Mri scan breast cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Mri scan breast cancer

Avatar n tn I have heard that most bone metastasis from breast cancer are osteolytic and might not show up well on a bone scan. Is this true? I have been having pain in my pelvis and my family doctor ordered an MRI of my lower spine which was normal, but told me that an MRI of my pelvis was overkill. The pain has has not gone away and I cannot get in to see my oncologist for another month. I feel like I have "cried wolf" so many times with aches and pains that the doctors brush me off now.
Avatar n tn Dear dmw13, Over the internet without being able to evaluate the scan, physical exam and question it is difficult to advise or to explain your doctors concern specifically for breast cancer. Lymph nodes can be enlarged for a number of reasons including cancer, and having this further evaluated is appropriate.
Avatar f tn Its true the tests dont hurt too much - just anxiety ridden. I think I had 7 tests in 1 week - 2 or more a day. Muga scan, bone scan, MRI, CAT scan, chest xray etc, I was glad when that week was over. It definitely feels surreal - like you are watching someone else go through it. But in a short while you will feel more empowered when the tests are over and you start chemo and kicking cancer in the butt! ITs hard to think of now - but that day will come.
768754 tn?1373918737 Hi: So after agreeing to expose myself to a CT despite being concerned about the radiation, my hepatologist ordered a follow up MRI to get a better look at an area that looks like a cyst. I have a mammorgram and gyno appnts scheduled in a few weeks. I'm higher risk for breast cancer. (My mother died in her 40's of breast cancer and I have numerous relatives who have had cancer.) My last mammogram required a second set of x-rays as my breast tissue is dense.
Avatar f tn In 2016 I had a mastectomy of the left breast for invasive breast cancer. Was never sent to have a pet scan or MRI after either procedure. Did not have the Braca gene and I scored low on the Onco test. Was told my chances of reoccurence was lower than the average woman. Because my chances were so low I didn’t take the femara cause it made me sick. Today I learned I have a mass in the right breast. Was told tissue had been left behind from my first mastectomy in 2008.
Avatar f tn Today I had a whole body bone scan as part of breast carcinoma staging. Report: There is a focus of increased tracer uptake in the distal end of the left tibia which appears to be symptomatic. I have arranged for plain x-rays but if this is not diagnostic in its clinical setting I would proceed to MRI. The whole body survey otherwise showns no evidence of metastatic disease. I then had an x-ray of the left ankle. History: Breast carcinoma.
Avatar f tn She had a lumpectomy and radiation in her right breast 15 years ago. She now has 3.5mm mass in same breast. After PET scan the doctor found cancer in bilateral lymph nodes. Axillary lymph nodes were clear and left breast was clear also. Could these be two different types of breastcancer that were found coincidentally since there is no clear path between them? Could this be metastasis of primary tumor in right breast that has traveled to left lymph nodes?
Avatar n tn 2) Does breast cancer metastasize to the ischial tuberosities? I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer 5 years ago and have been cancer free since treatment.
Avatar n tn Had breast cancer 15 years ago and I am wondering how breast cancer mets are found? This discussion is related to Breast Cancer to Bone Mets to Liver Mets to Brain Mets.
1617139 tn?1298659552 I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer in my right breast, and have elected to have a double mastectomy. My Mother also had a mastectomy at my age. I have recently experienced bad pain, which knocks me to the ground (if I'm walking) in my right groin area. Could I have cancer in my groin lymph nodes? I am very scared (as everyone else is), and just want to know if this is a possibility.
Avatar n tn What is the method to look for a bone metastases from breast cancer? I have had awful pain in my right arm/shoulder for 4 months. MRI showed torn biceps tendon and other small bursal tears and tendonitis, and a rotator cuff tear. Would a bone metastases have been revealed on the MRI of my arm and shoulder? Should I ask for a bone scan? I am 57 years old and have been cancer free since a stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis 8 years ago. I am worried that the pain does not go away.
Avatar n tn I know this is a benign condition do these areas ever change and become Malignant. I await a Specialised MRI of the breast as a follow up is this normal following this diagnosis of the above ?
