987762 tn?1671273328 As a result, an MRI examination can cost several thousands of dollars, as it includes a charge for using the MRI machine to perform the scan, as well as a professional charge for a radiologist to view the images. In the end, the MRI machine is a miracle, as long as you don't have a pacemaker, metal hip replacement or metal ANYTHING replacement, and you can afford it. References information was gained from all of the following MRI-related sites. http://www.ccmr.cornell.
Avatar f tn i had it done on a 3t machine at a hospital. the cost before insurance was $10,000. thats right, $10,000. with my insurance i owe $1,828. now, i had a brain mri done at an mri place a year ago on a 1t machine and the cost before insurance was $1,400 and i paid $300. i called my insurance and they cant help...they said id need to check w the hospital on the cost. how could this be soooo much money!?????? it seems complelteyl insane. would love to hear what u all think could this be?
Avatar f tn i live in virginia beach, virginia and we have tons of vets but no-one has an mri machine to diagnose a pets problem, unless its a secret. i've lost my 2 beloved companions due to this problem.the vets make gigantic amounts of money, but instead of buying equipment that we the owners would give anything to have, they'd rather re-model their offices with expensive things that ,we don't give a hoot about.
649926 tn?1297657780 Hi Erin, I don't believe that there is anything that you could gain by being imaged with a 3T mri - you already have your diagnosis and should be on a DMD. The MRI doesn't even track the progression of your disease even though it shows the lesions - that is more the work fo the symptoms. that said, I think it is reassuring to a patient, me included, to see the recent MRI and get a look at what is happening in our brains.
745975 tn?1258960922 My Doctor order an MRI scan on my head to check for a Pituitary Adenoma, but she told me to only go in when I was having headaches. I was having headaches all weekend but I feel better today, and probably wont be able to go in for a few days since I need to make an appointment first. Will it matter if I have a headache or not when I go in? If there is an adenoma, won't it show up regardless? I'm just trying to figure out why I should wait?
Avatar f tn http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_resonance_imaging The above link tells you pretty much everything you didn't want to know about MRIs. I had a brain MRI one time, I had to be sedated because I was afraid of it, they even have a little mirror in there so you can see out of it, sort of claustrophobic in the machine, and they had a microphone and radio in there so I could talk to the techs. When the machine started up, it was VERY loud, surprised me, kind of made a bumping racket.
Avatar f tn Can anyone tell me about the PET scan? I know its a machine similiar to an MRI...? My mom has to have one tomorrow. She is extremely claustrophobic--and not a small woman...not big overweight-but not small. On top of being terrified of the results (she has invasive lobular carcinoma..and dr is cking to see if its spread) ...shes really nervous about this scan. Is the machine completely enclosed? Very small? How long does a total scan take? Her Dr prescribed her valium...
Avatar f tn I was wondering how you find out the level or strength of the mri machine? The printout from the radiologist just says it was a high-field MRI unit. I had thought at first the T1 and T2 meant something about that, but after reading the info post that Quix wrote, I found out that meant something different. I also checked on the CD's that were given to me after both my mri's and saw nothing on them either. I guess I should just call and ask.
567677 tn?1246767776 One more thought about the cost - did they give you a price for the MRI test? See if you can get that negotiated rate like they do with the big insurance companies. I'm with Anthem and it seems to me they only pay about 20-25% of the rate that is billed for my MRI's. It would be great if you could get this worked out too.
Avatar m tn The vice versa is true for MRI. MRI can produce images in any plane but CT scan cannot. CT scan uses X-ray imaging whereas MRI uses radio waves and magnets. Radiation exposure is moderate in CT scan and there is no radiation exposure in MRI. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else. Take care!
Avatar f tn s ability to lay still, be in the MRI without feeling claustrophobic, and the urgency of getting these tests completed. I have been in an MRI (3T) for 75 minutes, then moved to a different machine (7T) and was in there for almost 90 minutes without a problem. But I don't have major spasms and I am not claustrophobic (in high school I belonged to the spelunking club and loved my time in caves). Was there a reason why they wanted to do your tests like this? Have we crossed paths?
