Common Questions and Answers about Mri scan of cancer

mri-scan

Avatar n tn I have heard that most bone metastasis from breast cancer are osteolytic and might not show up well on a bone scan. Is this true? I have been having pain in my pelvis and my family doctor ordered an MRI of my lower spine which was normal, but told me that an MRI of my pelvis was overkill. The pain has has not gone away and I cannot get in to see my oncologist for another month. I feel like I have "cried wolf" so many times with aches and pains that the doctors brush me off now.
Avatar f tn I was all ready to ask my neuro if I could get a CT scan instead of an MRI when I came across a bunch of literature about people developing cancer from CT scans. Does anyone know just how significant the risks are? Thanks.
Avatar f tn It could be either one of those things. A PET scan shows areas of increased enhancement but can't really diagnose cancer. This would have to be confirmed by Pathology examination of the nodes when they are removed. Unless a biopsy of the suspected nodes was done then one couldn't be certain that they had been invaded by the cancer. Triple negative isn't the best news but it isn't unusual. Was your mother's tumor 15 yrs. ago triple negative also ?
768754 tn?1373918737 How about a full body scan? Since you have family history of cancer I would think you'd be a good candidate for that. I had a MRI yesterday because I have constant headaches. Although I think they come from the treatment medication, my GP wants to make sure. I'm all about making sure! I just hope they can do something for these headaches! I have to get a second mamagram because of calcification next week too. My breast tissue is dense also. Are we living in a parallel universe?
Avatar f tn And I agree, with the worry of having cancer (my MRI is for my back), but will have x-rays for a spot on my lungs... the anxiety gets worse. Happy and Healthy New Year....
Avatar n tn During this time, I have had countless ultrasounds (last ultrasound was performed in March of this year), 2 CT scans (last CT scan was performed in May of this year) and an MRI (although the MRI was a while back). I also have had an upper endoscopy and a colonoscopy. And, lots of bloodwork. My symptoms include: chronic bloating, twinges of pain near my right ovary, irregular bowel movements, back pain, regular fatigue. I am still very concerned about the prospect of having ovarian cancer.
1346263 tn?1276486825 The characteristic lesion demonstrated on MRI is the cerebral or spinal plaque. Pathologically, these plaques consist of a discrete region of demyelination with relative preservation of axons. Plaques suggestive of MS are typically found on MRI in the periventricular region, corpus callosum, centrum semiovale, and, to a lesser extent, deep white matter structures and basal ganglia. Labyrinthitis will present with inflammation (increased activity) in the inner ear structures.
Avatar m tn Unfortunately, as you have surmised, this is not good news at all - once prostate cancer has metastasized into the bones, it’s not curable. However, there are now a number of new drugs (as well as hormone therapy) that can kind of keep the cancer at bay for awhile. Only his Dr can tell you what his prognosis is, and if he sounds kinda vague about it, that’s cause it’s very hard to predict how a patient responds to treatment.
Avatar f tn An MRI or Cat scan just covers a certain part of your body. A Pet scan covers your whole body and I think the cancer shows up better due to the contrast they use. If there is cancer anywhere in your body it will light up. It gives me more peace of mind. There are other things that can cause your ca 125 to go up and you are still in the normal range. I hope you get good news with whichever scan you choose.
Avatar n tn Imaging studies, such as ultrasound, X-ray, and CT scan or MRI brain may also be recommended in certain individuals. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with a parafalcine meningioma after a MRI of the brain . I haven't seen the neurologist again yet - is this an abnormal meningioma rather than a benign one ?

Avatar f tn HI i went for a ultra scan on my womb thinking i was going through the change, but they found a shadow in my right kidney, sent me for a ct scan it was inconclusive but know calling it a tumour. Is it cancer? Know i have to go for a mri scan and another ultra scan,im worried as my mum had renal failure and cancer in her kidneys, plus her mum died when my mum was 4 of kidney problems, why do results take so long when you waiting and worried.I havnt lost weight, not over tired no blood in urine.
Avatar f tn Well instead of doing an MRI on my husband because of the nodule they did another cat scan. The said there is one 12mm smooth nodule on his lower right lobe so now they are going to do a PET scan, he's having that done on the 20th. I am confused. Why the PET scan do they suspect cancer?? From reading the different posts I was under the impression that they do a cat scan every 6 mos. to monitor the nodule. Is the fact that the Dr. requested a PET scan bad news?
1084115 tn?1385228589 His hepatologist decided that since his last CT scan in November showed no sign of cancer, that an ultrasound every six months would be fine.
4205995 tn?1351169508 I have been geting this burning pain on the top left side of head i can pinpoint it with one finger i have ade a ct scan with out dye a mri without dye and a cta with the dye and nothing showd up other then sinus problems This burning pain comes outta no where jast for about 30 sec then goes but i feel a lingering stinging pain after it has gone and all so when it happens my face goes hot it feels more on the brain then the scalp but my mind could be playing tricks on me once again I thort i
Avatar m tn Why did you have the ultrasound originally? The MRI might not be picking this up due to the size and I would think they would of done this with contrast. If there is a mass, it is small, but I would not ignore it.
Avatar m tn The reason I asked is that they don’t typically require follow up imaging for HCV treatment unless the patient relapses, or if late stage disease is present; in that case, ongoing monitoring for HCC (liver cancer) is often recommended. I’d go with the scan, as JD suggested; the benefits generally outweigh any risks.
Avatar m tn Other tests used for diagnosing pancreatic cancer are CT scan/MRI, ERCP and percutaneous needle biopsy. Any test result has to be correlated clinically. If you are still in doubt get your doubts clarified after consulting your doctor. Hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn My father has since had an MRI scan to check his stomach and was told that he has some cysts. Luckily the cancer has not spread, but at least the MRI scan put my fathers mood at ease. He is also taking pills, I guess for the same reason as you say, against acidity. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.
Avatar f tn I am really upset as I rather know from the blood test either it shows signs of cancer or not, that is because the MRI got a long waiting list and I am now have anxiety of not knowing until I have the MRI. Also, when I check on the internet, it said to detect for ovarian cancer, they usually do blood test or a CT scan. So can somebody tells me if the MRI is necessary or will the MRI able to tell whether my large ovarian cyst got cancer cell or not.
Avatar n tn Dear dmw13, Over the internet without being able to evaluate the scan, physical exam and question it is difficult to advise or to explain your doctors concern specifically for breast cancer. Lymph nodes can be enlarged for a number of reasons including cancer, and having this further evaluated is appropriate.
Avatar m tn Hi, a ct scan looks for any abnormalidies and cancer would show up as a darkened area so it would appear you dont have bladder cancer. But you might want to confirm this with your doctor next time you see him.
Avatar f tn Also MRI on pituary nothing showed but read rumpled post saying they can be hidden . My doc wants to see disc of MRI don't trust radiologist. Now she wants to do a PET scan full body I guess looking for cancer are my levels high enough to look for cancer? Tonite am doing a midnight saliva test two nights running to test for cortisol. Is all these tests going to show something? Meantime my fatigue is terrible I also have hashimotos and diabetes 2.