1052221 tn?1253876315 I had stage 3 breast cancer as well and I get twice yearly breast exams by my gyne, every 3 months by my oncologist, a once a year MRI and once a year PET scan. I really recommend the PET scan.
Avatar m tn i found a lump back in november which was found to be fine, i then was told i had to have a mammogram which i still havent recieved the results, yesterday i recieved a letter from the hospital telling me that i need to book asap for a mri scan, i have found another small lump in my breast that has grown in the last month, not sure what to think now.
Avatar f tn At my follow-up with my GP today, he asked if they discussed the abnormalities in my CT scan. It seems there is a lump in my left breast. My gp has ordered a mamo, ultrasound and mri. I am 50 years old and my last mamo was 13 months ago. How worried should I be?
Avatar n tn If the areas of concern are pain and the results showed uptake in the spine area I would be thinking something related to bone rather than breast cancer. Bone Scan will pick up "everything" .... mine showed uptake in the jaw where I had an abscessed tooth several years before. With neg. Mammo and Ultrasound it's highly unlikely that there is a breast issue here. Keep in mind that everything I have said is based on the fact that there was no previous diagnosis of breast cancer !!!
Avatar f tn My doctor has requested a breast MRI for me due to my family history of breast cancer. My grandmother had it and my sister was 36 when she died from it. I do not have breast cancer. My question is, can someone give me a detailed description of a breast MRI? I have had other MRIs and only go to the open MRI due to anxiety. But the breast MRI will be in a regular machine. I am stressed about it, Anyway, I am wondering how far into the machine you go.
Avatar f tn m not quite certain why in addition to having US and possibly a Mammogram (not reliable in younger women) or possibly Breast MRI you have been having Total MRI Scans. I would think you might have been tested for the BC Gene unless you know that your Mother was positive for this; then you would most likely be positive as well.
Avatar n tn Now my breast doctor is sending me to an oncologist and they are considering doing a PET scan, and I do not understand why because she said the MRI did not show cancer. I need help in what to ask this oncologist and should I be concerned?
Avatar f tn There is a new study that just came out last year that involved breast MRI. It showed that the MRI can demonstrate a hidden cancer in the other seemingly normal breast about 10% of the time, concurrently with the present tumor on the affected breast. I suggest you discuss this option first with your surgeon before proceeding with removing the other breast. A not so good margin on the lumpectomy may be treated with re-excision of a larger tissue to obtain negative margins.
Avatar f tn Well the breast specialists that I see specifically treat breast cancer/disease and they are also breast surgeons. I think the oncologists like to stay within their specialties as much as possible. And since they're already following me, I don't think my oncologist felt like it was her place to step in. The PA was saying about the biopsy that 1) she may miss the nodule during the biopsy and get the good tissue, instead.
587083 tn?1327120262 I was interested in your question, because I was thinking the exact thing. Supposedly my tumor is 1.5 cm according to the ultrasound. I am 54 yrs. of age and do not have dense or lumpy breasts. I just read an article in the Quad City Times Health section that said that women who have MRIs have more mastectomies. I am also reading the book by Dr. Love called the "Breast Cancer Bible".
Avatar n tn My wife has been in hospital 6 weeks today with some sort of secondary cancer caused by her previous breast cancer the doctors say. She has been unable to stand on her own so is confined to a hospital bed, her sight is completely blurd and her speech is differcult to understand,herco-ordernation has gone for the simplest things like just touching her nose. She has not had a stroke and no scan so far has shown any cancer. She is waiting on a PET SCan which might show something but maybe not.
Avatar n tn The pain you are experiencing could be unrelated to cancer, but to find out for sure, your doctor should order more tests, like CT scan, MRI,or a PET scan. I am sure your doctor will recommend which test you should be having and treat your osteoporosis with medication if the diagnosis is negative for metastasis. Hoping that no cancer will be found..and wishing you all the best!
Avatar m tn Radiation Risk for CT scan: CT emits a powerful does of radiation, in some cases equivalent to about 200 chest x-rays, or the amount most people would be exposed to from natural sources over 7 years. That dose can alter the makeup of human tissue and create free radicals, molecules that can wreak havoc on human cells. Your body can often repair that damage--but not always. And When it doesn't, the damage can lead to cancer.