Avatar f tn How long is a mri with ms protocol usually? I had one and it was 20 minutes without contrast and 7 minutes with contrast on a 1.5 tesla is this pretty standard?
Avatar f tn Is it necessary to have more than one MRI scan done. I have only ever had the one scan, 15 yrs ago which was when I was given my official dx, despite having several episodes/relapses since. Initially told I had RRMS now being told I have SPMS with relapses.
Avatar n tn Having 2 chest x-rays in 3 weeks does not mean anything... Were you diagnosed with any specific lung cancer? X-rays are meant to scan the interior of the lungs in emergency situations, medical doctors opt to go for more powerful scanning options such as Computed Tomography (CT) scans or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans... X-rays have their own set of benefits and disadvantages so be use it wisely...
1218873 tn?1300091216 Over here in the UK, we generally don't know what the cost of tests and drugs are, as they are covered by the NHS. But over the past 12 months I have started to learn a bit of what thing cost, and it appears that even if you go private they are considerabley cheaper than in the US which to me dosen't seem quite right.
Avatar m tn Just had an MRI scan today and as I was put into the machine a red light was shining into my eyes. After about a minute the machine moved and the light vanished. Was this light laser as my eyes feel pretty sore and gritty.
Avatar n tn When having a Hida scan, Do you lay in a machine such as the one of an MRI or what?
1532707 tn?1312155924 When I was diagnosed It was on a 1.5T machine and I had a couple of non enhancing lesions. It cost a lot, because the insurance applied it to my deductible. I'm on copaxone now and The Doctor says I'm due for a MRI in September. I was thinking about finding a 3T machine (as many of you have recommended) but then the results might not be comparable if it detects more lesions because it is stronger? But at the same time I hear that the number of lesions does not correlate?
667611 tn?1226005294 Yup, that's with and without contrast. I have the worst luck adding on MRIs to my scheduled MRI. I had a cervical MRI and thought - heck, I'll be there - just scan my head again. No go. The neuro thought it was 'too early' as I'd had an MRI six months prior. However, that's just my neuro. Feel free to ask yours and see if he'll throw another one in there.
Avatar f tn Hi Tara and welcome to the forum. I don't believe we have "met" yet. My MS was diagnosed on a closed 1.5 Telsa MRI machine. However, the strength of the machine isn't the only factor. The software used to obtain the MRI cuts is just as important. I am lucky enough to have most of my MRIs taken on a 1.5t but it has the best software in the area ,including the academic centers.
Avatar f tn I get MRIs (brain, c-spine, t-spine) with gadolinium on a 3T machine at least once a year, sometimes more often if I'm having new symptoms. I am presently having some new symptoms and my neurologist would like to obtain a scan. I have had more lesions appear over time but not one in the past five years has enhanced. I wonder about the technique used at the hospital I go to, there is no time between administration of contrast and the scanning.
Avatar f tn m claustrophobic and probably going to have an MRI, not looking forward to it but still I find it a better option compared to a CT scan. By the way, each the MRI and CT scan are somewhat different in their function/purpose, so take that into consideration too. Good luck to you!
Avatar f tn my previous 2 MRIs have been done at one location. Should I stay with this location, or does the availability of a 3 Tesla MRI warrant making a location and machine change?
Avatar m tn Hello, my name is Tony in 2004 I had a workplace accident, which involved my back and I was in horrofic pain to the point where my legs were giving way and I was falling down in the street , falling down the stairs and so on, I was told it was everything from a pulled muscle to pulled ligaments, eventually I managed to get an MRI scan two years later, I was diagnosed with three prolapsed discs of which L4/L5 was causing a compression on the nerves in my back and knocking out my legs, I had a dis
195469 tn?1388322888 A week ago, I had my upteenth MRI of the brain and spine. I have been diagnosed with MS for 14 years, so I certainly have had my share of MRI's. I have had a few MRI's on the newer 3T machine so I am not a stranger to that machine. This time, something very strange happened, I would like to get your thoughts about. When the tech was scanning my spine, I noticed underneath me, great heat. It felt like my spine was on fire. I started to sweat profusely from the heat.
