I would recommend you extend your stay in NZ and consult a Neurologist to get his opinion. Obtain an MRI of the brain/head WITH contrast. Was the imaging done in Singapore a regular xray or an MRI of the cervical spine? A regular xray would not be ideal in this case; an MRI of the cervical spine would be.

I had an appointment with my gastroenterologist last week to talk about the whole gluten ataxia/Celiac thing and quite literally came away a stunned mullet !! It would seem that they (PCP, Neuro & Gastro) are fully expecting me to get an MS diagnosis at some point in the future. There just isn't enough evidence to nail it down yet.

A few weeks ago she began to have pain and was finally admitted to hospital. they did a cat scan and mri and have diagnosed a tumour in colon and say that she has mets to liver and lungs! Of course this has been a huge shock especially since there were no other symptoms (although she has reported feeling very tired). They have suggested a colostomy bag and radiation.

I dont know where u are but im in nz and we dont get scan in third tri unless theres a medical reason to have one n my midwife just pushes on my pelvic area ti see if his head down.

Usually there is a ultrascan done at 12 weeks, sometimes the dr may request an earlier scan to confirm dates, then if the pregnancy is going ok, next one is at 20wks - will thats how they do it here in NZ

Just thought I would let you all know for future reference if there are any sufferers in NZ, that I saw Dr Andrew Law yesterday, and found him to be excellent in every way. He has a good understanding of Chiari, Syrinx, Spina Bifida, amongst other things and was very helpful to me. He's very experienced (I did some homework!) and a really down to earth guy who takes a patient seriously.

In New Zealand if pregnancy is going well and there are no concerns then the last scan is at 20wks. Im 29wk and wont get another scan, unless miwife has any concerns, im so hanging out to meet our little girl. Anyone else here from NZ?

Hi Mid, I live about an hour and a half south of Auckland and yes we have been having a drought, which is really unusual, especially for here in the Waikato (dairy farming country). I actually lived in Central Queensland for 10 years and I definitely don't miss the heat, but it has been a really hot and long summer here in NZ. But of course we moan when its hot and we moan when its cold, so just can't please us kiwis!! Lol.

I had a brain mri scan for recurrent 'auras' thought to be due to migraine. The result of the scan came back normal except for a few spots of plaques. I am 50, is this normal? I am concerned that it is indicative of early degeneration associated with dementia.

They can however, detect mental illness such as scitzophreneia which i know because i was diagnosed through an MRI. The only mental illness an MRI scan able detect is an actually different brain connections than that of a normal brain. Ive had one done for mental illess! Can you describe some of your symptoms, what you feel and how often yolou feel it? I know your question is based on needing to know where to get a private MRI scan, which i am unsure of!!

my wife had a mri scan on her neck the result came back as follows mri on the C- spine showd minor degenerative changes with a normal spinal cord there disc lesion at C6/C7 which corrugates the postrior longitudinal ligament by the spinal cord .

Is it necessary to have more than one MRI scan done. I have only ever had the one scan, 15 yrs ago which was when I was given my official dx, despite having several episodes/relapses since. Initially told I had RRMS now being told I have SPMS with relapses.

I have recently had an MRI scan and the report has indicated that I have a L5/S1 circumferential disc bulge whih displaces the exiting L5 nerve roots bilaterally.. On the left this effaces the perineural fate and contacts the L5 nerve root. A neurosurgeon has apparently reviewed my scan and said there is no evidence of this disc bulge without even seeing me and suggested tertherd cord syndrome should be investigated..
