the stones are big enough to require surgery, but it is of course risky....I've opted not to take the CT scan until/if my pain gets too excruciating. all tests during pregnancy are a matter of weighing risk vs. benefit...
Avatar f tn However as you are post-menopausal, the nature of the cyst needs to be ascertained. This can be done by CA 125 levels, laparoscopy, and MRI. Presence of pain suggests infection, endometriosis etc. Removal of the cyst may sometimes be necessary if medical treatment does not help. Consult your gynaecologist. Hope this helps.
