382218 tn?1341181487 1.0 Tesla or higher recommended for brain or spinal cord. (Note: 1T open ring magnets have an effective field strength of approximately 0.7 Tesla and are only recommended when patients can not tolerate the closed magnet). Slice Thickness: < 3mm and no gap and in plane resolution of < 1mm x 1 mm for both Brain and spinal cord. (Note: < 5mm and no gap is acceptable for Brain MRI for centers that are unable to acquire 3mm slices in the allotted time).
Avatar f tn I knew something was wrong considering the fact that the Neuro only did a brain and cervical MRI....no spinal mri. My cervical cord already showed a small syrinx and I had lesions in the brain. He definately dropped the ball with this and I felt like he brushed me off. Neurosurgions are hard to get an appointment with, but maybe it won't be too long.
Avatar n tn my wife had a mri scan on her neck the result came back as follows mri on the C- spine showd minor degenerative changes with a normal spinal cord there disc lesion at C6/C7 which corrugates the postrior longitudinal ligament by the spinal cord .
Avatar n tn I have heard though that an MRI of the skull is needed because the shows if the brain goes into the spinal cord. Is this true? Is an MRI of the brain good enough, or do I need an MRI of the skull? also, would an MRI of the cervical spine show if the brain goes into the cerbellum?
Avatar f tn My neurosurgeon sent me for an MRI with contrast of spine and said they saw a spot on my brain stem and sent me for another MRI of the brain (have not heard the results). I had a brain and spine scan without contrast 4 years ago when the symptoms began after the birth of my child and there was nothing found. I pushed to see doctor after doctor because I didn't feel my walking should be deteriorating. I heard everything from arthritis in my hips to "you are just getting old".
Avatar f tn Syrinx can form in the spinal cord due to spinal cord injury, blockade of CSF, spinal cord necrosis, hemorrhage, spinal cord abscess and degenerative disease of the spinal cord. With age there occur degenerative changes in the spinal cord which can result in disc protrusion and later on formation of syrinx due to cavity formation. http://www.emedicine.com/NEURO/topic359.htm Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn If you are having Occipital Neuritis and Arm Symptoms, you need to scan the brain and C-Spine. If the symptoms are in the lower limbs, you need to scan the brain, C-spine and T-spine. Your doctor may also decide to scan the L-spine, not looking for lesions, but looking to see if lower limb symptoms could be the result of compression of the Cauda Equina, the horse tail nerves that go to the lower extremities.
Avatar f tn Hi and welcome, Your question has come up in the MS community and with MS the lesions develop in the brain and 'within' the spinal cord...from what i understand, your spinal MRI has come up with an abnormal spot at the cervical spine level (C4) but it is 'out side' the spinal cord, so IF it is something of significance and not just an MRI signal glitch (think camera flash) i'm out of my lay persons scope of understanding of what conditions it could be associated with....
Avatar f tn Hi, do you know if your MRI was on a 1.5T or 3T MRI? Were you having symptoms, and that's why you had a spinal MRI? I have lesions in my c-spine and my t-spine, too. I'd guess that you might be having leg symptoms and lower extremity symptoms?
763362 tn?1236624790 P. and telling him this, he said he cannot authorise an MRI scan or refer me to a back specialist, all i have is a bit of backache and i am on the mend, I visited the dentist yesterday for a filling and once the dentist had finished, i couldn't get out of the chair, i have 3 children, an 11 year old, a 2 year old and a 6 month old, i cannot pick up the two youngest as it is too painful.
Avatar m tn Hi I had my MRI yesterdayof brain and spinal cord, and difffusion weighted too, it only took 20 mins, do you think the lady did my spinal cord seemed a bit quick.
Avatar n tn I would also ensure that the damage is only restricted to the cervical area of c-6/7 and not elsewhere as well. Just remember, Xray, CT scan, and MRI are all different, and definitely remember you don't deserve to live in pain, so persistance with prpoer diagnosis and treatment is important!
3079363 tn?1363273715 A watery, protective substance known as cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) normally flows around the spinal cord and brain, transporting nutrients and waste products. It also acts as a cushion to protect the brain and spinal cord. In early development, CSF also fills a small canal that runs through the center of the spinal cord—the central canal—which then collapses normally over time.
Avatar m tn A lay person with nurse's training in the long distant past taking a stab at it: Thoracic vertebraes number and 1 and 2 have moderate degeneration going on- guessing arthritis there. At Lumbars 1-3- I'm guessing age may be drying up the fluid in between the vertebrae as it does in knees and other joints. You've got a bulging disc that is being squished between the second and third lumbar vertabraes, but it does not appear to be pressing on your spinal cord.
Avatar n tn My daughter had an MRI of her brain on Monday and although the films are limited by movement, she is wondering about a compressed area at the brain and spinal cord connection. It may be artifact, but given the doctors concerns about her weakness, she felt we should arrange a CT scan to relook at area until MRI with sedation can be completed. I've search the net but can't find anything describing what this connection area is called and what are the implications of this compression.
Avatar f tn s Quix experienced the above situation herself before she was dx with MS, to cut a long story very short, the lower strength MRI showed zero spinal cord lesions but when the spinal cord scans were run on a stronger MRI it actually showed she had 6 spinal cord lesions.
Avatar m tn Hello, I’m a little confused and lost and my Doctors a little unsure what’s going on and is sending me for a MRI Scan on my Spinal cord and Brain. My situation is this; 7 months ago I was having a hard time sleeping and had some leg cramps that were keeping me up at night, so my doctor had me take a blood test which found that I’m type # 2 diabetes. I then took the medication proscribe to help get my Sugar under control.
338416 tn?1420045702 It's interesting... I've looked at these scans so many times, that you'd think I would have given up by now. But I think I'm seeing some stuff I didn't notice before, or wasn't sure of. http://www.medhelp.org/user_photos/show/49447?personal_page_id=2546 The image on the left is of my t-spine with contrast. The right is a myelo - don't know what that is. Take a look. Am i crazy?
Avatar n tn They can scan your spine and see what might be pushing on the spinal cord. Generally this is a spinal cord problem, altho rarely something can happen in the brain to do this. This is a patient-to-patient forum, so unless a doc happens in, then those of us who identify with your problem will try to steer you in the right direction.
Avatar f tn The cervical spinal nerves arise from the spinal cord and form a brachial plexus supplying the upper limbs so the spinal problems should be ruled out. 2nd you should rule out any nervous system disorders and problems in the brain and this may be a migraine also. A Neurologist appointment and after that further probing and testing is required for proper diagnosis. Take care!
Avatar f tn And you have two or more abnormalities on neuro exam that point to different areas of damage in the brain and spinal cord, then the MRI is looked at for consistent lesions. One lesion will increase your chances of having MS by quite a bit. Two or more lesions will take your chances to greater than 90%. Sorry for all the yelling, but I am angry at this dufus of a radiologist.
