Common Questions and Answers about Mri scan equipment

mri-scan

Avatar n tn Talk to your doctor about having the ICD turned off while having a CT scan. They can easily do this with the equipment they use to read your pacemaker. You can probably have the tests. I was never told not to operate lawnmowers or such. I regularly use a lawn mower and and weed eater. All I was told was to stay a distance from electrical fields, like arms length with the weed eater--like "don't put it up to your chest.
Avatar f tn Not necessarily. I had a scan at 8weeks and didn't have another one until I was 16 weeks.
Avatar m tn I can tell you that I have seen PET scans be too sensitive and over-read findings. The fact that your father had an MRI scan of the areas that 'lit up' on PET scan makes me suspect that the findings on PET scan were artifactual. I encourage you to discuss your concerns further with your father's doctors. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn The same information can be obtained from an MRI. PREFERABLY A 3t mri. The main reason for a CT is the hospital has obsolete equipment they have to amortize.
Avatar m tn Hi... I want to know how safe it is to have an MRI of the brain made if I have a Mitral Valve Replacement (St Jude)...Are there any risks, and if so, What are my options?...
Avatar m tn Tests like CT,Chest Xray,Biopsy,MRI are done on the patient. These equipment use computers which uses the software that is supportive for the machinery. For .example if You take a CT scan to search for lung cancer the software system utilizes different angles to view the lung fields in many dimensions.3D lung reconstruction uses Improved Ray Casting Algorithm which provides information for diagnosing respiratory problems.
Avatar f tn s office to shame, with an unnecessary fish-tank, and not enough medical equipment!
768754 tn?1373918737 So after agreeing to expose myself to a CT despite being concerned about the radiation, my hepatologist ordered a follow up MRI to get a better look at an area that looks like a cyst. I have a mammorgram and gyno appnts scheduled in a few weeks. I'm higher risk for breast cancer. (My mother died in her 40's of breast cancer and I have numerous relatives who have had cancer.) My last mammogram required a second set of x-rays as my breast tissue is dense.
Avatar f tn How long is a mri with ms protocol usually? I had one and it was 20 minutes without contrast and 7 minutes with contrast on a 1.5 tesla is this pretty standard?
Avatar f tn I am hoping this will help relax me after the severe panic attack I had Tuesday after trying to have an MRI done. After my MRI experience, I am so nervous for tomorrow...I feel like my body is in a constant state of anxiety over this. Will the Xanax help me to settle down so I can get through this test?
Avatar m tn You can also let his doctor know, but he/she most likely will not have the equipment needed to see if your father had a stroke or not (be able to do the testing like an MRI or CT scan). Let us know how he does.
Avatar f tn The lesions it describes are in the noncerebellar parts of the brain. It looks like that the first time, you had a brain and C-spine scan or that the brain scan caught the C-spine, too, but the second report references only brain structures, so it may be that the C-spine was not scanned the second time or that the radiologist simply didn't see anything there to comment on; however, usually, they'll remark that they didn't see anything just to make it clear that they looked.
Avatar n tn I would not be concerned, however I would request what is called a "3T" MRI in lieu of the CT scan. The 3T is the latest of the MRI machines. The MRI machines come in several models. The older ones are what are called "1T', meaning one tesla unit. Or 2T. I would insist on an MRI, but you probably won't win a popularity contest. CT scans are obsolete and the only reason they are used is that a medical facility has to amortize old equipment.
Avatar n tn Equipment is a huge variable, older equipment can't identify early gestational growth as easily. Especially without vaginal probe, but sometimes even then. Bladder has to be perfectly full, and there's still a chance the scan may not see baby yet.
Avatar m tn Radiation Risk for CT scan: CT emits a powerful does of radiation, in some cases equivalent to about 200 chest x-rays, or the amount most people would be exposed to from natural sources over 7 years. That dose can alter the makeup of human tissue and create free radicals, molecules that can wreak havoc on human cells. Your body can often repair that damage--but not always. And When it doesn't, the damage can lead to cancer.
Avatar n tn Having 2 chest x-rays in 3 weeks does not mean anything... Were you diagnosed with any specific lung cancer? X-rays are meant to scan the interior of the lungs in emergency situations, medical doctors opt to go for more powerful scanning options such as Computed Tomography (CT) scans or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans... X-rays have their own set of benefits and disadvantages so be use it wisely...
Avatar n tn I would definitely ask for an ultrasound, blood enzyme test, then MRI if these two tests are inconclusive, a hyda scan and last would be a CT scan. Good Luck I was in your shoes once.
Avatar n tn We had our anatomy scan last week. Didn't go well. After being told at every appointment she looked healthy. Now out of no where they think she has trisomy 18 (idk what that is the didn't tell us) or 19 (I think that's a right number) or 21 which is Downs(only one they explained what it meant). When we got there the equipment was acting up,my daughter was breech and in what they say the worst position to do the tests.
Avatar n tn I had a brain mri scan for recurrent 'auras' thought to be due to migraine. The result of the scan came back normal except for a few spots of plaques. I am 50, is this normal? I am concerned that it is indicative of early degeneration associated with dementia.
Avatar n tn They can however, detect mental illness such as scitzophreneia which i know because i was diagnosed through an MRI. The only mental illness an MRI scan able detect is an actually different brain connections than that of a normal brain. Ive had one done for mental illess! Can you describe some of your symptoms, what you feel and how often yolou feel it? I know your question is based on needing to know where to get a private MRI scan, which i am unsure of!!
Avatar n tn my wife had a mri scan on her neck the result came back as follows mri on the C- spine showd minor degenerative changes with a normal spinal cord there disc lesion at C6/C7 which corrugates the postrior longitudinal ligament by the spinal cord .
Avatar f tn Is it necessary to have more than one MRI scan done. I have only ever had the one scan, 15 yrs ago which was when I was given my official dx, despite having several episodes/relapses since. Initially told I had RRMS now being told I have SPMS with relapses.
763362 tn?1236624790 I have been referred to Physio and had an initial assesment where the consultant said that it looks like Degenerative Disc Disease, he said the only way to determine this better is by having an MRI scan, on going back to my G.P.
