Avatar n tn On July 8, 2008 the Food and Drug Administration slapped a black box warning on Cipro and other, similar antibiotics due to an increased risk of tendonitis and tendon rupture. Recent adverse reports include ruptures to the shoulder, hand, bicep or thumb tendons." "Fluoroquinolones carry a Black Box Warning To/For Doctors." http://www.lawyersandsettlements.com/features/cipro/cipro-side-effects-antibiotic-drug.html#.U0Ar5HQ8lCx From The FDA: http://www.fda.
Avatar n tn There is a proximal biceps tendon at the shoulder joint, and a distal biceps tendon at the elbow. When the biceps tendon ruptures, this tendon is detached. Following a biceps tendon rupture, the muscle cannot pull on the bone, and certain movements may be weakened and painful. There are two types of biceps tendon ruptures: Proximal type is the most common type of biceps tendon injury. It is most common in patients over 60 years of age, and often causes minimal symptoms.
Avatar n tn At this moment, we are two on this site, we both had complete Achilles tendon rupture, just one day apart. We both had late surgery (5 days after the accident).
Avatar m tn Was Levaquin knowing as a cause of Achilles tendon rupture before September/2006?
Avatar n tn There is rupture of the capsule medially with high signal fluid surrounding the subscapularis tendon. Under flouroscopy, the capsular leak was seen very early in the examination...." However, it goes on to state that there is no evidence of rotator cuff tear and the glenoid labrum is intact. I am just wondering if this finding means surgery is a necessity at this point. I wont see DR for a few more weeks. Thanks again.
Avatar f tn hi everyone this is my first time here the problem i have is my husband had a complete rupture of his right achilles tendon in march 2009 he decided to heal the conservative way by Sept he was in so much pain and no one would listen to him we looked for a second opinion and April 2010 he had his first op the surgeon removed the outer sheath of the tendon and shortened it by October 2010 it had degenerated and had to have another op where the surgeon took the tendon away and replaced it with his
Avatar m tn There could be degenerative changes in the patellofemoral ligament or a repeat rupture of quadriceps tendon or malalignment of the tendon. Arthroscopic surgery gives a complete view of the joint and depending upon the cause treatment can be taken up. Best.
Avatar m tn Hi! I've just had my tendon repaired after suffering a full rupture whilst playing rugby! How long is the recovery period will I be able to run again or will I ever be able to play contact sports again?
Avatar f tn We were very lucky as the rupture of the tendon occurred at the proximal end but left some tendon still attached so the repair was done attaching the two ends of the tendon. So far, so good. By February, his basketball game should be as good as ever! One other question, because Caleb is 6'1" and about 161 lbs. with long legs, is there any concern about his left leg having the same problem? He is a sports-aholic--he'd rather be playing some kind of ball than eating or sleeping.
Avatar n tn Mild tears may recover in a week while a complete rupture of a tendon can take months to fully heal. A fully ruptured tendon may require surgery to make full recovery.
Avatar m tn You are over reacting. Why continue to exercise the arm, which will only exacerbate problems and risk a repetitive stress syndrome, if you believe the tendon is injured? Pulling tendon away from bone requires a great deal of force, and is very traumatic, usually accompanied with a loud snap followed by sharp pain and much swelling and bruising. You report none of these symptoms.
Avatar f tn In those with certain diseases such as gout and hyperparathyroidism; tendon rupture may result. Other general causes are direct trauma and decrease of blood supply. You should be careful and should avoid any injuries, avoid direct stress to your quadriceps tendon and also should avoid steroid injections. Avoid simultaneous quadriceps contraction and also stretching of the muscle. Take care!
Avatar m tn There are a couple other antibiotics that can be prescribed if NGU is persistent, Erythromycine or Moxifloxacin. However, I would only use Moxifloxacin as a last resort, as it can have some very harsh and lasting side effects. In addition, if it's fungal related (Trich) they can also treat you with an alternative regimen of metronizadole. Return to your doctor and discuss persistent NGU with him and CDC guidelines for testing and treating: http://www.cdc.
Avatar m tn Levaquin is associated with an increased risk of tendon rupture or swelling of the tendon (tendinitis) in all ages. This risk is higher if you are over 60 years of age, are taking steroids (corticosteroid drugs), or if you have kidney, heart, or lung transplants" ..... "Tendon rupture can happen while you are taking Levaquin or up to several months after you have finished taking it.." and .... "Damage to nerves in the arms, legs and hands can happen.
Avatar m tn That is an excellent question, since both antibiotics are fluoroquinalones, the same class of drugs. It is not a good idea to take a "lot of these drugs". Tendon rupture and horrible aches and pains for months can result. People have different genetic tolerances. I can tolerate Cipro, for example, however Levofloxacin caused me terrible problems for almost eight months. Getting back to your question the answer is "probably", but not absolutely positively. .
Avatar n tn I recently had surgery to repair a complete rupture of my Gluteus Medius Hip Tendon. Three holes were drilled in my hip bone and the tendon was located and sutured into these holes. A pig skin graft was used to help secure the sutures. Also I had a Bursectomy and a bone spur removed. I would like to hear comments from anyone else who has gone through this. How long post surgery to be pain free? How is walking and climbing stairs?
Avatar m tn can a patellar tendon rupture be diagnosed by just looking at the leg or should there be more tests done to confirm this to be the problem?, and also my mother has not complained of any pain at all, She just describes it as a weakness in the leg and a feeling that she will fall, and in fact has fallen. When someone describes a ruptured patellar tendon it always seems to accompany a great deal of pain.
Avatar n tn An MRI revealed a gluteus medius tendon rupture. My orthopedist drilled 3 holes in my hip bone and then sutured the tendon back on to the bone. He also did a Bursectomy and removed a bone spur and used Blood Platelet Therapy while he was in there. I also had thought a lot of the pain was Fibromyalgia but now I realize that it was this hip injury. The way I understand this is that it is the fluid that is toxic and can completely destroy your tendon.
Avatar m tn There is no apparent rupture of tendon and ligaments or bony growths or fractures visible on the CT and MRI. Pain on the outer side of ankle felt especially when you put weight on it is usually due to sinus tarsi syndrome (pain just front of lateral malleolus on the outer side of ankle). There is no swelling accompanying the pain.
Avatar f tn Yesterday I was chasing after my two-year old, and as I went to run, I heard a distinctive ripping sound and felt a very disconcerting sensation in my right calf. I'm unable to put my heel flat on the floor unless my knee is bent, and of course then I can't straighten my leg. My calf hurts to touch on the meaty, inside/back part, although when I'm sitting, it doesn't hurt at all really (twinges a bit).
Avatar m tn Your right, I do find it hard to strengthen my surgery knee in which was diagnosed with PFS. Its been 3 months since I ve been doing PT, but the weakness are still there and casual walking sometimes gives way on my surgery knee. Any suggestion, or is patient the key thing here and I am 26 with an athletic build. Can you suggest exercises I should be focusing on.
20881263 tn?1561816684 I had my left quad tendon rupture and am now four months post op. I still have some knee buckle even after three months of therapy. Will this eventually go away? If not, is there a brace that can alleviate the buckling?
Avatar n tn Hello, Although x-rays have ruled out any fracture of the area but it can be due to soft tissue injury like muscle fibers rupture, ligament injury, tendon rupture or tendonitis.I would suggest you to apply warm compresses and take some anti inflammatory analgesic like Ibuprofen or Diclofenac and get a MRI of the area done after consulting an orthopedician. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.Warm regards.
