Common Questions and Answers about Mri scan of breast

mri-scan

Avatar n tn I have heard that most bone metastasis from breast cancer are osteolytic and might not show up well on a bone scan. Is this true? I have been having pain in my pelvis and my family doctor ordered an MRI of my lower spine which was normal, but told me that an MRI of my pelvis was overkill. The pain has has not gone away and I cannot get in to see my oncologist for another month. I feel like I have "cried wolf" so many times with aches and pains that the doctors brush me off now.
768754 tn?1373918737 ) My last mammogram required a second set of x-rays as my breast tissue is dense. Since the MRI is more sensitive in detecting early breast cancer (but also known to result in more false positives), I'd think a breast MRI could be useful. I also have had cysts on my uterus and know that an elevated alpha fetoprotein could also be indicative of tumors on the reproductive organs. Would it be crazy to ask my doc if they can scan other areas of my body as well, as long as I'm there?
Avatar f tn She had a lumpectomy and radiation in her right breast 15 years ago. She now has 3.5mm mass in same breast. After PET scan the doctor found cancer in bilateral lymph nodes. Axillary lymph nodes were clear and left breast was clear also. Could these be two different types of breastcancer that were found coincidentally since there is no clear path between them? Could this be metastasis of primary tumor in right breast that has traveled to left lymph nodes?
Avatar f tn At my follow-up with my GP today, he asked if they discussed the abnormalities in my CT scan. It seems there is a lump in my left breast. My gp has ordered a mamo, ultrasound and mri. I am 50 years old and my last mamo was 13 months ago. How worried should I be?
Avatar f tn PET scans are done to discover any possible areas of metastises throughout the body. Breast MRI is a type of imagery more sensitive than Mammogram and is used to pick up abnormalities within the breast tissue .... this test is quite valuable when dense breast tissue is present. A radioactive material is injected before the PET scan .... only a contrast material is used with MRI. Regards ....
Avatar f tn The breast surgeon ordered some additional pre-operative tests -- PET scan, CAT scans and breast MRI. My insurance company would not cover the CAT scans as they said they were not medically necessary. I had the PET scan and the MRI the Friday before last (29 May). The PET scan results came back first showing no abnormalities. I was delighted. But my relief was short-lived ... The MRI results came back later the same day.
Avatar f tn In 2016 I had a mastectomy of the left breast for invasive breast cancer. Was never sent to have a pet scan or MRI after either procedure. Did not have the Braca gene and I scored low on the Onco test. Was told my chances of reoccurence was lower than the average woman. Because my chances were so low I didn’t take the femara cause it made me sick. Today I learned I have a mass in the right breast. Was told tissue had been left behind from my first mastectomy in 2008.
Avatar f tn it is sometimes used to improve the visibility of a tumor. Additional breast MRI images are then taken. The entire breast MRI session takes about 45 minutes.
Avatar n tn I recently had an MRI and the radioligist found my silicone implants had ruptured and an 8mm lymph node in breast of uncertain significance. Now my breast doctor is sending me to an oncologist and they are considering doing a PET scan, and I do not understand why because she said the MRI did not show cancer. I need help in what to ask this oncologist and should I be concerned?
Avatar n tn 2) Does breast cancer metastasize to the ischial tuberosities? I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer 5 years ago and have been cancer free since treatment.
Avatar n tn I recently had a second MRI of my left shoulder following a car accident this past August. The first MRI showed enlarged axillary lymph nodes. My doctor couldn't feel anything and all my blood work was fine so we just let it go. Well after continuing shoulder pain I just had a second MRI which still showed enlarged lymph nodes. Now my doctor is concerned that I might have breast cancer! I'm only 29years old and otherwise healthy...just a sore shoulder.
587083 tn?1327120262 Mammograms are not able to visualise the breast tissue if it is dense as is the case in females less than 40 years of age. Then an ultrasound and MRI is done. You should go ahead with the MRI if your treating physician advises you to do so. Let us know what your doctor advises and also post us if you have any doubts. Regards.
Avatar f tn Its true the tests dont hurt too much - just anxiety ridden. I think I had 7 tests in 1 week - 2 or more a day. Muga scan, bone scan, MRI, CAT scan, chest xray etc, I was glad when that week was over. It definitely feels surreal - like you are watching someone else go through it. But in a short while you will feel more empowered when the tests are over and you start chemo and kicking cancer in the butt! ITs hard to think of now - but that day will come.
1617139 tn?1298659552 I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer in my right breast, and have elected to have a double mastectomy. My Mother also had a mastectomy at my age. I have recently experienced bad pain, which knocks me to the ground (if I'm walking) in my right groin area. Could I have cancer in my groin lymph nodes? I am very scared (as everyone else is), and just want to know if this is a possibility.
Avatar n tn MRI showed torn biceps tendon and other small bursal tears and tendonitis, and a rotator cuff tear. Would a bone metastases have been revealed on the MRI of my arm and shoulder? Should I ask for a bone scan? I am 57 years old and have been cancer free since a stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis 8 years ago. I am worried that the pain does not go away.
Avatar n tn I know this is a benign condition do these areas ever change and become Malignant. I await a Specialised MRI of the breast as a follow up is this normal following this diagnosis of the above ?
Avatar n tn Anyway, had a biopsy, MRI, Bone Scan. Cancer was found in my spine, pelvis area, and imaged area of my lower extremities. I had 16 radiation treatments and am now living on oxycontin. Pain Control. That's all that can be done for me! So that's how my breast cancer mets was found. Severe back pain.
Avatar f tn Today I had a whole body bone scan as part of breast carcinoma staging. Report: There is a focus of increased tracer uptake in the distal end of the left tibia which appears to be symptomatic. I have arranged for plain x-rays but if this is not diagnostic in its clinical setting I would proceed to MRI. The whole body survey otherwise showns no evidence of metastatic disease. I then had an x-ray of the left ankle. History: Breast carcinoma.
Avatar m tn i found a lump back in november which was found to be fine, i then was told i had to have a mammogram which i still havent recieved the results, yesterday i recieved a letter from the hospital telling me that i need to book asap for a mri scan, i have found another small lump in my breast that has grown in the last month, not sure what to think now.
Avatar f tn You also need to keep in mind that when a scan, i.e. PET scan, shows mets in other parts of the body, that means that now you know something for sure. But if the scan shows nothing than that doesn't mean no microscopic mets are floating around and detectable. For that reason, my oncologist advised against all these diagnostic tests at first.
4943237 tn?1428991095 I had an appointment with my gastroenterologist last week to talk about the whole gluten ataxia/Celiac thing and quite literally came away a stunned mullet !! It would seem that they (PCP, Neuro & Gastro) are fully expecting me to get an MS diagnosis at some point in the future. There just isn't enough evidence to nail it down yet.
Avatar m tn Radiation Risk for CT scan: CT emits a powerful does of radiation, in some cases equivalent to about 200 chest x-rays, or the amount most people would be exposed to from natural sources over 7 years. That dose can alter the makeup of human tissue and create free radicals, molecules that can wreak havoc on human cells. Your body can often repair that damage--but not always. And When it doesn't, the damage can lead to cancer.
Avatar f tn t the cause of my pain. A subsequent MRI and CT scan of the cspine uncovered 3 mildly bulging discs (all leaning to the left) but those doctors say that this is mild and can't be causing my pain... yet I am in pain. My migraines are being controlled with Verapamil now because I continued to lose weight rapidly (30lbs) on topamax. My brain isn't scheduled for a scan until Dec and now the hematologist wants a CT scan of my chest and abdomen..looking for more lymph nodes.
